Maroon 5 – One More Night
First shots and camera angles reveal to the viewer that the story behind the music video is about a family of three (Father, Mother, Son/Daughter) and this is made obvious to the viewer as we have close up shots of family photos. Then we are taken to a two shot of the father and the child as the father is feeding the child, and then a close up of the mother cooking and looking back at the father feeding the child and smiling. Showing, at first, that this is a normal family showing no signs of anything unfamiliar.
We are then taken to a different environment away from the family home, and are taken to a gym where the father is training for something, and he is boxing so we assume that is the sport he is training for. (A close up of a tattoo on his right arm as he is sitting down shows the words ‘Los Angeles’ so we are made aware of the country/location we are in or possibly where this character was born.(Patriotism ?)) – Blur affect on the surroundings is used in this shot to define the writing on his arm and to grab the viewers attention.
Further on in the video we see that the farther(lead singer) is
getting his bags and leaving to go to the boxing fight, with mid
shots of the mother holding the child in between shots of him
leaving, this is to show the mothers facial expressions and
body stance(showing that she is worried and at the same time
in disagreement with him going).
In the next shot we have another close up of the two fish in the
fish bowl, this is to remind us of them as they are used as a
symbol of the relationship throughout the video. We are then
taken to a new scenery and location, the boxing ring, we re
made known to this quickly as we have a close up of a typical
boxing microphone that are used to introduce the boxers and
the fight. We then have an establishing shot of the boxing ring
with the main character climbing over the ropes with the crowd
at the foreground of the shot.
Special lighting and effects have been used to bring out the
colours and lights within the boxing area(in that particular
scene). A slight contrast has also been used, which is more
noticeable in the shot of the ref and the main character as the
ref is introducing the boxers. This contrast and CC(colour
correction) brings a nice feel to the picture, and adds a certain
effect of sepia to it, only slightly though.
