Year 1 Reading & Phonics
Week 10
Week beginning: Monday 15th June
Week 10 – Monday 15th June
Activity 1: Phonics Flashcards – use any of the Year 1 GOTCHA video on our YouTube SWECET channel. There are 8 to choose from.
Activity 2: Blends. When some letters (consonants) come together in words we call them blends.
Have a look at this blend poster and see if you can think and say a word that ends with each of these blends.
Activity 3 Say the word aloud and then think about the sound that you can hear at the end of the word.
Challenge:Can you spell the words to match the pictures?

Activity 2:Find the correct word from each set.
Week 10 – Thursday 18th June
Reading Comprehension – Cinderella
Activity 1 – Read the text. Discuss it afterwards with your adult. Do you know what type of text this is? Is it a story, a letter or a playscript?
Activity 2 – Take parts to play and act this playscript out with members of your family.
Activity 3 – Answer these questions.
1. Where did Cinderella want to go?
2. Who helped Cinderella?
3. Who did Cinderella dance with?
4. Did Cinderella leave the ball on time?
Week 10 – Friday 19th June
Activity – Explain the meanings that a word has
In the playscript Cinderella the word ball is used. Ball has two meanings. Talk about the 2 meanings for the word ball. Say them in a sentence.
Below are some other words that have more than one meaning. With an adult use the words in spoken sentences and then explain the meanings of each word.
Challenge – Write the words in sentences to show the meanings
If you think of any other words that have more than one meaning send them to your teachers to see if they know the meanings!
