Hello Sprouts. Our first newsletter of 2020 finds us all in a situation we’ve never been in before with schools canceled and stay at home orders. While we are stuck at home, we thought we’d give you some fun activities to do here in the newsletter and give you some ideas to keep everyone entertained. We have compiled a list of activities that hopefully will spark some new ways to enjoy your days this spring at home and bring some smiles to your faces. 10 Fun Things To Do at Home 1. Have a picnic (inside or in your backyard) - There is nothing quite like eating on a blanket in nature or your living room decorated like the outdoors. Use cook- ie cutters to make shaped sandwiches with an adult’s help and fill your basket with finger foods. 2. Create a scavenger hunt in your house - Grab your favorite toys and take turns hiding and finding them. Don’t forget to write down the item you hide. 3. Create an obstacle course inside or out - Want to be the next Ninja Warrior? Start designing your course on paper first with objects you find around the house and garage. Get an adult to help set up a safe course and start training. 4. Have a board game tournament - Whether it’s the best of several different games or a round-robin tournament of your family’s favorite game. You can even create a medal or certificate for the winner. 5. Put on a performance - Write a comedy skit, a puppet show or just dust off your favorite musical instrument and perform for your family. 6. Craft from recyclables - Use the instructions on the back of this newsletter to create a toilet paper tube butterfly or look through your recyclables and see what you can create. We’ve seen pop bottle bird feeders and egg carton puppets. 7. Build a fort - Grab your extra blankets and your favorite fort making materials to create a fun space just for you. This can be a great place to cozy up with a good book or take a nap. 8. Write letters - Sending mail via the post office may be old fashioned, but it would certainly brighten someone else’s day. Write a letter, draw some pictures, decorate the envelopes and send them to family members near and far. Write to friends from school or see if there is an assisted living center near you that is col- lecting pictures or letters to brighten the days of their residents. 9. Decorate your windows - With your neighbors stuck at a distance, decorat- ing your windows with washable paint or cut out hearts gives people hope and cheer. So get an adults’ permission and decorate away. 10. Make an after the quarantine list - Write down the places you want to go and things you want to do once we can go out again. It will help to remember that, after all is said and done, life will go back to normal and give you something to look forward to. Making A Cardboard Tube Butterfly

This butterfly craft is a great way to reuse/recycle toilet paper or paper towel cardboard tubes.

What You Need:

• Toilet paper roll or paper towel roll • Craft glue and glue dots • Paper clips • Scissors • Acrylic paint (optional) • Foam brush or small brush • One button • Twine • Pencil or pen • Ruler • Magnet (optional)

How To Make: 1. One toilet paper roll makes one

butterfly. Smash the roll flat. Mark the smashed roll into 1/2 inch sections and cut off each section. Try to keep your pieces the same width. Do not throw away the extra sections. See Illustration 1.

2. Attach four cardboard sections together to create the butterfly shape. You can use glue dots or craft glue. If using glue, you will need to paper clip pieces together until they have dried. See Illustration 2.

3. If you want to paint the butterfly, paint on both sides and let dry.

4. In this step, you will wrap the twine around the middle of the butterfly. Use glue to attach the end of the twine to the back of the butterfly. See Illustration 3.

5. Using one of the extra sections of the toilet paper roll, cut one of the ends in half. This piece will be used for the antennas. If you want, you can also paint the antennas. Let them dry. See Illustration 4.

6. Curl the edges of the antennas. Attach the antennas to the butterfly using glue or glue dots. Let dry if using glue. Then attach the button to the top of the butterfly using glue or a glue dot. See Illustrations 4 and 5.

7. If you want to make a magnet butterfly, glue a small round magnet to the back of the butterfly.

Saving money is smart. Why? Because saving now means you can spend later. So if you have your eye on a Nintendo Switch or an Xbox, here’s how to get your hands on one, or something else you’re interested in, in five easy steps:

1. Set your goal. What do you want to save for?2. Make smart spending decisions - be aware of how you’re

spending your money.3. Save your change. Every day empty your pockets of

change. Keep it in a special box or container. When the box is full, bring the money to the credit union and deposit it into your Youth Savings Account.

4. Whenever you get money - whether it’s from an allowance, doing extra chores, or as a gift - don’t spend it all. Save at least a third of it.

5. Once you reach your goal, repeat the process with your next goal.

That’s five easy steps to becoming a savings genius!
