Our Christmas function rounded off President Mel’s first 6 months in
office in style. 65 members, partners and guests enjoyed a festive
evening in the garden bar of the Cashmere Club. A splendid buffet
meal was punctuated with carol singing, timely announcements and
spontaneous moments of mirth.
Congratulations must go to District Governor elect Sarita McLean, on
receipt of a Paul Harris fellowship. Sarita was genuinely moved by
the award and wore her medallion with great pride.
President Elect Keith Gunasekara, announced that President Elect
Nominee is Kimberley Tanner. Kim therefore will be our President
for 2018/2019.
It was also announced that the Board has been advised by Robin Redpath that with much regret, she wishes
to resign from Rotary. The Boards response was to, rather than accept Robin’s resignation, Robin has been
made an honorary member of the Club. Great news indeed.
Preceding these key moments, President Mel presented his six monthly report. Such was the content, we
could have been forgiven for thinking this was Mel’s end of year report. It has indeed been a busy half year
for our Club.
Other highlights of the evening included the cutting of one of Helen McKessar’s 20 (!!!) Christmas cakes by
1st Lady Beverley; the presentation of first and second prizes in the "guess the key ingredient" in the
brilliantly disguised walnut-as-Christmas-pud competition; and the winning of the Christmas raffle by
President Elect Keith’s wife and soon to be "1st Lady" Vayomi.
Those who attended, including District Governor Ari and wife Janice and Assistant District Govermeor
BarbarabCrooks, enjoyed a great evening as we look forward to part two of President Mel’s Rotary year.
