Land Use Planning

Aerotropolis and Airport City

Dr. John Kasarda of the University of North Carolina pioneered the "Aerotropolis" concept, which is an urban development form comprising aviation-intensive businesses and related enterprises surrounding an airport.

An "Airport City" is developed at and immediately around the airport and serves as the multimodal, multi-functional commercial center of the Aerotropolis, anchoring air-enabled trade in goods and services.
