Term 3 Week 2 Thursday, 30 July 2020

Principal’s Message - Welcome back to Term Three

Covid-19

The department of Education is working tirelessly to keep students, staff and community safe during these times.

Directions are changing frequently and we are keeping as updated as possible. Students and staff are following health

guidelines and visitors to the school are undertaking the appropriate screening. This is a moving feast and we thank you

for your patience and support.

Attendance

As always the school and Department are closely monitoring student attendance. I have attached the Department of

Education’s Attendance Policy at the back of this newsletter for your information. Students are required at school unless

they are unwell or have communicated with the school and applied for Leave. Leave is not automatically granted and if a

suitable explanation is not given, a student can be marked as having Unjustified Leave.

The key message here is that communication needs to be free flowing between home and the school. If your child is un-

well and is not at school, it is your obligation to contact the school to inform us of their absence. You will be asked for a

doctor’s certificate if your child is off for two days or more. The Home School Liaison Officer is constantly monitoring our

school attendance data and has a process that we must follow. The school is mandated to follow this procedure. Thank

you for your co operation with these matters.

Personalised Learning Pathways

PLP meetings are currently taking place for Semester Two 2020. Thank you to those families that have already attended

these meetings and we look forward to seeing the remaining families over the coming days. The children have been

working hard to achieve their goals and plan new ones. Thank you to Miss Dayna Porter for coordinating these plans and

interviews.

Community Craft

Thank you to the girls at Bumbira Art and Culture Program who presented a work shop at Walhallow PS last week. Our

attendees did a great job creating an art piece on this year’s NAIDOC Theme - Always was, Always will be. Thank you to

our Community Craft Group for coordinating and catering.

Yuluwirri

Yuluwirri Playgroup and Preschool started this week at Walhallow PS. Our youngest community members had a lovely

The Echidna Room

The Rainbow Serpent Room

Coding with micro: bits.

This week students used block code to build a coin flip game on their micro: bit to simulate a real coin toss.

Welcome back to another busy term everyone. In the Rainbow Serpent Room we will be focusing

on writing this term and learning to write independently by following a Sentence a Day program. Our

main focus in Mathematics will be subtraction and learning to read the time confidently. In

Geography we will be looking at Country and how we can take care of the environment around us.

As part of this unit, we are reading the picture book Tom Tom by Rosemary Sullivan.

Students also

experimented with

pencil code.net

when they created

art using block

code

Clock making so that we can learn to read the time. Jacoebi working on his
