brand new week of Phase 5 phonics!

New Grapheme

Okay, so today we are going to learn a brand

new grapheme.

Remember - a grapheme is the way we write a

phoneme (sound) - often 2 letters (diagraph).

Did you spot these graphemes for the /zh/

phoneme (sound)?

s ge siNow you are going to read some words with

these graphemes - remember, they make the

phoneme (sound) /zh/.

Do you remember how to play Sound Buttons?

'Press' each button with your finger and say each

sound out loud.

When you have said each sound individually,

blend them all together by running your finger

underneath the whole word and say the word out

loud.

What were they?

Write them down in your workbook (don't forget

to write the date and 'Phonics') and try to have a

look at them as often as you can today.

Remember your amazing letter formation when

you write in your workbook!

Quickwrite Words

Look carefully at each picture

and think about what word is

needed - remember, every word

will have the /zh/ phoneme.

Now sound count each word

and write it down - remember,

you will need the grapheme s, si

or ge.

Now let's try writing some of these words.

If you can print the worksheet then great, if not

DON'T PANIC! You can write the words in your

work book. You could even add your own picture

if you want to.

Just remember to write the date and 'Quickwrite

Words'.

If you're not sure what word to write, ask an

adult to look at the answer sheet and tell you the

word needed.
