All American Week in Review

The annual "All American Week" was held on Fort Bragg from May 16 to the 20, hosted by the 82nd Airborne Division. The theme for this year's week was "Living the Legacy - Back to Basics."

During the week, paratroopers were given the opportunity to meet and honor veterans, and military members also

challenged each other in a number of athletic and airborne competitions.

"Those who came before us set a high standard that we continue to emulate," Major General J i m H u g g i n s , t h e

commanding general of the division, told the Fayetteville Observer.

"All American Week" honors the division's heritage and retired service members. Nearly 22,000 paratroopers attended the event and participated in the many scheduled events including the division run which kicked off the week on the Monday.

This year was the first time since 2006 that all of the division's brigades were on hand for the Divis ion Review, one of the highlights of All American Week. On Pike Field, retired Command Sgt. Maj. Steven R. England thanked their families and veterans for their sacrifices and applauded those on the field for their hard work and dedication.

"For those of you out on the field today, you're military history now," England said.

Service members also attended a memorial ceremony and a jo int operational access demonstration showcasing paratroopers participating in

an airfield seizure, parachute pull-off demonstration, squad demonstrations, a heavy equipment drop and combat aviation support.

In the month of May, Echo Company has been gearing up for pre-deployment operation. The Company had a Pre- Deployment Assistant Survey to evaluate the unit overall deployment readiness status. The Headquarters Platoon was evaluated on Nuclear Biological Chemical (NBC), Communication equipment, Vehicle readiness, and the Weapon’s operational status. During the PDAS Survey the Motorpool was involved in preparing for the survey. SFC Youman and CW2 Hunter, with the help of several Soldiers, had four M978A2 HEMMT Fuel Trucks inspected so that they could be taken on the deployment to Afghanistan to support Task Force Wolfpack. Each Platoon worked hard as a team to accomplish the mission to get the job done. Each section received an overall “GO” during the survey.

Also in preparation for deployment, the Distribution, Headquarters Platoon and a section of the Motorpool has been busy preparing for the High Altitude Mountain Environmental Training (HAMET) which will take place at Butts Army Airfield near Fort Carson, CO. Distribution Platoon is sending 18 Troopers to set up a Forward Arming Refueling Point at the airfield to support TF Wolfpack’s Aviators as they train to fly in high altitudes. The Headquarters’ Platoon is sending 10 Cooks to prepare hot meals throughout the training exercise. The Maintenance team consisting of three Soldiers will provide mechanical support for the equipment during HAMET. Giving them valuable experience on what it’s like to operate in a high altitude environment. While a few Soldiers of the Maintenance Platoon are at Fort Carson. The majority of the motorpool is currently gearing up for deployment by preparing to induct our equipment into LBE (Left Behind Equipment). To turn over the equipment to the civilians during the LBE process, each vehicle must have all of its paperwork up to date and must be in fully mission capable.

Throughout the company, Soldiers have been receiving additional training to sustain the company during deployment. This past month, PV2 Ellis completed DTMS training to support the orderly room mission. SPC Cristello completed the weapons gauging. In the Distribution Platoon, new Troopers were trained on Ammunition handling and refueling procedures, which has been a major priority for the Platoon.

During the past month, several Soldiers were selected to attend leadership training. SGT Berry is currently completing Advance Leadership Course in Fort Lee, VA. SPC Adams, SPC Morgan, SPC Sobert is taking the next step to achieve a leadership role while completing the Warrior Leadership Course held at Fort Bragg. SPC Adzoble and SPC Qualls attended Warrior Leadership Course from April 18 to May 5, 2011. SPC Adzoble received superior marks for his performance in leadership roles while attending WLC. Warrior Leadership Course is a month-long course that teaches Specialists and Corporals the basic skills to lead small groups of Soldiers. This course is hard hitting and intensive with emphasis on leadership skills and prepares Soldiers to advance to the rank of Sergeant. These Soldiers were faced with the challenge of being a leaders in a squad sized elements in both field and garrison environments. They also spent time in the classroom learning how to gather and present information in a professional style. Congratulations to SPC Adzoble and SPC Qualls for a job well done.

The month of May started off slow for Echo Company. The company had a solid week of work that was capped off by pay day activities. All the Soldiers participated and the ones who live in the barracks completed an inspection flawlessly. The following week, the company transitioned into All-American week. The week kicked off with the Division Run and was followed by two days of sporting events in which the Lonewolves made their mark on the Division. Soldiers throughout the Division were given the opportunity to participate in a multitude of events, and these are the Soldiers that helped represent TF Wolfpack. PFC Mann jumped in on the tug-a-war and held his own against Soldiers from the BCTs. SPC Adzoble, SPC Jiminez, and SPC Caldaron competed in the Assault Course. During the Combative competition SGT Vitola and PFC Burt were able to display their talent and techniques as well. SPC Quiroz and PFC Patrick helped lead the soccer team to the finals before they were beaten. Some of the newer Soldiers to the company like SGT Ellington, SGT Chatman, PFC Whetstone, PFC Faria, PFC Whetstone, and PFC Boone jumped in on the volleyball team along with SSG Hayes to help out TF Wolfpack and lead the team to the semifinals. SSG Hayes, SPC Carroll, SPC Johnson, PV2 Ellis and SGT Stallworth wrapped up the teams by leading the TF Wolfpack’s basketball team to the semifinals. While the rest of the Lonewolves supported from the sidelines.

Finally, the company would like to say goodbye to the following Soldiers: SGT Osborn and SGT Gourneau. We would like to thank them for their service and wish them all the best in their future endeavors.
