Pope
• He is the person who controls the catholic church in the whole wide world after the name of Jesus. He has the highest rank between all Catholics and he stays in the Vatican, Rome.
Monasteries• A church isolated
from normal people that are settled in by monks for praying and other religious activities.
Bishop• They control
under the archbishop and they have the control over everything like the priests and monks and nuns, most bishops come from nobles. They control dioceses.
Abbot• An Abbot in
the middle ages is a person in the church that has more power than monks, and he can control them. They elect him as their leader.
Monks and Nuns• They are men and women that dedicate
themselves and their lives to God; praying, helping the poor etc. A monk or a nun is a "properly member" in a monastery or a convent under a more powerful person. The difference between a monk and a nun is that monks are males who live in monasteries and nuns are females who live in convents.
Convents
• A convent is an organization that is made and controlled by monks and nuns. They are religious people that have a high rank.
Cardinals• The cardinals are people that are chosen by
the pope, and they form a sacred college, which then choose the pope that will rule after the death of the other one.
Abbess• In the middle ages an abbess was a woman
that is superior over a group of convent nuns. She is basically similar to an abbot, but the is a female.
Secular Clergy
• They are religious people. They are exactly like the priests, but they are not joining the catholic church, and they help and support people with advices, they interfere with people.
Regular Clergy• They are the same as a secular clergy, but the
only difference is that they work in a church away from people without interfering with them.
Archbishop• An archbishop
is as a regular bishop, but the archbishop has a higher rank than a bishop they have higher rank. They rule an archdiocese.
Parish Priest• A parish priest is a regular priest, he controls a
small church rather than a big one. He is responsible for anything about legal aspects for the church.
Parish Church• This church is the one controlled by a parish
priest. The difference between a parish church and a regular church is that the parish church is a small church than the regular, but at the end they have the same things.
Vatican• The Vatican is the largest church in the world
in which the pope stays in and control from it.
Curia• A curia is a group of people that help control
the churches and they are under the Pope in power right away. Another name for them is Cardinals.
Infallible• To be infallible is to make no mistakes or to
do no wrong things. The pope is considered infallible.
Vicar of Christ• A Vicar of Christ is the pope’s title. It means
that his job is to continue what Jesus had started.
Basilica• A basilica is a large hall or building that is
used as a public place or a law court and is holy place for Christians.
Dioceses• The place that contain churches, which is
controlled by a bishop. It’s smaller than an archdiocese.
