• A foot switch is a control unit which is operated on machines or

systems where tasks using the hands are not possible for ergonomic

or safety reasons

‒ For example, the machine operator may need to hold a tool, a piece of

metal, another actuator, or any necessary device

‒ In some applications, such as power presses, additional operator

protection such as point-of-operation guarding must be provided when

a foot switch is used as an actuator

• Foot switches are particularly suited for start and stop operations as

well as adjustment tasks

• The control of 2-speed machines as well as “hold to run” machine

cycles are also possible

*Never use a protective cover, a

trigger mechanism nor a safety door

for issuing a normal stop instruction

to a machine. Access to the stop

control must be as unrestricted as

possible and without any constraints.

Protective cover*

Avoids the risk of accidental operation by

falling objects, which could result in

unintentional starting of the machine

Extended comfort

Heel rest avoids discomfort in the base of the

backbone due to unbalanced positioning of

the body. Hand grip enables to easily carry

the foot switch at different places.

Trigger mechanism*

Enables locking of the pedal in the released

position. It prevents the lowering of the pedal

in case the foot is not fully inserted into the

pedal. This prevents from involuntary

actuation of the foot switch.

Pedal latching

Foot switches with pedal latching device are

particularly suited for the control of “hold to run”

machines, and also, for adjustments.

Atex D (protection against

dust) available

Single or double pedal

Pressing the pedal gives the machine

start instruction and, when the pedal

reaches its limit, it latches in the

operated position.

Removing the foot from the pedal will not

stop the machine cycle, the pedal remains

latched.

For issuing a normal stop, the foot is

replaced on the pedal and the toe plate is

operated: this returns the pedal to the rest

position.

Safety door*

Requires the intentional motion to

lift the door before inserting the

foot, to prevent accidental

operation.

Contact Blocks

The foot switch can incorporate 1 or 2

‘N/C+N/O’ contact blocks with snap

action and positive opening , an

analog output, with 1 or 2 steps.

• Robustness in harsh environments

‒ Resistance to shocks

‒ Resistance to oil, water, dust

‒ Very long mechanical life: up to 7 million operating cycles

• Protection by design: positive opening operations o XPE foot switches:

‒ The pedal hold down and the pedal release actions have a positive actuation fully

compliant with IEC 60947-5-1 standard (Electromechanical control circuit devices)

‒ It means that the electro-mechanical design of the XPE foot switch is such that the

release of the pedal, to stop the machine for example, directly triggers the opening

of the normally closed contacts

• Compactness and comfort

‒ The foot switch is designed such that the largeness of the operating pedal is

maximized to accommodate all types of footwear (large size, safety boots, …) while

restraining the depth of the foot switch
