We say to our children: you can be
anything you want! Teenage years
are often described as times for
exploring your personal identity
apart from parents.
Even in political life, identity is
more determinative of voting
patterns than many other factors -
including policy.
Tonight we explore a Christian
vision of identity that is orientated
more to Christ and his kingdom. It
is not so much finding ourselves as
being found in Christ.

Did We Miss Your Birthday – or put it on the wrong date?
When we switched over to our new data base, some of
the months and days of certain birthdays got reversed.
We are trying to correct and update our new church
database. Did we miss your birthday? Did we put it on
the wrong date? Are you fairly new to Woody Nook? If
you’ve noticed an error for your birthday, phone number
or address, please let us know! You can email us at
[email protected] Thank you so much for
helping us out with this
We Need Volunteers to Help Transport our Seniors
Requesting volunteers to take turns with picking up and
dropping off Seniors in our congregation for Sunday
mornings. Please contact Cheryl Talsma 403.782.4564 or
Brad Prins 403.341.9570 if you can help out in any way.
Teachers—February and Beyond!
We have a teacher for January but require teachers for
February to June for a new group of 3-year-olds coming
in. If you'd like to sign up, please add your name to the
list on the bulletin board in the Kid's Ministry wing.
Old Kitchen Clean-Out! – Last Week to Check Mary Jean is working on cleaning out the old kitchen and there is plenty of extra ‘stuff’ in there—dishes, plastic cups, mugs, etc.. She’ll be putting them out of the counters and they are free for the taking (unless, of course, you’d like to make a donation to the kitchen fund ). Please take a look! After this week it will be donated to the Thrift Store.
Living Between the Trees: Awakening Our Creativity
We are excited to continue our year-long exploration of creativity which we began last October. Some changes in dates and new info about the next workshops:
Sunday, January 22 after the service (not Jan. 21 as mentioned earlier). This afternoon will be a time of visioning and collaborating with Karen Tamminga-Paton about the big art installation for our front foyer space. We need people who are MAKERS of things in a variety of mediums (wood, leather, metal, fabric, paper, clay, glass, etc.); LEADERS of groups and programs in the church (GEMS, Cadets, CATCH, Morning Break, Small Groups, etc.) and IDEA people to meet with us for a few hours on this Sunday afternoon. No age limit: we want kids, young adults, older adults, everyone interested in helping to plan and contribute to the design of this work. Karen will be taking our suggestions and working them into the overall art installation. Note: you will NOT be making anything on this day; lunch WILL be provided. Please register online or leave a note at the office.
Saturday, March 18: “You Got the Skillz” workshops (1/2 day and full day). If you are interested in teaching a skill or learning a new skill, keep this day free. More info coming in mid-February. Let the committee know if you want to lead a workshop teaching a skill in which you are gifted (eg. Welding, flower arranging, sewing, cake decorating, woodworking, poetry writing).
GEMS
We are taking a little Christmas Break until January 13, 2017 when we will have our Sleepover. Girls are to arrive at 5pm on Friday and can be picked up
at 10am on Saturday. We are going to need sewing machines and 'knowledgeable operators' to come and assist us at 8pm. We expect this activity to take about an hour. If you have a machine and would like to help with this, please call/text SherryAnn Hoogland at 403.597.2230. Regular Wednesday night meetings will resume again on Wednesday, January 25, 2017.
CADETS (For boys in Grades 5 to Grade 9)
The next Cadet meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, January 18, 2017 at 7:30 p.m. For
more info about Cadets or if you have any questions, please call Keith Vaandrager at
403.748.3833. The schedule for the second half of the year should also be emailed out in the next couple of weeks.
The Cadets Thank You!
The Cadets would like to thank everyone for their
support in the bottle drive. It was a great evening and people sure drink a lot of milk. If anyone was missed, please let Keith Vaandrager or Kevin Mulder know and we will arrange to have the bottles picked up.
Double Bridal Shower—Save the Date!
There will be a double wedding shower on Monday,
January 30th at 7:30pm here at Woody Nook, for Jessica
VanderVinne, bride-to-be of Jordan Folkerts, and Leah
Hogarth, bride-to-be of Justin Hayward. All ladies are
welcome to attend.

JUST A REMINDER FROM THE DEACONS
that the offering for Woody Nook Ministries if for our Budget. We all need to continually think about the support of our church financially throughout the year. One great way is also through Woody Bucks which can be purchased before or after any Sunday morning service in the Consistory Room. Thankyou – from the Deacons
