My focus group consisted of Stephanie and Kirsty. The first question was asking How much would they pay for a music magazine. Kirsty said £2.50 and Stephanie said £3 therefore it would be appropriate for me to price my magazine anything in between them prices as I now know that is what my target audience are willing to pay. Focus Group Analysis

As part of my research and planning I held a focus group to find out more about my general target audience for my chosen genre of indie rock.

The next question I asked was why they buy music magazines because this would tell me what they want to be inside the magazine. They answered to find out about artists. This tells me my magazine should include information about new artists as it would draw the readership in and want to read my magazine.

For the third question I presented the respondents with two front covers of music magazines asked them which front cover they preferred. Both of them said they preferred the front cover on the left because they found the colours more appealing. Also the magazine on the left looks more understandable and clear for the readers to read.

The forth question asked was what colours would attract them to a music magazine. This question would influence my work as it tells me what they find appealing and what colours should be on my music magazine. Both Kirsty and Stephanie answered red, black and white which tells me I should include these colours in my magazine.

I then asked Kirsty and Stephanie which artists they would like to see on a front cover of a music magazine. One said the 1975 and another said bastille, they are both popular mainstream indie artists. This tells me that I should include popular well known artists in my magazine to attract my general target audience.

For the sixth question I asked Kirsty and Stephanie what they would like to be included inside the magazine and they responded telling me they wanted to see interviews and tour dates. This tells me what they like to see included in my magazine and what I should do to make them enjoy my magazine.

The seventh question asked do they prefer the contents page to be more image or text based. This tells me how my contents page should be laid out so they will enjoy my magazine. Both answered they prefer images as they find images more appealing to look at. One image can tell the readership what is happening instead of reading long text.

I then presented them with two contents pages and asked them to tell me which one they preferred. Both answered with the contents page on the left. The contents page on the left is more organised and easy for the readership to read and understand. This influenced my practical work and tells me mine should also be clearly laid out and easy to understand.

Then they were presented with two double page spreads and were asked which one they preferred. Again this would tell me what my general target audience like and what I should do for them to like my magazine. They both said they liked the double page spread on the left best.

Lastly, to find out what images I should use for my double page spread so I asked what type of images they would like to see. They both replied they prefer photo shoot images therefor I know I should include photo shoot images in my magazine.
