Lads to Leaders

Camp Wetoga(Barry Pritchett, Daniel Sisson, Tim Hall)

The Ellijay congregation has been involved in the organization and development of the North Georgia Bible Camp since 1969. It was later named Camp Wetoga in 1983. The camp continues to expand and offer additional activities and training for youth by the different congregations of the church in North Georgia. Some of the activities that have been accomplished by the camp are listed below: • In 2018, there were several baptisms and many young people asked for prayers • Over 2000 baptized into Christ since its beginning in 1969 • With recent donations from individuals and churches, the camp debt has been cut in half since 2013 • Due to the addition of the new pool, plans to pay the camp debt will be completed in 4-7 years, which will enable the camp to provide more spiritual opportunities and growth for our young people • Great environment for youth to find their inner-self away from worldly distractions • Thousands of life-long friendships established • Over 30 marriages from couples meeting at camp • Rekindles the fire in many young people who attend camp • A great place to be spiritually uplifted • Encourage more youth to participate and assist in serving at camp

GOALS: • Update Ellijay cabin by providing construction materials • Provide 20 youth scholarships for young people to attend camp • Build an outdoor pavilion for devotionals, Bible classes and other activities. Cost of this will be approximately $40,000 to $50,000. We plan to raise the money to build this and incur no debt. We may be able to use timber on the property for lumber • Finish the new swimming pool. The old one was 35-40 years old and was beyond repair • Schedule a minimum of 25 youth and a minimum of 10 adults as camp workers from Ellijay to attend at least one summer camp session • Encourage churches involved with the camp to make more use of the camp facilities • A fundraiser is planned at the camp in May 2019

(Brandon Jones, Daniel Sisson, Tim Hall)

Lads to Leaders is the oldest and largest leadership training program used by the churches of Christ. Beginning in 1968, the program has set out to create Christian leadership in the youth of the congregations of the Lord’s church. The program currently has over 20,000 participants nationwide, developing skills which will allow them to step forward and become the future leadership of the church. In addition, those congregations who utilize Lads to Leaders see a retention rate of 85% or higher in their youth after graduation, compared to the usual 50% or less of those congregations who do not use resources such as these. These are merely a few reasons as to why Lads to Leaders is an essential part of the development of the youth of the congregation.

• Develop young people’s abilities • Prepare youth for service in the Kingdom of God • Offer a variety of Bible-based materials for all ages • Youth can choose from around 40 events/projects to work on that cover a wide range of interests • Teach our youth to be leaders • Look at the talents developed with God’s help in our youth • Encourage all youth in the congregation to participate
