how do we evaluate what

makes good art?

definitely, through form: how powerfully and effectively

does it communicate through visual form?

e.g., through line, color, shape, composition, etc.

does content matter? (the subject matter of the picture?)

some writers on art think the subject matter is significant—

some do not.

what do you think? does it matter what it's a picture of?—for

example, a beautiful landscape versus a destroyed industrial

one?
