Materials:• gameboard
• 1 picture spinner and 1 number spinner
• 1 marker for each player (coins, buttons, etc.)
Directions:1. Print one copy of the gameboard
2. Decide which player goes first.
3. The first player spins the picture spinner and says the name of the picture

132
Number of players: 3
Materials: • 44 playing cards
Directions:1. Print one copy of the cards.
2. Mix the cards and give four to each player. Set the rest of the stack face
down. Decide which player goes first.
3. Before play begins, players look for pairs of rhyming words or pairs of
rhyming picture names in their hands. If they have any pairs, they place
them face up and take cards to replace them.
4. The first player chooses another player and asks him or her for a rhyming
match to a card in his or her hand: “Give me a word that rhymes with fall”
or “Give me a picture whose name rhymes with bell.” If the player receives a
matching card, he or she places the pair face up and goes again. If the other
player does not have the requested card, that player says “Go fish.” The
first player takes a card from the stack and his or her turn is over.
5. Play continues around the circle until one player runs out of cards.
6. Each pair is worth one point. The first player to run out of cards gets one
bonus point. The player with the most points wins the game.

Materials:• gameboard
• spinner
• 1 marker for each player (coins, buttons, etc.)
Directions:1. Print one copy of the gameboard.
2. Decide which player goes first.
3. The first player spins and moves the number of spaces shown on the
spinner. The player reads the word in the space where he or she lands. The
player must say two words that rhyme with the word in the space in order
to place a marker on the space. If the player can only think of one word, he
or she puts a marker on the space behind the one he or she landed on. If
the player cannot think of any rhyming words or says a word that does not
rhyme, he or she goes back to his or her last space.
4. The next player spins, moves the correct number of spaces, and reads the
word in the space where he or she lands. The player then puts a marker in
the correct space depending on the number of rhyming words he or she
comes up with. Encourage players not to use the same rhyming word for
more than one turn. Play continues until someone reaches the end of the
path. The first person to reach the end is the winner.
Variation: Make the game more challenging. After placing their marker on a space, have
players think of a sentence using one of the rhyming words they came up with.

EELN Sort 12: Rhyming Sort Pairs 2 4
Number of players: 2
Materials:• gameboard
• 18 cards
• pencils
Directions:1. Print one copy of the gameboard and cards.
2. Mix the cards and give nine cards to each player. Have each player write his
or her name on each of the cards. Then have players set their stack of nine
cards face down.
3. The first player takes a card from his or her stack and reads the color aloud.
The player then finds a rhyming word on the gameboard and covers it with
the card. If the player cannot find a rhyming word or chooses a word that
does not rhyme with the word on the card, he or she cannot put a card on
the board. Have the player place the card face down at the bottom of the
stack in such a case.
4. The next player takes a card, reads the word, and places the card over a
word that rhymes on the gameboard. Play continues with each player
drawing one card per turn.
5. When all spaces are covered, have players count the cards with their names
on them. The player who has the most cards on the board wins.

Materials:• 1 game card for each player
• 9 markers (coins, buttons, etc.) for each player
• 36 playing cards
Directions:1. Shuffle the playing cards, and stack them facedown. Choose a player to go

the letter is found more than once on the game card, players should cover
only one of the spaces in which the letter appears.
3. Players take turns drawing cards and calling names. The winner is the first
