Large-scale, long-term randomized parallel intervention study

The study will compare the effect of a diet enriched in macadamia nuts versus a control diet (e.g. low fat diet) on insulin resistance and insulin secretion in individuals with insulin resistance and to assess the effect of macadamia nut consumption on lipid profile (Total cholesterol, LDL cholesterol, HDL cholesterol and triglycerides), and other emergent risk factors of cardiovascular risk e.g. inflammation, oxidative stress markers etc. It will include an evaluation of the effects of macadamia nut consumption on central obesity and body composition.
