Welcome
Welcome to Redeemer Presbyterian Church! We are glad that you have
joined with us to worship God. Please stay after the service and
get to know others in our community who are calling Redeemer
Presbyteri- an Church “home.” If you have any questions about our
church, feel free to contact us using the infor- mation on the back
of the bulletin. When you arrive for worship, please observe
silence as you prepare to enter into God’s Divine Service.
Silence your cell phone, listen to the prelude, read the Words of
Preparation and the Scripture lessons in the
back of the bulletin, and join others in prayer and
meditation.
Our Worship
Our service is intentionally structured to reflect our belief that
worship is God’s service to us, his people.
By design, there are three parts to our worship: the Service of
Entrance, the Service of the Word, and the
Service of the Table.
The Service of Entrance begins when the choir sings the Introit,
followed by our Hymn of Invocation, Call
to Worship, and Prayer of Adoration. We will then join in a
Corporate Confession of Sin, hear God’s Dec-
laration of Absolution, and respond with the Gloria and Hymn of
Gratitude or Psalm.
The Service of the Word will include readings from the Lectionary
(a calendar-based system for reading
through the Bible) along with corporate responses of song and
prayer. The sermon is God’s Word to us and
we ask that you listen attentively, asking the Holy Spirit to apply
his Word to you in a particular way.
The Service of the Table begins with a Corporate Confession of
Faith, followed by the Passing of the
Peace, and the Collection of Tithes and Offerings. Our service
concludes with the Lord’s Supper and Bene-
diction. Our church partakes of the Lord’s Supper every week. We
welcome to the table all baptized Chris-
tians who are trusting in Christ alone for their salvation, have
made public profession of their faith, and are
part of a local church. We offer both wine and grape juice (located
in the center rings) in the communion
tray. Gluten-free bread is available from an elder at the front
during the Passing of the Peace. If you have
any questions, please speak with a pastor.
Your Children
We love kids! And we try to make them feel welcome during our
worship service. You can help your chil-
dren profit from the service by working through the bulletin with
them. If your child needs a break from the
service, please feel free to sit in the Narthex where you can still
hear the service. You can also take young
children to the Nursery. A private space is provided in the Nursery
for nursing mothers.

The Fourteenth Sunday After Pentecost
In Preparation
PRELUDE Michael Phillips
Voluntary – Thomas Tomkins (1572-1656)
Kyrie, Gott Vater in Ewigkeit, BWV 672 – J. S. Bach
(1685-1750)
O Lord, the Father for evermore! We thy wondrous grace adore; We
confess Thy power, all worlds upholding. Have mercy, Lord.
WORDS OF PREPARATION Psalm 119:129-136
Your decrees are wonderful; therefore I obey them with all my
heart.
When your word goes forth it gives light; it gives understanding to
the simple.
I open my mouth and pant; I long for your commandments.
Turn to me in mercy, as you always do to those who love your
Name.
Steady my footsteps in your word; let no iniquity have dominion
over me.
Rescue me from those who oppress me, and I will keep your
commandments.
Let your countenance shine upon your servant and teach me your
statutes.
My eyes shed streams of tears, because people do not keep your
law.
COLLECT OF THE DAY
Almighty God, your Son willingly endured the agony and shame of the
cross for our redemption. Grant us courage to take up our cross
daily and follow him wherever he leads; through the same Jesus
Christ, our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy
Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen.

The Service of Entrance
CHORAL INTROIT All Creatures of Our God and King – Daniel
Bird
All creatures of our God and King, lift up your voice and with us
sing. Alleluia. Thou burning sun with golden beam, thou silver moon
with softer gleam, Alleluia.
HYMN OF INVOCATION
Minister: Enter his gates with thanksgiving People: And come into
his courts with praise. Minister: Give thanks to the LORD and bless
his name People: For his steadfast love endures forever. Minister:
In the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.
People: Amen. Minister: Let us pray.
PRAYER OF ADORATION … world without end. Amen.
CONFESSION OF SIN
Minister: Hear what our Lord Jesus Christ says, “Do not think that
I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to
abolish them but to fulfill them. For truly, I say to you, until
heaven and earth pass away, not an iota, not a dot, will pass from
the Law until all is accomplished. Therefore whoever relaxes one of
the least of these commandments and teaches others to do the same
will be called least in the kingdom of heaven, but whoever does
them and teaches them will be called great in the kingdom of
heaven.”
Minister: Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayer. People: Almighty
and most merciful Father; we have erred, and strayed from thy ways
like lost sheep. We
have followed too much the devices and desires of our own hearts.
We have offended against thy holy laws. We have left undone those
things which we ought to have done; and we have done those things
which we ought not to have done; and there is no health in us. But
thou, O Lord, have mercy upon us, miserable offenders. Spare thou
those, O God, who confess their faults. Restore thou those who are
penitent; according to thy promises declared unto mankind in Christ
Jesus our Lord. And grant, O most merciful Father, for his sake;
that we may hereafter live a godly, righteous, and sober life, to
the glory of thy holy Name. Amen.
DECLARATION OF ABSOLUTION Minister: Hear the Word of the Gospel:
“Christ has died for our sins and been raised for our
justification.” All you
who repent of your sin and trust in the Lord Jesus Christ for your
salvation, rejoice and be glad and give glory to the Lord who has
taken away all of your sins in the name of the Father, and the Son,
and the Holy Spirit.

BENEDICTION
DEPARTING HYMN
LESSONS Psalm 119:129-136 Your decrees are wonderful;

oppress me,
and I will keep your commandments. Let your countenance shine upon
your servant
and teach me your statutes. My eyes shed streams of tears,
because people do not keep your law.
Deuteronomy 4:1-2, 6-9 “And now, O Israel, listen to the statutes
and the rules that I am teaching you, and do them, that you may
live, and go in and take possession of the land that the Lord, the
God of your fathers, is giving you. You shall not add to the word
that I command you, nor take from it, that you may keep the
commandments of the Lord your God that I command you. “Keep them
and do them, for that will be your wisdom and your understanding in
the sight of the peoples, who, when they hear all these statutes,
will say, ‘Surely this great nation is a wise and understanding
people.’ For what great nation is there that has a god so near to
it as the Lord our God is to us, whenever we call upon him? And
what great nation is there, that has statutes and rules so
righteous as all this law that I set before you today? “Only take
care, and keep your soul diligently, lest you forget the things
that your eyes have seen, and lest they depart from your heart all
the days of your life. Make them known to your children and your
children’s children.”
Mark 7:14-23 And he called the people to him again and said to
them, “Hear me, all of you, and understand: There is nothing
outside a person that by going into him can defile him, but the
things that come out of a person are what defile him.” And when he
had entered the house and left the people, his disciples asked him
about the parable. And he said to them, “Then are you also without
understanding? Do you not see that whatever goes into a person from
outside cannot defile him, since it enters not his heart but his
stomach, and is expelled?” (Thus he declared all foods clean.) And
he said, “What comes out of a person is what defiles him. For from
within, out of the heart of man, come evil thoughts, sexual
immorality, theft, murder, adultery, coveting, wickedness, deceit,
sensuality, envy, slander, pride, foolishness. All these evil
things come from within, and they defile a person.”
Sermon Lesson—Ephesians 5:1, 6:1-9 5:1Therefore be imitators of
God, as beloved children. 6:1Children, obey your parents in the
Lord, for this is right. 2 “Honor your father and mother” (this is
the first commandment with a promise), 3 “that it may go well with
you and that you may live long in the land.” 4 Fathers, do not
provoke your children to anger, but bring them up in the discipline
and instruction of the Lord. 5 Bondservants, obey your earthly
masters with fear and trembling, with a sincere heart, as you would
Christ, 6 not by the way of eye-service, as people-pleasers, but as
bondservants of Christ, doing the will of God from the heart, 7
rendering service with a good will as to the Lord and not to man, 8
knowing that whatever good anyone does, this he will receive back
from the Lord, whether he is a bondservant or is free. 9 Masters,
do the same to them, and stop your threatening, knowing that he who
is both their Master and yours is in heaven, and that there is no
partiality with him.

African Worship Service: Tonight!
This evening at 6 p.m., we will host our second worship service for
the African community here in Austin, and you are invited to
participate! The service will bilingual, with songs and hymns both
in Swahili as well as in English with translation provided. Albert
Yonimiki will lead the singing portions of the service, and Pastor
Bryce will be preaching with translation. While we continue our
efforts to provide translation for our Sunday morning service and
ESL instruction for our African brothers and sisters, this service
is an opportunity for a reciprocal experience—communicating with
them in their own language and style.
Fall Semester Begins September 12
