ABSTRACT

(This is an example of abstract)

Electrical discharge machining (EDM) is a non-traditional, thermo-electrical

process, which erodes materials from the work piece by a series of discrete sparks

between the work and tool electrode immersed in a liquid dielectric medium. These

electrical discharges melt and vaporize minute amounts of the work material, which are

then ejected and flushed away by the dielectric.

In this experiment, an attempt has been made to optimize the cutting parameters

using the Taguchi’s technique which is based on the robust design. Experiments are

carried out machining the different materials, viz, HDS, OHNS and Mild steel using the

molybdenum wire of diameter 0.18mm as tool. The input process parameters considered

during experiments are viz, Pulse ON (T-ON), Pulse OFF (T-OFF), Current, Servo

voltage and Feed. The data are taken for the work piece thickness of 40 mm and

corresponding accuracy, surface roughness and material removal rate are measured.

To optimize process parameters, the Level 2 factors are chosen by conducting the

different experiments by modifying the standard parameters given by the company for

machining the different materials. The standard data are considered as level 1 parameters

and modified parameters considered as level 2 parameters. This step is called factor level

configuration. The response variables measured for the analysis are accuracy, surface

roughness and material removal rate. Analysis has been done through various steps like

calculating degrees of freedom, physical layout and total response layout up to ANOVA

table.

After the confirmation experiment, it was observed that, optimized parameters

have given best results, so these parameters can be used to achieve the good surface finish

and better accuracy than before. It was found during analysis that, the interaction has not

shown any effects on response variable except on surface roughness of HDS and OHNS

materials.

CHAPTER-1

CHAPTER NAME (CENTRED, FONT 18)

1.1. MAIN HEADING

Project reports should be typed neatly only on one side of the paper with 1.5 line

spacing on a A4 size bond paper (210 x 297 mm). The margins should be: Left – 1.25″,

Right – 1″, Top and Bottom – 0.75″.

Chapters to be numbered in Arabic containing Introduction-, which usually specifies

the scope of work and its importance and relation to previous work and the present

developments. Main body of the report should be divided appropriately into chapters,

sections and subsections.

1.1.1 SUB-HEADING

The chapters, sections and subsections may be numbered in the decimal form for e.g.

Chapter 2, sections as 2.1, 2.2 etc., and subsections as 2.2.3, 2.5.1 etc. The chapter must be

left or right justified (font size 16). Followed by the title of chapter, centered (font size 18),

section/subsection numbers along with their headings must be left justified with section

number and its heading in font size 16 and subsection and its heading in font size 14. The

body or the text of the report should have font size 12.

1.1.2 SUB-HEADING

The total number of reports to be submitted is: One copy to the department,

one copy to the concerned guide(s), one copy to the sponsoring agency and one copy to the

candidate. Before taking the final printout, the approval of the concerned guide(s) is

mandatory and suggested corrections, if any, must be incorporated.

1.2. MAIN HEADING

For making copies dry tone Xerox is suggested. Every copy of the report must contain

Inner title page (White), outer title page with a plastic cover. Certificate in the format

enclosed both from the college and the organization where the project is carried out. An

abstract (synopsis) not exceeding 100 words, indicating salient features of the work.

1.2.1 SUB-HEADING

The organization of the report should be as follows. Inner title page, Abstract or

Synopsis, Acknowledgments, Table of Contents, List of table & figures, usually numbered

in roman.

The chapter must be left or right justified (font size 16). Followed by the title of

chapter centered (font size 18), section/subsection numbers along with their headings must

be left justified with section number and its heading in font size 16 and subsection and its

heading in font size 14. The body or the text of the report should have font size 12.

1.2.2 SUB HEADING

The figures and tables must be numbered chapter wise for e.g.: Fig. 2.1. Block

diagram of a serial binary adder, Table 3.1. Primitive flow table, etc. The last chapter

should contain the summary of the work carried, contributions if any, their utility along

with the scope for further work.

Fig. 1.1 Project Exhibition-2016 @ DSCE

The project report should be brief and include descriptions of work carried out by others

only to the minimum extent necessary. Verbatim reproduction of material available

elsewhere should be strictly avoided. Where short excerpts from published work are

Title of the Paper (use times new roman, 10 font, single spacing, left justified

desired to be included, they should be within quotation marks appropriately referenced.

All references should be cited as [1], [2] etc. in the order of their occurrences.

Proper attention is to be paid not only to the technical contents but also to the organization

of the report and clarity of the expression. Due care should be taken to avoid spelling and

typing errors. The student should note that report-write-up forms the important component

in the overall evaluation of the project. Hardware projects must include: the component

layout, complete circuit with the component list containing the name of the component,

numbers used, etc. and the main component data sheets as Appendix. At the time of report

submissions, the students must hand over a copy of these details to the project coordinator

and see that they are entered in proper registers maintained in the department.

Software projects must include a virus free disc, containing the software developed by

them along with the read me file. Read me file should contain the details of the variables

used, salient features of the software and procedure of using them: compiling procedure,

details of the computer hardware/software requirements to run the same, etc.

1.3. TABLE FORMATTING

Caption for the table should be shown at the top of the table as shown in Table 1.1.

1.4. ABBREVIATIONS AND ACRONYMS

Define abbreviations and acronyms the first time they are used in the text, even after

they have been defined in the abstract. Abbreviations such as IEEE, SI, MKS, CGS, sc, dc,

and rms do not have to be defined. Do not use abbreviations in the title or heads unless

they are unavoidable.

1.5. UNITS

Use either SI (MKS) or CGS as primary units. (SI units are encouraged.) English

units may be used as secondary units (in parentheses).

Avoid combining SI and CGS units. This often leads to confusion because equations

do not balance dimensionally. If you must use mixed units, clearly state the units for

each quantity that you use in an equation.

Use a zero before decimal points: “0.25,” not “.25.” Use “cm3,” not “cc.”

1.6. EQUATIONS

Only SI units are to be used in the report. Important equations must be numbered in

decimal form for e.g.

F=ma (1.1)

All equation numbers should be right justified. Use Microsoft equation editor to create

equations.

The equations are an exception to the prescribed specifications of this template. You

will need to determine whether or not your equation should be typed using either the

Times New Roman or the Symbol font (please no other font).

Number equations consecutively. Equation numbers, within parentheses, are to

position right, as in (1.1), using a right tab stop. Italicize Roman symbols for quantities and

variables, but not Greek symbols. Use a long dash rather than a hyphen for a minus sign.

Punctuate equations with commas or periods when they are part of a sentence, as in

ab

Page 16: Be project report template

Title of the Paper (use times new roman, 10 font, single spacing, left justified

Note that the equation is centered using a center tab stop. Be sure that the symbols in your

equation have been defined before or immediately following the equation. Use “(1),” not

“Eq. (1)” or “equation (1),” except at the beginning of a sentence: “Equation (1) is ...”

1.7. FIGURES AND TABLES

Figure captions should be below the figures; table heads should appear above the

tables. Insert figures and tables after they are cited in the text. Use the abbreviation “Fig.

1,” even at the beginning of a sentence.

1.7.1 POSITIONING FIGURES AND TABLES

Figure Labels: Use 12 point Times New Roman for Figure labels. Use words rather

than symbols or abbreviations when writing Figure axis labels to avoid confusing the

reader. As an example, write the quantity “Magnetization,” or “Magnetization, M,” not

just “M.” If including units in the label, present them within parentheses. Do not label axes

only with units. In the example, write “Magnetization (A/m)” or “Magnetization (A

( m(1),” not just “A/m.” Do not label axes with a ratio of quantities and units. For

example, write “Temperature (K),” not “Temperature/K.”

The template will number citations consecutively within brackets [1]. The sentence

punctuation follows the bracket [2]. Refer simply to the reference number, as in [3]—do

not use “Ref. [3]” or “reference [3]” except at the beginning of a sentence: “Reference [3]

was the first ...”

Number footnotes separately in superscripts. Place the actual footnote at the bottom

of the column in which it was cited. Do not put footnotes in the reference list. Use letters

for table footnotes.

Unless there are six authors or more give all authors’ names; do not use “et al.”.

Papers that have not been published, even if they have been submitted for publication,

should be cited as “unpublished” [4]. Papers that have been accepted for publication

should be cited as “in press” [5]. Capitalize only the first word in a paper title, except for

proper nouns and element symbols.

For papers published in translation journals, please give the English citation first,

followed by the original foreign-language citation [6].
