What is Flicktion? It all started with some

doorbells. A man took pictures of

interesting doorbells and made up stories about people that live in the apartments

He posted his story with the picture online at Flickr

Other people started making up stories for pictures

“Flicktion” combines flickr and fiction together

Flickr is a free photo sharing site that has a few special features which include:

you like it Comments – Add details about a photo or just comment

on it

A little practice before we begin Open an internet browser and go to www.Flickr.com Also open a word processing program like Microsoft Word Remember the elements of a short story:

SETTING PLOT CONFLICT CHARACTER POINT OF VIEW THEME

A few points about the advanced search options.

Before you practice searching

Page 6: Flicktion

Full text will search the title and description of the photos and return more results.

Searching for tags only will only search in the key words assigned to each photo. This option will return less search results but they maybe more relevant.

Page 7: Flicktion

Selecting “safe search on” will filter out some inappropriate search results.

Page 8: Flicktion

Selecting creative commons ensure that the creator of the photo does not mind sharing the photo with you for other creative projects like Flickr. Always give the photographer credit for their photo.

Page 9: Flicktion

Now Practice

Search for a location Search for a city you would like to visit Select “most interesting” on the search results page Select a picture to use from the first page of results Study it closing and let you mind wander

Page 11: Flicktion

Next step is to post your story

If you do not have a yahoo ID you will need to create one to post you story.

You do not have to post your story but half the fun is letting other people read your work and make comments

If you do post your story add the tag “flicktion” to the image

Don’t worry about perfecting your story

Page 12: Flicktion

Some more practice

Try again. Search for another picture, this time ask yourself what animal would you be?

You might not get the results you expected but that makes it more interesting.

Page 13: Flicktion

Write as many or as few as you like.

Here are some more questions to try: Search by date. What pictures were taken on your birthday?

Pictures taken before 10/4/1997 and after 10/5/1997

Search for a t ime. What time is it right now? Ex. 3:48 pm

Search for a famous event or person.Average people post their photos of things we only see

on television this may give you a different perspective

*Remember: Not all the pictures you see are real. Some are illustrations or have been changed to be an artistic expression.
