Worldwide 13” and 14” rims are decreasing,
meanwhile 17” rim size is growing.
18” & 19” are negligable
S segment is steadily decreasing while
V segment is significantly increasing.
Due to
development of
engine technology
and sophisticated
technologies, cars
are faster powerful
and heavier.
Light tires- Ratings
Average passenger car standarts shifted to 15”-17” rim
size; H, V speed ratings are dominating
As speed rating and rim sizes
are increasing, price of
tires/wheels also increasing

RIM Size
Tire Weight vs. Rim Size
Light tires- Ratings
Due to size increase,
heavier tires are observed
As of Nov 2012, no tire without labeling will
be sold in EU Countries.
Light tires- Regulations/Labelling
Even the emission impact of ‘’Low Rolling Resistance’’ in tires is not too
much, it is one of the likely and cost effective solutions.
Therefore OEM will strongly ask tire makers to produce ’’Low Rolling
Resistance’’ tires.

Safety
• Demanding customers and regulations
• Safety level required by customers, always higher than regulations
İnnovative solutions
• Enhanced solutions for active and passive security
• ABS, airbags are industry standarts, night vision systems, EBD, EBS are yet to be in the standart package
• Following sedans, hatchbacks and SUV’s , there are crossover vehicles
• Infotainment will be highlighted
Tires
•Improved wet grip without sacrificing ‘’Rolling Resistance’’
•Cut resistant sidewalls
•Self Sealing tires
•Run Flat Tires

HP and UHP tires are in growth trend, these segments will always use
CAP PLY due to its positive effects for ’’Low Rolling Resistance’’ .
Light tires- Rolling Resistance
Light Tires Conclusions
• Globally speed ratings and tire sizes are shifting one step upward.
• Polyester offering more Dimensional stability and modulus which are
highlights for tire performance. Hot issue for HP/UHP tires.
• From Material standpoint Kevlar and Carbon fiber are tried to be positioned
in light tires.
• Although Tire Rolling Resistance is more related with hysterisis of rubber;
without cap plies Rolling Resistance would be increased due to belt edge
shear.
• Rolling Resistance and weight is critical for Hybrid Vehicles, so less amount
of material ( 1 Polyester carcass, 1 Layer Cap Ply ) will be popular.
• Run Flat Tires are remained to be only the ‘’Original Equipment’’ of ‘’A’’
segment cars. Polyester is replacing polyester as carcass material.
• Use of Cap plies in NY 6.6 will be continous, whereas hybrid cord usage
will be limited for UHP and ’’ Very Low Rolling Resistance’’ tires.
