FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Responsible Pet Ownership Storybook— Loving Marley Wins Book Of The Year Award
Creative Child Magazine presents national literary honor to storybook, Loving Marley, for
being creative and promoting social responsibility for pets.
HARTFORD, CONN. – Nov. 16, 2009,
PugTale Publishing (www.pugtalepublishing.com) announced today that its storybook, Loving
Marley, that promotes lifetime commitment and love for companion animals, has won Creative
Child Magazine 2009 Book Of The Year Award (category Responsibility).
―We are thrilled that Creative Child Magazine selected Loving Marley as a top product for its
creativity in helping parents and children prepare for responsible pet ownership,‖ Authors Donald
and Sara Hassler said.
While many children’s products were awarded for being fun, safe and creative, they were also
recognized for being socially responsible. Loving Marley focuses on responsible pet ownership
skills and promotes a good, solid, moral and compassionate value system through humane and
character education.
According to studies performed by the Character Education Partnership, 90% of Americans were
found to support Character Education in the classroom. The Humane Education Advocates
Reaching Teachers has also reported that fourteen states currently have Humane Education laws in
existence that mandate that Humane Education be taught in schools.
Authors Donald and Sara Hassler said, ―Parents and educators can count on Loving Marley to
introduce kids, at the earliest and most primary grade levels, to the humane treatment of animals.
By developing and illustrating the human-pet bond, Loving Marley shows children how to love
and make a lifelong commitment to a pet.‖
According to the 2009/2010 National Pet Owners Survey (American Pet Products Association,
APPA), 62% of U.S. households own a pet (71.4 millions homes). Also reported by the APPA, is
substantial evidence that pet ownership has a positive impact on people’s physical, psychological
well-being and social interactions.
Donald and Sara Hassler, authors of Loving Marley said, ―This award validates and further sup-
ports that learning how to give and receive unconditional love through the benefits of the human-
pet bond is a gift worth sharing and handing down to our children and our pets.‖
