INTERACTIVE CLASS LESSON BY KELLEY BOOK LS591 PURPOSE THE PURPOSE OF THIS INTERACTIVE CLASS LESSON IS TO LAY THE FOUNDATION FOR TECHNOLOGY APPLICATION AND TO INTRODUCE STUDENTS AND CLASSROOM TEACHERS TO NEW FORMS OF TECHNOLOGY THAT ENHANCE LEARNING. PURPOSETHE PURPOSE OF THIS INTERACTIVE CLASS LESSON IS TO LAY THE FOUNDATION FOR TECHNOLOGY APPLICATION AND TO INTRODUCE STUDENTS AND CLASSROOM TEACHERS TO NEW FORMS OF TECHNOLOGY THAT ENHANCE LEARNING. Objectives The learners will navigate the interactive PowerPoint to explore

websites, wikis, blogs, podcasts and mind mapping tools. The learner will use a graphic organizer to record pre/post

technology knowledge and areas for further learning. The learner will access and review “Internet Safety Tips” to

reinforce previously established guidelines for responsible and courteous computer usage.

The media specialist will collaborate with the classroom teacher to develop a technology plan to enhance classroom instruction.

The TEKS addressed during this lesson would include:126.2 Technology Applications, Kindergarten-Grade 5 Knowledge and Skills (1) Foundations. The student demonstrates knowledge and

appropriate use of hardware components, software programs, and their connections.

(5) Information acquisition. The student acquires electronic information in a variety of formats, with appropriate supervision.

(6) Information acquisition. The student evaluates the acquired electronic information.

Learner Outcomes

Target Audience: Grades 3-5: Students will complete the interactive PowerPoint in

a lab setting with a partner. Support will be provided by the teacher/librarian as needed by students.

Grades K-2: Students will navigate the PowerPoint as a class using a SmartBoard or in small groups with assistance as needed by the teacher/librarian or older student helpers.

Content Areas Addressed: Science Social Studies Language ArtsMaterials needed: Computers with Internet access SmartBoard (K-2) “Technology Components” Graphic Organizer

Note: The graphic organizer may be completed together as a class in grades K-2

Technology Belief Statement

All learners will have access to technology. All learners will be instructed how to use technology

responsibly and courteously. Technology instruction will be purposeful,

meaningful and relevant. Technology instruction will occur in the context of

daily learning. All educators will be trained to implement the Texas

Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) for Technology Applications.

Educators will create lessons that teach and reinforce the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) for Technology Applications.

Educators will collaborate on lesson plans and projects to meet the needs of diverse learners.

Internet Safety Tips On each of the following lessons you will see an “Internet

Safety Tips” button. These “Tips" review the rules and guidelines discussed and

practiced in previous technology lessons. Be sure to click on each “Tip" and review with your partner

as you are working. You will be taking an “Internet Safety Tip” quiz and the end

of these lessons.

Steps to Learning: Each technology lesson will focus on a form of technology

which can help you make connections and deepen your learning.

The technology topics we will explore are: Research Project Websites Wikis and Blogs Podcast Book Websites Mind Mapping Tools

We will explore these forms of technology more during the year. The purpose of this lesson is to get you excited about technology and get you thinking about how you can use it to learn more!

As your explore with your partner, use the graphic organizer to record your discoveries.

At the end of each lesson we will have a “wrap up” session so be sure you have connections to share.
