What are we using water for?

•18 liters for brushing teeth with running tap

225 liters for 10 minute shower

•8-20 liters for one toilet flush

• slowly dripping water 20,000liters a year

180 liters one load of laundry

• Tiger Woods Golf Course 18 million liters every day

•1362 liters to water lawn

• 163 liters fill the bathtub

Just compare them

•From beginning of my presentation approximately 20 children have died from water related diseases

•If we did nothing other than provide access to clean water we could save 2 million lives a year

•Around 4 million people die each year from them

Sad water facts

•Half of the world’s hospitalizations are due to water related diseases

• More than 1 billion people use less than six liters of water

• Average American uses more than 500 liters

•Nearly 443 million school days are unattended

•Ancient Romans had better water quality than half thepeople live on the earth now

•More people have a mobile phone than access to the toilet

•Only 62% of the world’s population has access to improved sanitation

•200 million hours are wasted every day from women for gathering water

Simple steps to take

•Wash your fruits and vegetables in a pan of water

•Immediately fix leaks

•Shorten your shower time

•Turn off faucets tightly after using

•Use a water-efficient showerhead

•Group plants with the same watering needs together

•Turn off the tap while brushing teeth

•Equip fountains and swimming pools with recirculation equipment

•Report broken pipes, open hydrants and errant sprinklers

•Have your plumber re-route your gray water to trees and gardens
