he controversial Rocky Park Integrated Housing TDevelopment has had

people promising to eat their shoes if it took off. The guy who said it was caught between a rock and a hard place.

It took angry Rocky Park residents protesting via a burning tyre b lockade , to ge t the KwaDukuza Municipality Mayor, Councillor Ricardo Mthembu with his Municipal Manager and

executive committee to listen and chart a way forward.

Most of KwaDukuza need to know that the three tier pricing on the whole housing development also came with stipulations and criteria all their own.

It was just after elections 2011, that Ward 19 residents were asked to attend meetings in order for SIMSI under the auspices of KDM, to add their names to a waiting list for low cost housing or CRUs.

Simsi Project Manager, Moreri silenced Rocky Park residents

when she revealed that they "failed" to produce proper documents and in some cases no documents.

There was a change of plans in increasing the amount of Community Residential Units (CRU) by KDM in a proposal to the KwaZulu-N a t a l D e p a r t m e n t o f Housing. However, Minister Ravi Pillay, put a halt to that.

Violent protests erupted in Isithebe on Sunday night and continued to wreak havoc on Monday and Tuesday, 7 and 8 March 2016 respectively when vehicles were set alight, factories petrol-bombed and buildings stoned.

According to KZN SAPS Media Liaisons Officer, Major Thulani Zwane, the protests turned violent when four factories, a truck, two vehicles and five containers were set alight.

A 30-year-old man died after falling off a moving bakkie on the M4 south between Sibaya and Umhlanga on Saturday.

“The people in the area want the Induna re-instated. Apart from this, they are also protesting about a lack of service delivery in Ward 10,”

said Naidoo.She added that the chaos

caused by the protest has hampered the daily lives of people in the area.

“Commuters are unable to go to work. This problem needs to be solved amicably, w i thou t h inde r ing the functioning of society,” she said.

T h e K w a Z u l u - N a t a l Provincial Commissioner, L i e u t e n a n t G e n e r a l M m a m o n n y e N g o b e n i condemned the violent protests which resulted in factories and vehicles being

set alight. “Violence during protest action will not be tolerated. The police have a responsibility to protect property and lives during these violent protes ts . Members of the community are warned that we will execute our constitutional mandate and perpetrators of such violent protests will be arrested and prosecuted,” she said.

The owners of existing factories in the area have warned residents that if they continue to damage property, they will relocate.

17 injured in Shakashead crash

Seventeen people were injured when a taxi overturned on the N2 in Shakashead on Friday, 4 March 2016.

According to Chris Botha of Netcare, paramedics arrived at the scene and found that the twisted frame of the vehicle had come to rest in the centre median.

“The injured had clambered from the wreckage some with the help of other commuters. After the injured were examined, medics established that six people had sustained serious injuries while eleven miraculously escaped with minor injuries,” said Botha.

He added that medics treated the injured at the scene before they transported them to various hospitals for the care that they required.

“Exact detail to the cause of the crash and preceding events will remain a subject for the South African Police to investigate,” he said.

Child Welfare launches Project L³

The Chi ld Welfare SA: KwaDukuza Society's inaugural launch of the innovat ive fundraiser, Project L³ or Live, Love and Learn took place at Sibaya Casino and Entertainment Kingdom on Wednesday, 2 March 2015.

This event was attended by approximately 250 guests i n c l u d i n g o t h e r w e l f a r e organizations, schools and business houses. This historic event was hosted and sponsored by Vivien Reddy - patron of CWSA: KwaDukuza.

The people are angry and frustrated for various reasons. There is a great demand for low-cost housing in KDM and there is a backlog in d e l i v e r y . O u rmunicipality needs to prioritize its needs and concentrate on service delivery. Our country ispresently experiencing an economic depression. Therefore, all major proposed developments eg, the building of a shopping mall and the relocation of the Civic Centre should be put on hold. Winning weekend for iLembeiLembe Cricket Club had an

excellent winning weekend when they recorded a double victory in the KZN Cricket Union 50 over Challenge League (Division I) fixtures played.

On Saturday, iLembe took on the formidable DHS Rhythm in front of their home crowd at the Stanger Country Club. iLembe batted first and posted an impressive 265/8 in their allotted 50 overs. The pick of the batters for iLembe was I. Sher who top scored with 69. He shared in an incredible partnership with R. Singh scoring 103 with Singh

Indian national Sagar Arora and T a q u e e r M a l i k f r o m Dawnheights showed sheer class when they led the way to a psychological 85 run victory over their arch rivals, Manor A in an iLembe District Cricket Union 50 over league game played at an unmarked Gledhow field over the weekend. To add to the woes, no umpires were available on the field but this did not take away the shine from Arora and Malik.

Dawnheights batted first and were bowled out for a paltry 176 in 30 overs. Arora shone with the

notching up 30 not out. Z. Ali recorded a half century (50) whilst A. Nadasen contributed 29 with the bat. S. Khan from DHS picked up 3 wickets for 26 runs from 9 overs whilst P. Vezi contributed 2 wickets for 17 runs from 5 overs.

In reply, DHS could took up the challenge but fell short by 16 runs in their 50 overs scoring 249/9. T h e r e w e r e s i g n i f i c a n t contributions from the bat with P. Joshi scoring 56, D. Hobd (40), R.

Sanders (40) D. Vidzai (36) and S. Dayar (34). The run chase proved vial but DHS shot themselves in the foot dropping vital wickets at crucial times. This was however due to the formidable bowling by the iLembe bowlers. The toast of the iLembe bowlers was A. Sarwar who got a fiver picking up 5 wickets for 43 runs from 10 overs

bat 4 massive sixes and 8 boundaries on his way to his maiden century scoring 107. The only other batsmen to reach double figures were Arun Kumar (35) and Zain Hoosen (11). M. Logenathan was in devastating form picking up 5 wickets for 37 runs from 10 overs. He was ably assisted by R. Muslango claiming 2 and D. Pillay one.

Needing just 3.52 runs for victory, the odds were with Manor to pull off a victory but Malik had other ideas up his sleeves. He bowled with venom claiming 5

wickets for a miserly 12 runs in 9 overs, the best bowling figures thus far. He tore through thebatsmen who had no idea on how to play him. Man of the match, Arora also got into the action taking 3 scalps for 27 runs whilst Keane Govender contributed 2 wickets. Despite some wayward bowling by some Dawnheights bowlers conceding the highest score (extras 23), Manor were bowled out for 91 runs in the 40th over. C. Pillay scored 21, R. Singh18 and Akshay 14 were the onlyscores of note for Manor.

Confidence was high in the iLembe camp after that crucial victory when they took on Railways on Sunday at the Country Club Grounds. iLembe amassed 311/8 in their allotted 50 overs with B. Ismail in scintillating form. He

hit 11 fours and 3 towering sixes on his way to his first century in the season scoring 109. I. Mahomed joined in the scoring feast hitting 54 whilst Z. Ali (40) and Aaron Pillay (26) all contributing to this huge total. The pick of the bowlers for Railways was K. Armugam for claimed 4 wickets for 38 runs from 6 overs whilst J. Hussain claimed 2 scalps for 41 runs from 8 overs.

In reply, Railways were bundled out for 233 runs in 38.4 overs

giving iLembe a massive 78 runs victory. A. Nohari was in prolific form scoring 100 that i n c l u d e d 1 3boundaries and 5 sixes. The batsmen that contr ibuted were T. Pillay (59) and S. Nohari (32). All the bowlers of iLembe contributed with the ball with Alex Pillay claiming 3/41 from 7 overs, A. Sarwar 2/35 from 4 overs and Aaron Pillay 2/40 from 10 overs.
