The Problems Buffering Solve

1. Saves Time: Buffered anesthetic decreases time of onset from 12-15 minutes to less than 2 minutes on average

2. Reduces Pain: Buffering (adding Sodium Bicarbonate) Lidocaine reduces the acidity and thus the pain and sting from a shot

3. Increases Revenues: With faster and more predictable onset of anesthesia, more patients can be scheduled in a day

4. Improves Efficiency: Reduces steps required for anesthesia and enables multiple shots from one syringe not currently possible

Why buffering has been the elusive holy grail

Storage & shelflife • Buffered Lidocaine cannot be stored reliably

• Shelf life is reduced significantly by buffering

Effectiveness • Buffered anesthetic effectiveness decreases after 2 minutes

Cost & complexity • Mixing precise ratio in real time is complicated and time consuming

• All solutions to date have been extremely expensive
