Writing Proficiency Policy Accepted CNYMPH students will have their proficiency in writing assessed. The written work submitted with the application (personal statement and public health essay) will be submitted to Syracuse University’s Writing Center for assessment by an independent editor. If this review suggests that focused work on writing skills is indicated, a personalized plan will be developed according to the procedure below. Procedure: The Syracuse University Writing Center is the vehicle through which the writing assessment and support will be coordinated. The CNYMPH program will submit the personal statement and public health essay that was included as part of the application to the SU Writing Center for evaluation. The Writing Center will provide a summary of findings to the CNYMPH Program Office, including a list of students who would benefit by additional writing support and the particular issues identified. Students who would benefit by additional support will be notified and recommended to contact the writing center to develop an individualized plan. A copy of the plan will be filed in the student’s record. Professional writing is expected in course assignments. Grades will reflect writing competency.
