Claretian Congregation On October 24, Fr. Lukose, our Pastor and Fr. James
Raphel from Holy Cross will be celebrating the Feast day of their religious Congregations‟ founder, St. Antony Mary Claret.
The Congregation of the Missionary Sons of the Immaculate Heart of Mary was founded by St. Antony Mary Claret in 1849 in Spain. The congregation is popularly known as Claretian missionaries.
Claret had a special devotion to Blessed Sacrament and to the Immaculate Heart of Mary. In 1850 he was appointed Archbishop of Santiago, Cuba. He worked there until his return to Spain in 1857 and started his mission of evangelization by making use of all the effective and timely means available for him. A man on fire with God's love, Claret embodied the special charisms of community, mission, evangelization and spirituality. He pioneered many Catholic Action movements for the social and moral uplifting of the ordinary people. He was persecuted and finally exiled from the country during the civil unrest in Spain. Claret died on the 24th of October 1870 at Fontfroide in France.
In 1950 Pope Pius X11 declared him as a Saint. Antony Claret is, in the words of His Holiness “a Saint for our age, a Saint for all ages”. More than 3000 Claretian priests and brothers form this community dedicated to evangelization around the world in 56 countries.
The Claretians are committed to seeing the world through the eyes of the poor. The service of the Word has become the priority of its members.
In Canada, the Claretian family is composed of Claretian Missionaries and Claretian Laity. To know more about the mission of Claretians visit the web site: www.claret.org To share the joy of this occasion, I invite all of you for a presentation of our mission for the lepers in India and a reception immediately after the 11.00 am Mass on Sunday October 23rd at the hall. Happy feast. God bless.
