Dear St. Matthew Parishioners, Families and Friends,
Month of the Rosary
Let us remember that this month of October is dedicated to the Rosary. Consider taking some time out of our busy lives to pray the Rosary, as a family or meditating alone. This would be an ideal opportunity to introduce the rosary to young children. Start out with using the beads. Children need to touch, count and know what the different beads mean. At the end of this time the child would have acquired a loving and respectful familiarity with the beads. Sometime along this apprenticeship you should introduce the real meaning of the rosary by telling your children the story of our salvation as expressed in the fifteen mysteries, as a simple story. John Paul II called the Rosary his favorite prayer. He offered mass in Fatima on May 13th, 1982, to give thanks for Mary’s intercession in saving his life a year earlier. He reminded the faithful that the message of Fatima is a call to conversion and repentance, the nucleus of the message of the Gospel. He re-consecrated the world to Mary’s Immaculate Heart and called all to prayer, especially the Rosary. (Continued on page 2)

Dear St. Matthew Parishioners, Families and Friends, (cont’d)
Let us consider this beautiful prayer of the Rosary as a means that we too can use in order to draw closer to Jesus and Mary by meditating on the great mysteries of our salvation. Blessings, Ann Connelly, Admissions & Alumni Development Director St. Matthew Catholic School
Dear Mother, I bring Thee roses Because they are so sweet,
But lilies, my favorite flowers I am placing at Thy feet.
Accept with each Hail Mary
A rose for Thy crown so bright; Please don't forget the lilies, The lilies so pure and white.
Let them be a bond of love
And understanding rare, And send a blessing from above
In answer to my prayer.
Loneliness would be unknown If more people came to Thee, With their trials and sorrows
And said their Rosary.
With each Hail Mary, they would find Their load much lighter grow, And in humility, kiss the cross In peace, would onward go.

Twenty-seventh Sun-day in Ordinary Time
Proper stewardship can be defined and meas-ured in a variety of ways. In today's Gospel from Mark, when Jesus notes that His followers are try-ing to prevent children from "bothering" Him, He states, "Let the children come to me; do not pre-vent them, for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these." There are two les-sons for us in this passage.
The first reminds us or our responsibility as stew-ards for the children of our faith community. The pri-mary duty for raising and forming children in the faith is, of course, the par-ents. However, each of us who is baptized into the community and is a vital part of the Body of Christ shares in stewarding these
little ones. A second les-son has to do with Jesus telling us "...whoever does not accept the kingdom of God like a child will not enter it." Small children, infants in particular, are largely helpless. They need us. Jesus' point to us is that we need the Lord. Chil-dren understand their de-pendence. Nevertheless, we sometimes balk at the thought that we are totally dependent upon God. If we reach that conclusion, and if we put our lives into God's Hands, like a child, we are more likely to "inherit the kingdom." Je-sus is telling us to trust Him, and that will help us to be the stewards and dis-ciples we are expected to be.

Nocturnal Adoration The Nocturnal Adoration Society will have its
monthly Eucharistic Adoration hour this
coming Saturday, October 10th. Eucharistic Adoration is an expression of our love for Jesus, who loves us so much that He never wants to leave us and so stays with us day and night in the Blessed Sacrament.
Please look into your hearts and try to make some time to come to adore Jesus in the Eucharist. Jesus "waits for us in this Sacrament of Love," where He appeals to each one of us:
"Could you not watch one hour with me?" (Mt. 26:40).
♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥
(Mt. 26:40).
We pray for Catholics throughout the world that the Holy Spirit may help us bear witness to the truth that every
life is worth living.
Please save your donations for Bundle Weekend! The Society of St. Vincent de Paul will have a truck or trailer here the weekend of
October 17 & 18, 2015. Volunteers will be on hand to accept donations of clothing, books, small appliances, and even electronics, whether they work or not. The truck will be open before and after all of the Masses. Plastic bags will be handed out the weekend of October 10-11, 2015.
