Twitter Updates Android and iOS Apps• Twitter has made improvements to their apps,

primarily to the photo uploading and account switching processes.

• Users uploading photos now see their photo in actual size.

• Images from the camera roll appear below the compose window, so users can quickly choose images.

• Avatars and usernames also appear in the compose window, allowing users to switch accounts simply by touching the avatar.

• To enhance privacy, users can now remove their location from a tweet when composing.

• Additional update for Android: updated notification system

Twitter Revamps TweetDeck• This is TweetDeck’s most significant visual and

interface update in years. • Big Changes:

– The deck is now white, similar to competitors– The menu moved to a narrow/expandable

bar on the left-hand side– Icons are used to identify columns and

additional options, with [icon] growth dependent on tracked accounts and added columns

• Adding new columns is easier than ever, with a “+” button in the menu bar– Columns created using 9 different tweet

facets, including mentions, lists and activity.

New look for Threaded Conversations on Twitter

• Twitter is testing a new look for site conversation, making message and reply threads more visible to users in the conversation timeline

• Content will appear directly in-stream, without having to click on the tweet that is in conversation

• There has been no official response from Twitter regarding the change and it appears they are rolling it out slowly

Turn Facebook Profile Pictures and Logos into Emoticons

• Facebook came out with a new trick on Facebook Chat that allows users to turn profile pictures and brand logos into tiny emoticons.

• This new trick is only properly viewable via computer, not mobile.

• Making mentions:– Go to the Facebook page of the person or

brand you want to mention– Copy the personalized portion of the URL– Paste the personalized portion of the URL in a

chat, surrounded by double brackets (ex. [[HERSHEYS]]

– Emoticon will appear after pressing enter

Facebook Get’s Hashtag Support, Not Open to Adverting…Yet

• Facebook introduced hashtags to their site to aid users in surfacing conversation

• Slowly roll out to users over time, not open to advertising (at least not at this time)

• Facebook wants to make it easier for users to find content that already exists on the site– Hashtags will be clickable and searchable

• Hashtags from other services, including Instagram, will be searchable

• Searchable within users’ networks, not public like Twitter• Ability to compose hashtags directly from a hashtag feed• Adding hashtags to Facebook will allow adding real-time

content to specific search streams much easier than ever before

• Might ultimately increase Facebook’s Graph Search – provide a clearer expression of interest as opposed to “likes.

Twitter Opens Up Analytics Tools to Public• Twitter recently released various analytics

tools for public use, giving users access to more in-depth data– Brand and People who follow them– Performance of tweets

• Users log in to Twitter Ads using the Twitter handle and password to access the features• Option to view analytics for your timeline

activity at the top of the page• Dashboard displays a personal graph per user,

depending on number of mentions, follows and unfollows in the past month– Recent tweets, favored tweets, retweets,

replies• Users can review data on followers including

their interests, gender and location.

Facebook Unveils Video for Instagram• Facebook unveiled Video for Instagram, bringing 13

brand new filters to the app that are designed for videos ONLY– Available immediately for iOS and Android

• The application will look exactly like Instagram does now, but with both a camera and a video icon

• Videos can last anywhere from 1 second to 15 seconds maximum

• Users can record, edit and delete frames• Users can choose which frame they want to use as

the cover photo of their video (for the Instagram feed)

• The video does not loop, it only plays once, similar to YouTube

• Instagram will be using a video stabilization technology called ‘Cinema’ to enhance videos
