ry community as their new Head Football Coach. It is apparent that moving forward in a positive direction is of the utmost impor-tance to the school system and community alike. It is a great opportunity for my family to get back closer to the greater Baton Rouge area as well as the chance to coach in a place that is com-mitted to excellence,” Brewerton said of the decision.

“I am so excited for Coach Brewerton, the Zachary football team and the entire community. Coach Brewerton brings the ex-perience and passion that will take this program to the next lev-el. We look forward to an excit-ing future.

Coach Brewerton will meet with his new team, the Zachary community and members of the press today at 4 p.m. in Bronco Team meeting room of the Aca-demic Athletic Center.

“I would like to thank Li-vonia High School and Pointe Coupee Parish for giving me the opportunity to be a head coach. I think because the school board and school administration were all on the same page, we were able to accomplish some great things together. Livonia High School will always be a special place to me. I wish them only the best,” Brewerton said.

Coach Brewerton replaces Neil Weiner who earlier this year, announced he would be leaving to accept a position at Dunham High School in the fall.

Sharon Dunnehoo is in her 2nd year of attendance at Hartwick College in New York. She spent the month of January on a study abroad in Madagascar. This biology study gave her the opportunity to experience the sights and sounds few have had. Madagas-car with its rainforests and coastlines was a fascinating place. The people, the plants, and the animals she met on her camping and backpacking tour of the island made it a trip to remember. The baobabs (trees) were breathtaking. Since French is the primary language, talking with the locals was challenging and funny with their broken English and her broken French. Her favorite part was of course Lemur Island.Sharon attended Zachary area schools before graduating from LSMSA (Louisiana School for Math, Science and the Arts) in Natchitoches, LA. Along with other accom-plishments, she is a member of Sigma Alpha Iota and has been on the Dean’s List at Hartwick College since her first semester. Her proud parents are Donna Dunnehoo of Zachary and David Dunnehoo of Clinton.

Zachary Arts Council presents Claire Mashburn Grooms and Dr. Henry Jones in ConcertRACZ, the Regional Arts Coun-

cil of Zachary, proudly presents Claire Mashburn Grooms, a master flutist, who will perform a concert on March 14th in the sanctuary of the Plains Presbyterian Church at 6:00 pm. Grooms, who graduated from Zachary High School in 2006, has since earned degrees from LSU and the University of Texas in flute. She has performed at Oxford for the Flute Summer School and other prestigious venues. Grooms’ musi-cal ability will astound the most mu-sically perceptive listener.

Dr. Henry Jones, an associate professor of piano at Southeastern Louisiana University, is also per-forming. After graduating cum laude from Yale University in 1978, Dr. Jones had a free-lance vocal coach and accompanist in New York City for ten years, during which time his credits include accompanying choral performances at Carnegie Hall and Lincoln Center, vocal recitals at Lin-coln Center, a performance at Madi-

son Square Garden, and Broadway and Off-Broadway shows, including Evita, Jerome Robbins’ Broadway, and The Fantasticks. He received his D.M.A. in piano (1994) from Louisiana State University in Baton

Rouge. Dr. Jones is currently teach-ing piano and related subjects at Southeastern Louisiana University.

RACA is devoted to bring fine arts to the Zachary community and will also present the Bergsma Trio

Zachary Boys Basketball Nips Walker at the Buzzer for Late Season Victory

The Zachary Broncos and their fans were in high spirits Friday as they witnessed their basketball squad make a last second shot to down the visiting Walker Wildcats, 48-46 in a league bout. With the win, Zachary upgrades its record to 10-15 on the season. The Broncos then traveled to Denham Springs on Tuesday, February 18 to play the Yellowjackets in a 5A District 4 bout. The Bronco’s left there with a 52-39 win. Photos by Sharron Ventura.

Motivational Speaker Ryan Lowe Addresses Zachary ChamberBy James Ronald skains

Ryan C. Lowe, a South Louisi-ana native who is now a resident of Slidell, showcased the theme of his new book, Get Off Your Attitude, in a presentation to the Zachary Cham-ber of Commerce at the noon lun-cheon on February 5, 2014.

“Success is something everyone is searching for, but they have great difficulty finding it,” Lowe pointed out. Lowe has coined some of his nuggets of wisdom as, “GOYA-ism. “In my book, I challenge you in key areas that affect your daily life. I’ll challenge you to think about your beliefs and attitudes and help you examine how they affect your life. The key areas of your life that my book helps you examine are: your relationships, your dreams, your

time, your past, your present, your faith, your health, your finances, your gratefulness, and your giving back.”

“I was amazed as I was writing this book at how many GOYA-ism developed about attitude,” Lowe told the Zachary Post during a short discussion after his presentation. “I’ve included in my book the mem-orable quote by Henry Ford who said: “Whether you think you can or think you can’t, you’re right.”

Lowe introduces each of the 12 chapters in his book with a quote from a well-known individual. For instance he begins Chapter 1 (Choose to Be Positive) with the quote from Henry Ford. Chapter 2 (Soar with the Eagles) is introduced by Charles Prestwich Scott who said: “Eagles come in all shapes and sizes, but you

recognize them chiefly by their at-titudes.”

Chapter 3 (Dream Out Loud) be-gins with a quote from Les Brown: “Too many of us are not living our dreams because we are living our fears.” Chapter 4 (Get On With It) with the world famous quote by Benjamin Franklin: “Lost time is never found again.” Lowe begins the next chapter with an unusual phrase: “Get Past Your Past”. His quotation is from a fellow motiva-

tional speaker, Julio Melara: “Leave the past. Engage the present. Create the future.”

Lowe defines the word “Atti-tude” in his book as: Always Take the Initiative To Uncover Daily En-thusiasm (A-T-T-I-T-U-D-E). In his book, Lowe tells us that you will learn the following by reading his book; *Engage in Positive relation-ships, *Smile at adversity, *Passion-

ately pursue your dreams, *Be cou-rageous and have faith, *Live in the now and forget the past, *Be grateful and give back. Rayan poses the ques-tion; What’s your attitude got to do with anything? His answer is: EV-ERYTHING!!

Lowe begins Chapter 6 with a well-known Dale Carnegie truism: “The expression one wears on one’s face is for more important than the clothes one wears on one’s back.” Ancient philosopher Cicero intro-duces the next chapter “Act in Faith” with his age old truism: “A man of courage is also full of faith.”

Chapter 8 is about health: “Have a Wealth of Health.” Lowe uses Ralph Waldo Emerson’s well known quote: “The first wealth is health,” to be-gin the chapter. In chapter 9, Lowe focuses our attitude on m-o-n-e-y! – “Make Money, Do Good” He recalls what Billy Graham has written about attitude and money: “If a person gets his attitude toward money straight, it will help straighten out most every other area in his life.”

Brian Tracy, author of Million Dollar Habits, has this to say about Lowe’s book: “Your ability to be pos-itive and constructive toward your-

self, your experiences, and your fu-ture can change your life – and this book shows you how to do it.”

Lowe devotes the last three chapters of his book to things that we know are important, but we don’t always do such as saying thank you. Motivational speaker Zig Ziglar said many times, “That of all the attitudes we can acquire, surely the attitude of gratitude is the most important and by far the most life-changing.”

Chapter 11 of Lowe’s book is particularly poignant. He titled it, “Be Someone’s Miracle,” and intro-duces it with a quote from Elizabeth David: “Everyday holds the pos-sibility of a miracle.” In Chapter 12,”Make It Happen,’’ Lowe sum-marizes the GOYA-isms in his book by stating: “You have the power to change your habits, your life, and your destiny. It starts with the posi-tive choice to get off your attitude.”

One of the real true gems in Lowe’s must read book, is found on page 137 where he reveals a quote by Jim Rohn: “Formal education will make you a living. Self-educa-tion will make you a fortune.”

Lowe dedicated his book to his grandmother, Lulei Ahten who lived from 1919 to 1988. Lowe says this about his grandmother. “Her words

of wisdom, her compassion and de-votion to those she loved, I will pass along to future generations.”

Ryan C. Lowe is president of Get Off Your Attitude Seminars based in New Orleans. Lowe defines his mission as spreading his positive attitude: success isn’t determined by background, experience, or any-thing else. It’s all in your attitude. Ryan inspires, motivates, and en-courages others to believe they,

too, can “get off their attitude” and achieve the life they’ve envisioned

Sound Wisdom of Shippensburg, Pennsylvania, publishes Lowe’s book.

Writer’s note: It is a tribute to the “attitude” of the Zachary Chamber to bring in such speakers as Ryan Lowe to engage its members to en-gage the future of Zachary with pos-itive attitude.
