2020 Education Week AwardsThis week I was honoured to present, on behalf of our Director Educational Leadership (Mr Peter Campbell), the 2020 Education Week Awards to recipients of our school. Of all the nominations submitted across the Lennox Coast Network, our school had four recipients. Ilah Gardiner and Zac O’Rourke from our student body, Mrs Ilana Conte from our staff, along with Ms Amanda Pearce from our parent and community base, were successful recipients of Education Week Awards in 2020.
Congratulations to all four award winners. We are blessed to have such worthy representatives in and across our school community
COVID-19 UpdateThis week, the Department of Education has strengthened the requirements of schools in responding to COVID-19 across NSW. There has been plenty of media attention given to the enhanced requirements and further restrictions facing schools, students and communities. These are operational guidelines that school are required to follow.
The nature of the enhanced guidelines means we will not proceed with our school cross country this week, but will still allow students to dress in house colours.
It is imperative that we are all aware of the new

requirement for staff and students to undertake a COVID test, await a negative clearance and to provide evidence of such before returning to school if you experience any flu-like symptoms. Staff and/or students who display symptoms while at school should leave the site immediately (or as soon as possible) and not return until COVID-19 cleared.
Students who return to school without a clearance are to be segregated and parents contacted to take students home until evidence of a clearance is provided to school.
This is a significant change in expectation and will have an impact on staff and students going forward.
Management of COVID matters for students of our school will be managed through the school office.

SENTRAL Parent Portal and APP
Whilst our school continues to use our Facebook page, our Sentral APP is the best process for future distribution and return of school documentation. Please consider getting active in this space.
Before and After School CareOur school recently published an Expression of Interest in Before and After School Care. A copy of the EOI is available from our Facebook page or can be requested by phoning the school.
At this stage, very few responses have been received. Serious consideration will only be considered if we have significantly more interest in all before and after school sessions across the week. Unless a service can be financially sustainable, further consideration for 2021 will not proceed.
If you are interested, please submit an EOI before the end of AUGUST so a valid decision can be made.
School SecurityPlease remain vigilant of our school outside school hours and report any security concerns to the School Security Unit on 1300 880 021. Our school buildings should not be accessed outside school hours unless there is an agreement in place.

Zac O’Rourke and The Ickabog by J.K Rowling
J.K. Rowling invited budding young artists between the ages of 7 to 12 years old to illustrate The Ickabog, for the once in a lifetime chance to be featured in The Ickabog book, which will be published on 10 November 2020.
Zac was one of 18,000 children who submitted illustrations. He submitted a few illustrations and was so excited to have one shortlisted. As a runner-up prize, he’ll receive a copy of the book when published, as well as a certificate.
Zac is writing a novel at the moment, and loves to create new characters. He has illustrations for the book too. In his spare time, he’s usually found with a pencil in hand, adding to his book, or to his collection of illustrations.
Congratulations Zac!
