‘ I need your love’

CALVIN HARRIS FT. ELLIE GOULDING

The song I am going to be looking at is ‘I need you love’ by Calvin Harris featuring Ellie Goulding. Calvin Harris is DJ,

singer, songwriter and record producer specialising in genres such as electro house, progressive house and nu

disco. All of these genres of music are dance related and so they are fast pace and up beat. Ellie Goulding is a British singer-songwriter who focuses on music within synthpop, folktonica and dream pop genres. These genres show the diverse range and abilities that Goulding has within her musical talents. ‘I need your love’ was written by Calvin

and Harris and features Ellie Goulding in both the song and video. The song got primarily good reviews from critics and got to number 4 in the UK singles charts and was in the top

5 for 5 other countries.

‘I NEED YOUR LOVE’

The music video features both Calvin Harris and Ellie Goulding as a romantic young couple on a trip to Miami.

Throughout the video it switches from professional director shots to amateur-like ones from Harris and

Goulding. The video starts off with Goulding in a bed and Harris coming in and showing a romantic relationship

with her. The shots throughout the video then show the couple on their trip around Miami together. There is also

shots of other people as the ‘camera’ that they were using together is left at the beach and an individual picks up the

camera and starts skateboarding around the beach and then he takes it to a bar where another individual end up

picking it up. He then rids his motorcycle down the highway with the camera on the front of his bike. Another

person then gets hold of the camera and takes it on a helicopter tour of Miami. And the to someone who is jet skiing until they drop it in the water and it gets washed up onto the beach. It is then picked up by someone else

and then it gets taken to a night club where Harris is performing and gets the camera back. There is a shot of all the people at the club dancing and jumping around.

There is then all the shots fast forwarded till it stops and the two of them in the room that they were filming in at

the start of the video.

BACKGROUND TO THE VIDEO

Both Harris and Goulding are seen at various points in the video holding a

camera and filming their antics around the Miami area in places such as a resort, a car, and at the beach. We want to use the idea from this

video within our music video. We want to make a video that we can have

some ‘real life; shots and have those who are acting in our video look as

thought they are the ones recording. Within ‘I need you love’ these shots

are done to show the close relationship between the two

characters showing their trip with each other and so we want to make

sure we can do the same.

‘AMATEUR STYLE’ SHOTS

Just before the video ends there is a speeded up version of the main sections from the video that get

shown. We want to do this within our music video to highlight the

main points of the shots in a ‘flash back’ feel. We also want to

incorporate another idea from the ‘I need your love’ music video. The

start shots of Goulding in bed is in the same room as the final shots where she is joined by Harris. We want to do the same thing and so we will start and finish the music video with similar shots as each

other in the same location. We also want to use similar shots such as

that of location, clothes, close up of peoples faces. This will help give the feel of our video a real raw

feeling, with all the shots together along with the ‘amateur-style’

recording I think we will be able to successfully accomplish this.
