Welcome to the Kingdom of Makkaräna !Welcome to the Kingdom of Makkaräna !Welcome to the Kingdom of Makkaräna !Welcome to the Kingdom of Makkaräna !

Makkaräna

The Kingdom of Makkaräna is a country in South-East Central Europe, North of the Balkan Peninsula, on the Lower Danube, within and outside the Carpathian arch, bordering on the Black Sea [1]. It shares a border with Hungary and Serbia to the west, Ukraine and the Republic of Moldova to the northeast, Romania and Bulgaria to the south. It is a recent member of the European Union and hosts its holiday dacha, as well as those of other major international organizations, including NATO [2].

Makkaräna covers an area of 130,528 square kilometers (11,787 square miles) and has a population of about 21.7 million.

Throughout history, Makkaräna has been a favorite destination of emperors and war-lords, who typically brought huge crowds with them. Examples include Alexander the Great, Djengiz Khan and more recently Michael Jackson. Currently, Makkaräna is a happy feudal kingdom, led by King Jaroslaw XIII.

Makkaräna has the 11th largest territory and the 17th largest population among the European Union member states. Its capital and largest city is Makkaroon. The currency is the Makkaräna Marbel (MM), pegged 1-to-1 to the Euro since 2006.

King Jaroslaw XIII has a wife, Queen Ezmiralda, and one daughter, Prinzess Sylviya.

Prinzess Sylviya, CTO TeleMakkaräna:• “After introducing the Juniper MPLS

backbone and metro, we were able to shave 20% off our network OPEX budget, and reduce outages to almost zero.”

In a recent survey, 82% of customers running Juniper Networks JUNOS as well as other router operating systems, considered JUNOS more efficient than other operating

systems in one or more categories** Lake Partners, How Operating Systems Create Network Efficiency, 2007.

What’s next on TeleMakkaräna’s agenda?What’s next on TeleMakkaräna’s agenda?What’s next on TeleMakkaräna’s agenda?What’s next on TeleMakkaräna’s agenda?

Develop Roadmap to Fixed-Mobile Convergence• Step 0: bundling• Step 1: the Home Zone• Step 2: UMA• Step 3: Femtocells• Step 4: IMS

Is the network able to cope with all this?• eg. how can we guarantee voice quality across the network

Is the OSS/BSS able to cope with all this?• lots of customer databases• eg. AAA: user denied on DSL, still gets access on WiFi hotspot

Let’s consult our vendor partners…

Why MPLS in the RAN?Why MPLS in the RAN?Why MPLS in the RAN?Why MPLS in the RAN?

MPLS is flexible• Technically: backhaul 2G, 3G, LTE, WiMAX, etc. on one network

• with mix IPv4 and IPv6 traffic• and support multiple connectivity models

• Operationally: support different deployment scenarios• topologies, single domain, multi-domain, wholesale, …

• Future-proof : open to new connectivity models, new applications• as proven in wireline networks

MPLS is powerful• QoS guarantees where required, bandwidth efficiency where not• resilience: fast reroute, multihoming• multipoint, eg for video multicast or clock distribution
