Shane’s SimplicitiesP&C Update

The Annual General Meeting of our school’s P&C Association was held this past Monday and on behalf of the school community I congratulate and thank both incoming and outgoing executive officers. The new executive for 2012 is as follows:

President – Kazmin Humphris

Secretary – Kylie Elliott

Treasurer – Donna Trustum

Vice President – Alison Jarrett

Leaving our school P&C Executive after his term in office was Phil Mitchell. I wish to thank Phil for his contribution as past president. Phil’s presence (another male at these meetings) and his commitment to our Bunning’s BBQs will be treasured memories.

is a united force as we are nominated as a joint team with Coraki PS. In recent years we have found that we were entering a team that was becoming younger and younger, but we were still competing against teams that were made up of primarily Year 6 or Year 5 students. The size of our student enrolments (and that of Coraki) allows us under PSSA rules to have a combined team. Our united force will take on Evans River K-12 Community School to see who progresses to the next round of the knock-out competition.

Our school netball team has been training in readiness for their clash. I congratulate all students for stepping up and having a go at these extra-curricular activities. I wish you all great success in these coming matches.

TechnologyRecent days here at school have made it abundantly clear how much we rely on technology to undertake our daily activities.

Our school network has been out of operation since Monday evening and we have really noticed the impact. Internet/email access is out, interaction between computers is hindered, school-wide printing unavailable and I am

sure teachers and students have encountered additional problems. Even as I type we do not know whether the newsletter will go to print today or not. I know that technology is a good thing, but wonder how much easier the world could be without it. Having real conversations, writing letters and reading from printed materials – oh, it feels like we are back in the 80s.

Until next week......

Term 1 Entertainment NightPut aside the evening of Thursday 29 March from 5.30 pm to 8.30 pm so you can come along and join us for the movie ‘Hop’. This was a great selection by students as we can now have

an Easter theme for dress up. Wear an old Easter hat or come along in bunny ears. For new families the cost is $5 per child or $12 per family, this includes a sausage sizzle, drinks and a treat. We also sell chips, fizzy drinks and the many yummies that come along on a plate for us on the night, so some spending money is advised. Looking forward to those creative plates already! Harmony DayIn 2012, the Harmony Day theme Sport - play, engage, inspire, recognises the important role and positive influence that sport has in our multicultural nation. The continuing message for Harmony Day in 2012 is that Everyone Belongs, which means all Australians are a welcome part of our country, regardless of their background. It’s a time to reflect on where Australia has come from, recognising the traditional owners of this land. It’s also about community participation, inclusiveness and respect – celebrating the different cultures that make Australia a great place to live. This year our school will be celebrating Harmony Day on Tuesday 20 March. Classes will be participating in activities based on this year’s theme. Students are encouraged to bring in a gold coin donation and wear orange on this day. All proceeds raised will be donated to Stewart House.Mrs ManderCoordinator
