Thank you for your continued support throughout these very challenging and uncertain times. There will continue to be

Health

It is important that parents/carers are aware that, where they have concerns regarding children with compromised health or

other health related concerns, they may still wish to keep their child home for this period and not send them for the one day

face to face from Week 3. In this case, students can continue to complete the learning from home program.

Attendance

We ask that parents continue to please notify the school of their child’s absence. Students who are sick or have any symptoms

should not attend school. If students are engaging in our learning from home program and completing the set work, they will

be marked as flexible attendance instead of an absence. Those students who are not engaging in the online learning, not

present at school or identified as sick will be marked as absent.

HSC Students

The school will be in contact with you this week regarding your return to school. This most definitely is not the planned start

that we all had envisioned for the HSC studies in 2020 for our students. However, we will support you to achieve your HSC and

move on to your next phase whether it be beyond school or the second step of your HSC studies. Please do not hesitate to

contact your teachers if you are requiring additional support. We understand that this is an extremely stressful time for you. We

will continue to keep you up to date with the ongoing changes to the HSC studies as NESA continues to address all identified

issues. Rest assured that we and NESA have the best interests of your studies at the forefront of all these decisions.

HSC EXAMS WILL GO AHEAD IN 2020 – NESA Media Release 24 April 2020

Chair of the NSW Education Standards Authority (NESA) COVID-19 Response Committee, Professor Peter Shergold confirmed

today that the class of 2020 will sit HSC written exams later this year.

Today’s Committee meeting also agreed to:

• release HSC results in mid December as originally planned

• release the written exam timetable by 15 May (Week 3 Term 2)

• extend due dates and allow teachers to mark major projects in Design and Technology, Industrial Technology, and Visual

Arts

• give schools and parents more time to submit evidence for disability provisions for the exams.

Professor Shergold said the Committee is systematically working through every element of this year’s HSC so that the results

issued to students in mid December take into account any disruption due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

“The health and safety of students, teachers, exam supervisors and markers, as well as equity for students remain central to the

Committee’s planning for this year’s HSC,” Professor Shergold said.

The marking process for Design and Technology, Industrial Technology, and Visual Arts bodies of work have been changed, so

students will have an extra two weeks to work on their projects, and the marks will be provided by their teachers.

“Teachers are best placed to consider the extent of any disruption experienced by their individual students due to the COVID-19

pandemic, as they will have been closely monitoring their progress since Term 4 last year,” Professor Shergold said.

NESA will provide teachers with detailed marking guidelines and monitor marks submitted to ensure equity in major project

marks across the state.

Schools are now able to apply for disability provisions for students for the exams based on the evidence they already have

noting that it may be challenging for families to access specialist medical advice at this time. Additional medical evidence can be

provided at later date.

Social Distancing – The front office, pick up and drop off.

You will notice additional signage around the school to support social distancing measures . At the front office foyer we ask

that there only be a maximum of two people at the front office at any one time. If you can call us or send us an email that

would be best!

All primary students must be dropped off at the front side gate to walk around the back way to line up under the hayshed.

Kindergarten students may be dropped at the front office steps to then walk in and place their bags at their classroom, then

heading to the hayshed. When picking up your students from the front of the school, please adhere to the social distancing

measures and changes that we have put in place during this time. We have placed reminders at the front fence for our primary

parents to assist with daily pick up and drop off. Signage on the secondary fence and bus zone is also in place.

Additionally, the ‘No Stopping’ zone at the front of the school will be changed to a ‘No Standing’ zone. This sign means that

any vehicles can stop to drop off and pick up students in a timely manner. This will allow parents stay in their cars and wait for

their child to enter or exit the school safely.

NBN Relief Package for School Aged Children

As part of the NBN COVID-19 Education Relief Package, approximately $50 million will be directed from NBN to help retailer

providers support low-income households with school-aged children who do not currently have an active NBN™ connection at

home.

The NSW Department of Education is currently negotiating with providers. The official list of retailers/families that can engage

with is expected to be announced from 28 April.

At home…

With a computer or iPad and a good internet connection, Maths Pathways lends itself to home learning very well.

However, it is important that students find themselves a quiet location away from the TV and other distractions so they can

make the best use of their time.

Just like in the classroom, have your work book, red pen and ruler handy to set up your page just as you would at school. Rule a

red line up the middle of your page.

Remember to write the date and the title of your module also using a red pen.

Students are encouraged to check their answers as they progress through the module. If they are getting answers wrong (or

needing to sneak a peek at the answer before working it out for themselves, more than a couple of times) then they better hit

the help button and choose the option to watch the short accompanying video. If they are still having difficulty, without any

classmates, this might be a good time to email / send a message via Google classroom to your teacher.

Your teacher may ask you to complete a Diagnostic Test so that you can access more modules. They will email you your access

code. So keep an eye on your emails.

For Diagnostics Tests, it is critical that no help is

given from siblings and parents because this is

when Maths Pathways works out exactly what

you are ready to learn. If you get help answering

these questions your work will be too difficult for

you in the future. DO have a notebook or scrap

paper handy to help you to answer the questions

as accurately as you can. Careless answers will

result in you having to complete modules that

you may already understand and can do.

So give yourself a good chance to make the most

of your time completing your Maths Pathways

modules and set up in a quiet space, check often

that your work is correct and don’t ask for any

help when you are completing your Diagnostic

Tests as the consequence will be ‘work that is too

hard for you at this time’!

Secondary Students – Morning roll Call/Wellbeing

Secondary students need to look out for an email from your Roll Call teacher(s). This will be an invitation and link to join a new

Google Classroom for your Stage Group morning roll Call and Wellbeing group.

From Monday of Week 2, your school day will commence with either a Zoom meeting or a shout out from your Roll Call

teacher. It is important that you respond to their requests to either say good morning or participate in the Zoom Meeting for

important information or sharing, whatever is on offer, as this is how we will know to mark you as present for the day.

If we don’t get a good morning or participation in you morning wellbeing session, you will get marked absent until your

teacher gets some indication that you have engaged with your class work for the day.

If you remain marked absent, as none of your teachers have been able to see evidence of your engagement in class work, you

will receive an unexplained absence letter which will be recorded in your attendance record.

So please make sure you are up, showered/dressed, had breakfast and ready for your school day by 8:40am and more

importantly, ready to give a BIG, CHEERY GOOD MORNING greeting to your Year Adviser(s) and brighten their day!

What is the best thing about BCS and/or Bingara? It is small, lots of people see this as a negative but it is such a huge positive. It enhances your learning experience. I became very close with a few of the teachers at BCS throughout my high school journey and I am still friends with them now! People that I would not have been where I am today without their constant support and helping hands. Names: Robyn Gasson, Scot Crispin and Nicki Galvin

What is your favourite BCS memory and/or tradition?Favourite BCS tradition weirdly enough, I hated it at the time but now reflecting it was the marching for school sports carnivals and the picking of the oranges. I loved how the community and school came together to remember our fallen soldiers.

Where are you now? Occupation?I am currently living in Geurie. I work as a full time registered nurse (RN) at Wellington District Hospital.

What are some of your achievements? Well in life I got married in November last year to the love of my life. I completed my Bachelor of Nursing Studies in 2 years (fastracked) whilst working as an aged carer in Armidale. I am being transitioned into the Emergency department where I am working to progress to be nurse in charge when on shift. I am currently studying my graduate diploma of clinical practice to become a paramedic, this course is delivered full time over the period of a year, so hopefully I will be a qualified paramedic early next year!

What is an interesting fact about you? Hmm there isn’t any really that I can think about. I have traveled to Fiji for my honeymoon and it was beautiful.

Do you have any words of wisdom for our students?Put a lot of effort into your studies, listen to the staff at BCS and you will receive amazing benefits! Whilst I was at Bingara I completed a school based trainee-ship at Bingara MPS. This was the foundation for where I am today. Do not limit the possibilities just because you come from a small rural area!!!!!

Is there anything else you would like to share with us?I had a hard childhood growing up, things were tough. I was taken in by my amazing grandparents, well saved by them really. My grandparents made me the person I am today and the respect and love I have for them is unbelievable. I would not have been able to achieve all the things I have thus far without their constant support, love and confidence in me.
