Inauguration of Kaziranga Study Centre
The Kaziranga Study Centre was inaugurated by none other than the Forest
Man of India Padma Shree Jadav Payeng on 17th February, 2017. During his
inaugural speech he urged all to think about the future of mankind, the value of the
nature and its conservation and his entire journey of protection of biodiversity.
Global tiger day at J.D.S.G. College
With a day long programme The Global Tiger Day was observed in the
auspices of Kaziranga National Park, World Wildlife Fund and in association with
Kaziranga Study Centre, J.D.S.G. College and Bhoomi at JDSG College, Bokakhat
on 29th of July, 2017. The programme was inaugurated by Sri Dhiraj Das, Sub-
Divisional Officer (Civil), Bokakhat Sub-Division. Then Sri Ruhini Ballave Saikia,
Divisional Forest Officer, Eastern Assam Wildlife Division, graced the occasion
with his valuable speech on tiger protection and reserve. Lectures were also
delivered by Sri Jitu Sarma Rajkhowa, President, All Assam Journalist
Association, Sri Bhabananda Kalita, eminent journalist of Bokakhat and Sri Kamal
Gogoi, Academic Adviser, J.D.S.G. College, Bokakhat. The lectures were
followed by two technical sessions on various issues relating to tiger and its
conservation. In the first session, Sri Tridip Sharma from WWF delivered his
lecture as the resource person. Then in the second session, Sri Rabindra Sarma,
Research Officer, Kaziranga National Park delivered his lecture on many issues
relating to tiger. The programme was attended by many eminent litterateur from
bokakhat, journalists, media persons, teachers, RTI and social activists, general
public, students, etc.
Then after the two technical sessions, a quiz competition on Wildlife was
organized. Sri Uttam Saikia, Honourary Warden, KNP conducted the quiz
competition as Quiz Master. The 1st, 2nd and 3rd positions were awarded by the
organizing committee. The programme came to an end with vote of thanks from
Sri Sasanka Dhaval Saikia, Assistant Professor in Political Science and
Coordinator, Kaziranga Study Centre, J.D.S.G. College.

An Interactive Session with Prasanta Kumar Bordoloi
“Voice for Conservation” an interactive session with Prasanta Kumar Bordoloi
noted Wildlife Documentary filmmaker was organized by Wildlife Trust of India
in collaboration with Kaziranga Study Centre, J.D.S.G. College, Bokakhat on 27th
February, 2017 at the college premises. First of all the guests were felicitated by
WTI and Kaziranga Study Centre. Dr. Jayanta Gogoi. Principal, J.D.S.G. College
delivered the welcome address. Then Resource person Prasanta Kumar Bordoloi
delivered his lecture on wildlife and its conservation. This was followed by an
interactive session. All present in the seminar including teaching staff and students
of the college, press personnel of local dailies and news channels, members of
organizations like WTI, the Corbett Foundation, etc. interacted with the resource
person. At the end Sasanka Dhaval Saikia, Coordinator of the centre offered the
vote of thanks.

National Seminar on “Emerging Issues of Bio-diversity and
Its Conservation: With Special Reference to NE India”
A National Seminar on “Emerging Issues of Bio-diversity and Its
Conservation: With Special Reference to NE India” was organized by Kaziranga
Study Centre, J.D.S.G. College, Bokakhat in association with KNP, Aaranyak, The
Corbett Foundation and WTI on 29th and 30th June, 2017 at the college premises.
The inaugural session got a positive beginning with lit of earthen lamp by Sri
Akhil Boruah, President, Governing body, J.D.S.G. College. Then the college
anthem was performed by students under the guidance of Sri Atul Bezboruah,
Associate Professor in Commerce. Then the invited guests were felicitated by the
organizing committee. The inaugural session was presided over by Sri Akhil
Boruah. Then Dr. Jayanta Gogoi delivered the welcome address to the
distinguished guests. The Seminar was inaugurated by Dr. Satyendra Singh,
Director, KNP. After that Sri Ruhini Ballave Saikia, DFO, EAWD, Dr. Bibhav
Talukdar, Secretary General, Aaranyak, Dr. Naveen Pandey, Deputy Director, The
Corbett Foundation delivered their valuable lecture. Then Professor Parimal
Chandra Bhattacharya, Vice Chairman, WTI and Member, National Biodiversity
Board delivered the Key Note Address. He highlighted many key issues relating to
biodiversity and conservation in India. The inaugural session came to an end with
vote of thanks from Sri Sasanka Dhaval Saikia, Coordinator, Kaziranga Study
Centre and National Seminar. The session was anchored by Dr. Rubi Borah,
Associate Professor in Assamese and Dr. Monalisa Borgohain, Assistant Professor
in English, J.D.S.G. College.
The first technical session was chaired by Prof. Parimal Chandra
Bhattacharya. Dr. Naveen Pandey graced the session as Resource Person. Dr. Rubi
Borah acted as the session coordinator of that particular session. Sri Bichitra Hira,
Assistant Prof. in Economics and Miss Moitrayee Goswami, Assistant Prof. in
Philosophy rendered their service as rapporteurs.
The second technical session was chaired by Sri Gopikananda Saikia,
Associate Professor in History, J.D.S.G. College. Sri Rabindra Sarma, Research
Officer, KNP was present on the occasion as the resource person. Sri Shyamal
Duwarah, Assistant Prof. in Computer Science and Moitrayee Goswami were the
two rapporteurs. Academics, researchers, journalists, students, etc. from various
parts of NE participated in the seminar and presented their papers.
On the final day, the valedictory session was chaired by Sri Akhil Boruah.
Then the certificates were distributed among the paper presenters. The session
came to an end with vote of thanks by Sri Sasanka Dhaval Saikia.
Lecture programme with students from Guwahati College
As part of the students and teachers academic exchange programme with
Guwahati College, Guwahati, a lecture programme on “Kaziranga National Park:
Key Issues” was organized by Kaziranga Study Centre at Video Conferencing
Room, J.D.S.G. College, Bokakhat. The programme got a grand opening with the
inaugural speech by Dr. Jayanta Gogoi, Principal, J.D.S.G. College. His speech
mainly focused on the various burning questions relating to the National Park.
Then Sri Rabindra Sarma, Research Officer, KNP delivered his lecture on the topic
“KNP and Key Issues”. His speech was followed by an interactive session with
students of Guwahati College. After the session, another resource person Sri Uttam
Saikia, Honourary warden, KNP also delivered lecture mainly focusing on the
menace of poaching in KNP. The programme came to an end with vote of thanks
by Sri Sasanka Dhaval Saikia, Coordinator, Kaziranga Study Centre, J.D.S.G.
College, Bokakhat.

Two day Orientation Camp
A two day Orientation Camp for students was organized by the Kaziranga
Study Centre, J.D.S.G. College, Bokakhat at the college premises on 9th and 10th
December, 2016.. During those two days students were acquainted with various
issues of wildlife protection and its importance and techniques related with wildlife
and its protection. The camp was inaugurated by Dr. Jayanta Gogoi, Principal,
J.D.S.G. College. As many as four technical sessions were held in those two days
including an extra practical session on how to make a tent while camping in the
wild. Sri Rabindra Sarma, Research Officer, Kaziranga National Park delivered his
lecture on Kaziranga National Park and various issues as resource person. Sri
Uttam Saikia, Honourary Warden, Kaziranga National Park also spoke as a
resource person and his speech was mainly on one horned rhinocerous and various
issues related with it. Dr. Rathin Barman, Deputy Director, Wildlife Trust of India
also spoke on the occasion. In the 2nd day I.e. on 10th December, 2016 two sessions
on various techniques of wildlife trekking and wildlife photography were delivered
by Mr. Arif Hussain from Aaranyak and Sri Subhomoy Bhattacharjee from WTI.
Lastly students were provided the techniques of camping in the wild Sri Uttam
Saikia and Arif Hussain.

World Environment Day, 2017
Along with the world, the Kaziranga Study Centre, J.D.S.G. College,
Bokakhat observed world environment day on 5th June, 2017 at the college
premises. On the occasion tree sapling were planted at very parts of the college.
Dr. Jayanta Gogoi, Principal addressed the students, teachers and office staff
present on the occasion. He emphasized the importance of trees and its role in
biodiversity conservation. He also planted a tree sapling to observe the day. Other
teaching, non-teaching staff and students too planted tree saplings.
