Welcome school Therapist – Lindsey Shafto

My name is Lindsey and I am the school therapist at Canyon Park Middle School. I provide counseling to students and families who need support with difficult situations or who find themselves experiencing overwhelming and unmanageable feelings. My goal is for students to enhance their mental health as well as improve academic performance. Good mental health is so critical to a child’s progress in school and life!

I have experience providing therapy to children ranging in ages from preschool to young adulthood. I use a trauma-informed and client-centered approach and specialize in working with children that have not only experienced trauma, but also may suffer from grief, depression, and anxiety, to name a few. I believe it is essential for students and families to have a safe place to receive nonjudgmental support to take steps towards healing. I have a Master of Social Work from the University of Washington — Go Dawgs!

To receive individual counseling, a student is referred by their parent, teacher, or principal. Students can also request to see me. I am available during school hours Monday-Friday, please reach out to your child’s counselor to start the process. If you have any questions about services, please email me at [email protected].  Stay well. Lindsey Shafto, LSWAIC

 Attendance During Remote Learning

If your student will be absent during their scheduled class time, (synchronous learning) be sure to contact the CPMS attendance office as well as your student’s teachers. Let us know if your student will be able to complete the work at another time so their attendance record can be accurately recorded.

Daily Attendance is expected of all students.

Families will be notified in the evenings, through robocalls and emails, when a student is marked absent.  Families can also receive push notification through ParentVue as soon as their student is marked absent.  This feature can be turned off in ParentVue. Families are not notified when absences are cleared or changed though the updated attendance will be visible in ParentVue.

Teachers can update attendance for 3 class days (until after the next time the class meets) to allow for asynchronous learning.  If you believe your student was marked absent in error, please notify their teacher.

Parents/Guardians can excuse an absence by contacting the attendance office at [email protected] or (425) 408-6310.  Tardies/Late arrivals are not being recorded at this time.
