School on August 19, 2018 from 9:00AM to 4:00PM. Blood drive staff will include personnel who speak Spanish. The Saint Matthew Knights of Columbus will conduct preliminary signups in the church narthex on Aug 4, 5, 11 and 12. Please consider being a donor.

Porque es tan importante que los padres inscrib-

an a sus hijos al catesismo? Para que sus hijos

puedan tener una educación religiosa sólida,

fundamentada en la Palabra de Dios y en la

doctrina de la Iglesia Católica. Sus hijos como

católicos, al tomar estas clases de Educación

Religiosa, profundizarán, comprenderán y se les

responderán a tan preguntas teológicas y

existenciales que tiene todo ser humano. Por

ejemplo ¿Que es la obra del creador? ¿Porque la

Iglesia se reúne? ¿Porque las familias tienen que

ensenar amor? ¿Qué es la Santísima Trinidad?

¿que celebra la Iglesia? ¿Qué es el cuerpo de

Cristo? ¿Porque siempre tengo que decidir amar?

¿Porque siempre tengo que vivir en la luz?

¿Porque tengo que pedir ayuda en mis

decisiones? ¿Porque tengo que recibir los

sacramentos? ¿Porque tengo que continuar en la

Iglesia? ¿Porque tengo que ayudar en la Iglesia? Y

finalmente comprenderán que nuestro destino

final es la eternidad.

Porque San Mateo se encuentra en lugar

privilegiado en el jardín de Dios. Esta es una

parroquia ferviente, llena de Dios. Somos una

comunidad que Ora, que alaba, que estudia que

apoya a las necesidades de los demás. Es una

comunidad que aporta a la Iglesia, que trabaja con

consistencia e inspirados por el Espíritu Santo y es

obediente a nuestra madre Iglesia Católica.

Why should parents enroll their children into

religious education? So that your children can

have a solid religious education, founded on

the Word of God and the doctrine of the

Catholic Church. Their children as Catholics, as

they take this Religious Education, will deepen,

understand and respond to theological

questions that every human being naturally

has. For example , what is the work of the

creator? Why does the Church meet? Why do

families must teach love? What is the Holy

Trinity? What does the Church celebrates?

What is the body of Christ? Why do I always

have decide to love? Why do I have to always

live in the light? Why do I have to ask for help in

my decisions? Why do I have to receive the

sacraments? Why do I have to continue in the

Church? Why do I have to help in the Church?

And finally understand that our ultimate

destiny is eternity.

What Makes Faith here at St. Matthew for-

mation unique?

San Mateo is because in a privileged place in

the garden of God. This is a fervent parish, full

of God. We are a community that prays,

praises, which studies supporting the needs of

others. It is a community that brings to the

Church, which works consistently and inspired

by the Holy Spirit and is obedient to our

mother Catholic Church.

XVII Domingo Ordinario

Hoy, la Palabra nos revela al Dios de amor que ali-menta al pueblo y sacia su hambre para siempre. Eliseo, en la primera lectura, nos brinda un gran ejemplo al decidir que las primicias de alimento que aquel hombre le traía para él, se distribuyeran entre la gente que tenía hambre. El Evangelio nos presenta una imagen similar con Jesús y sus discípulos. La narración incluye la tensión entre la lógica humana y la fe incondicional de aquellos que confían en Dios. Los discípulos de Jesús cuestionan de dónde y cómo van a dar tanta comida a la muchedumbre; Jesús, sin embargo, les invita a con-fiar en Él y en Dios, y provoca que todos los

presentes coman hasta saci-arse y aún conserven las so-bras de lo que compartieron. Para Dios no hay imposibles; para nosotros tampoco, si confiamos en su infinita mis-ericordia. La Carta a los Efesi-os afirma que en Jesucristo formamos un solo cuerpo y vivimos en un mismo Espíritu que nos nutre y alimenta pa-ra que compartamos con nuestro prójimo el alimento de Dios con los dones que

transforman nuestra realidad humana: la ama-bilidad, la misericordia, el perdón y la comprensión. La Palabra, por lo tanto, nos presenta un gran de-safío: en justicia, vivimos llamados a saciar el ham-bre que prevalece a nuestro alrededor entre aquellos que viven marginados por la sociedad; en la caridad y la generosidad, nuestro alimento tra-sciende la que nos nutre físicamente; debe abarcar el compromiso de servir a nuestro prójimo con los dones que el Espíritu Santo nos ha concedido. Con-viene, por lo tanto, que el comité parroquial de liturgia haya propuesto un equilibrio entre estos dos tipos de “alimentos” por medio de sus comen-tarios, preces y selección de la música litúrgica pro-pia de esta celebración.

XVII Sunday of Ordinary Time

Today, the word of God unveils his unconditional

love that feeds the people and satisfies their hunger

forever. In the First Reading, Elisha is the prime

example of generosity as he distributes among the

hungry the barley loaves made from the firstfruits.

The Gospel narrative presents a similar image with

Jesus and his disciples. It includes the persistent

tension between human logic and the faith

experience of those who trust God unconditionally.

The disciples question how they are going to acquire

enough food to feed such a large crowd. Jesus invites

them to trust God, and

makes present God’s

generosity as he

multiplies the food

available to satisfy the

entire crowd, to the point

of leftovers. The Letter to

the Ephesians confirms

that in Jesus Christ, we

are one people in the

same Spirit. Christ

nourishes us by his

presence so that we can

feed our neighbors with

the gifts we have received from the Lord: human

kindness, forgiveness, support, and a deep

understanding of our role in the Church and in

society. For this reason, God’s word presents us with

a critical challenge—by the virtue of justice, we are

called to satisfy the physical hunger of many who live

in the periphery of our societies. But in true charity,

our mission to feed others transcends the physical

attention to their needs, and we are called to serve

them by sharing the gifts that the Spirit has granted

us. This challenge may inspire our parish liturgical

committees as they prepare the Sunday

commentaries, the Prayers of the Faithful, and music

selection for the celebration. How do we maintain a

balance in our call to feed others between the
