Welcome to St Margaret’s Church IfieldSunday 3rd September 2017

Trinity 12

All are welcome to St Margaret’s and we encourage all to take part fully in this service. If you have mobility issues that make it difficult for you to

come and receive communion or laying-on-of-hands for healing, should you want to, then do please notify our sides-people, and we will come to you.

Please do stay for coffee served at the back of church after the service. There is a toilet at the back of church should you need to use it during the

service.

THE GATHERINGWe stand and sing:Hymn 841: Charles Wesley.

YE SERVANTS OF GOD, your Master proclaim, and publish abroad his wonderful name; the name all victorious of Jesus extol: his kingdom is glorious, and rules over all.

God ruleth on high, almighty to save; and still he is nigh: his presence we have: the great congregation his triumph shall sing, ascribing salvation to Jesus our King.

Salvation to God who sits on the throne! let all cry aloud, and honour the Son. The praises of Jesus the angels proclaim, fall down on their faces, and worship the Lamb.

‘Accept one another for the glory of God, as Christ has accepted you.’ (Romans 15:7)

Then let us adore, and give him his right: all glory and pow’r, all wisdom and might, and honour and blessing, with angels above, and thanks never-ceasing, and infinite love.

THE GREETING

Celebrant The Lord be with youAll and also with you

THE PRAYER OF PREPARATION

All Almighty God, to whom all hearts are open, all desires known, and from whom no secrets are hidden: cleanse the thoughts of our hearts by the inspiration of your Holy Spirit, that we may perfectly love you, and worthily magnify your holy name; through Christ our Lord. Amen.

PRAYERS OF PENITENCE

Celebrant Our Lord Jesus Christ said: The first commandment is this: ‘Hear, O Israel, the Lord our God is the only Lord. You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind, and with all your strength’. The second is this: ‘Love your neighbour as yourself’. There is no other commandment greater than these. On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets.

All Amen. Lord have mercy.

‘Accept one another for the glory of God, as Christ has accepted you.’ (Romans 15:7)

Celebrant God so loved the world that he gave his only Son Jesus Christ to save us from our sins, to be our advocate in heaven, and to bring us to eternal life.Let us confess our sins in penitence and faith, firmly resolved to keep God’s commandments and to live in love and peace with all.

All Most merciful God, Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, we confess that we have sinned in thought, word and deed. We have not loved you with our whole heart. We have not loved our neighbours as ourselves. In your mercy forgive what we have been, help us to amend what we are, and direct what we shall be; that we may do justly, love mercy, and walk humbly with you, our God. Amen

Celebrant Almighty God, who forgives all who truly repent, have mercy upon us, pardon and deliver us from all our sins, confirm and strengthen us in all goodness, and keep us in life eternal; through Jesus Christ our Lord.

All Amen.

Gloria in Excelsis A Gregory Murray, OSB 1905-1992©1975, 1987 McCrimmon Publishing Ltd

Glory to God in the highest, and peace to his people on earth.Lord God, heavenly King, almighty God and Father,we worship you, we give you thanks,we praise you for your glory.

‘Accept one another for the glory of God, as Christ has accepted you.’ (Romans 15:7)

Lord Jesus Christ, only Son of the Father,Lord God, Lamb of God, you take away the sin of the world: have mercy on us;you are seated at the right hand of the Father:receive our prayer. For you alone are the Holy One,you alone are the Lord, you alone are the Most High, Jesus Christ, with the Holy Spirit,in the glory of God the Father. Amen.

THE COLLECTCelebrant Almighty and everlasting God, you are always more

ready to hear than we to pray and to give more than either we desire or deserve: pour down upon us the abundance of your mercy, forgiving us those things of which our conscience is afraid and giving us those good things which we are not worthy to ask but through the merits and mediation of Jesus Christ your Son our Lord, who is alive and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen

Listen, Lord Jesus, I have pity too; let my care be active, healing just like you.

Jesus Christ is calling, calling in the streets, ‘Who will join my journey? I will guide their feet.’ Listen, Lord Jesus, let my fears be few; walk one step before me, I will follow you.

Celebrant Father, you made the world and love your creation. You gave your Son Jesus Christ to be our Saviour. His dying and rising have set us free from sin and death. And so we gladly thank you, with saints and angels praising you, and singing:

A Gregory Murray, OSB 1905-1992©1975, 1987 McCrimmon Publishing LtdAll Holy, holy, holy Lord, God of power and might,

Heaven and earth are full of your glory.‘Accept one another for the glory of God, as Christ has accepted you.’

(Romans 15:7)

Hosanna in the highest.Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord.Hosanna in the highest.

We praise and bless you, loving Father, through Jesus Christ, our Lord; and as we obey his command, send your Holy Spirit, that broken bread and wine outpoured may be for us the body and blood of your dear Son.

On the night before he died he had supper with his friends and, taking bread, he praised you. He broke the bread, gave it to them and said: Take, eat; this is my body which is given for you; do this in remembrance of me.

When supper was ended he took the cup of wine. Again he praised you, gave it to them and said: Drink this, all of you; this is my blood of the new covenant, which is shed for you and for many for the forgiveness of sins. Do this, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of me.

So, Father, we remember all that Jesus did, in him we plead with confidence his sacrifice made once for all upon the cross. Bringing before you the bread of life and cup of salvation, we proclaim his death and resurrection until he comes in glory.

Praise to you Lord Jesus:All Dying you destroyed our death,

Rising you restored our life:

‘Accept one another for the glory of God, as Christ has accepted you.’ (Romans 15:7)

Lord Jesus, come in glory.

Lord of all life, help us to work together for that daywhen your kingdom comes and justice and mercy will be seen in all the earth. Look with favour on your people, gather us in your loving arms and bring us with St Margaret and all the saints to feast at your table in heaven. Through Christ, and with Christ, and in Christ, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, all honour and glory are yours, O loving Father, for ever and ever.

All Amen.

The Lord’s PrayerAll Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name,

your kingdom come, your will be done,on earth as in heaven.Give us today our daily bread.Forgive us our sins,as we forgive those who sin against us.Lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For the kingdom, the power and the glory are yours now and forever. Amen.

The Breaking of the BreadThe Priest breaks the consecrated bread

We break this bread to share in the body of Christ. All Though we are many, we are one body,

because we all share in one bread.

The Giving of CommunionCelebrant He whom the universe could not contain is present to

us in this bread. He who redeemed us and called us by ‘Accept one another for the glory of God, as Christ has accepted you.’

(Romans 15:7)

name now meets us in this cup. So take this bread and this wine. In them God comes to us so that we may come to God.

We sing the Agnus Dei. A Gregory Murray, OSB 1905-1992©1975, 1987 McCrimmon Publishing Ltd

Lamb of God, you take away the sins of the world: have mercy on us. Lamb of God, you take away the sins of the world: have mercy on us. Lamb of God, you take away the sins of the world: grant us peace.

All are welcome to either come and receive Communion or a blessing. If you would like a blessing rather than to receive Communion (the bread and

wine) then please keep hold of your service sheet as you approach the servers at front of the church.

Laying on of hands for healing is offered in the south aisle chapel during the distribution of communion. This ministry is offered for your own

needs or for someone who maybe on your heart and mind at this time.

Those who are going into hospital in the coming week, or for some other reason, and who would like to be anointed with oil of healing and prayed for by a priest please do have a word with a priest after the service – they

will gladly offer you this ministry.

FATHER, HEAR THE PRAYER WE OFFER:not for ease that prayer shall be,

‘Accept one another for the glory of God, as Christ has accepted you.’ (Romans 15:7)

but for strength that we may everlive our lives courageously.

Not for ever in green pasturesdo we ask our way to be;but the steep and rugged pathwaymay we tread rejoicingly.

Not for ever by still waterswould we idly rest and stay;but would smite the living fountainsfrom the rocks along our way.

Be our strength in hours of weakness,in our wonderings be our guide;through endeavour, failure, danger,Father, be thou at our side.

The Prayers after CommunionCelebrant God of all mercy, in this Eucharist you have set aside

our sins and given us your healing: grant that we who are made whole in Christ may bring that healing to this broken world, in the name of Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

All Almighty God, we thank you for feeding us with the body and blood of your son Jesus Christ. Through him we offer you our souls and bodies to be a living sacrifice. Send us out in the power of your Spirit to live and work to your praise and glory. Amen

‘Accept one another for the glory of God, as Christ has accepted you.’ (Romans 15:7)

THE BLESSINGCelebrant The peace of God, which passes all understanding, keep

your hearts and minds, in the knowledge and love of God, and of his Son Jesus Christ our Lord; and the blessing of God almighty, the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, be among you and remain with you always. Amen.

Hymn 27:

Percy Dearmer. Copyright © Oxford University Press.

ALL WHO WOULD VALIANT BE, ‘gainst all disaster, let them in constancy follow their Master. There’s no discouragement shall make them once relent the first avowed intent to be a pilgrim.

Those who beset them round with dismal stories, do but themselves confound – their strength the more is. No foe shall stay their might though they with giants fight: they will make good the right to be pilgrim.

‘Accept one another for the glory of God, as Christ has accepted you.’ (Romans 15:7)

Since, Lord, thou dost defend us with thy Spirit, we know we at the end shall life inherit. Then fancies flee away, we’ll fear not what they say, we’ll labour night and day to be a pilgrim.

THE DISMISSALCelebrant We go into the world to walk in God’s light,

to rejoice in God’s love, and to reflect God’s glory.

Go in peace to love and serve the Lord. All In the name of Christ.
