ONE PAGE AT A TIME

by Pastor Ron Lawler

To my left, on my book shelf is a stack of books. The stack is about 8” high. That was my reading assignment for one class in leadership. When I first got all those books and looked at them in the light of all the other demands of daily life I thought, “How in the world will I get all of that read?”

Many of our big tasks and challenges are like that. When we look at the whole, we are intimi-dated.

Did I get the pile read? Yep, because I found the secret to getting it done. The secret is rooted in desire. I wanted to win the end prize of all that came with finishing my grad work. I had to be honest with myself. I must be either all in or all out. Do I truly want it or just think it is a nice idea? Whether a book is a hundred pages or a thou-sand, they are both read one page at a time. I took my books with me and read a page here and two pages there. I celebrated reading “a” page at a time. Much quicker than I expected the pile was completed and the reports written.

The biggest challenge for me is being honest with myself. Do I really want this? If I just

two “Personal Finance” classes to Sophia and two other MK’s.

• Developed and printed personalized checks, deposit slips, and withdrawal slips for my three students in Personal Finance class.

• Attended three ladies Bible studies/prayer times.

• Worked on songs for leading music at CICF (Conakry International Christian Fellowship) April 9th.

• Developed an updated Guinea budget reflect-ing changes since we’ve been back .

• Got info to accountant for taxes...bless him! Rejoiced at our tax return...bless our tax “deductlings”!

• Weekend stay at “The Haven”- another mis-sion’s guesthouse with a pool and AC. Went to the mall. Had ice cream! Part of our thriv-ing strategy!

• Taught Sophia’s Language Arts subjects.

• Sent emails to newly announced representa-tives (recruits) of PBT...may have sent subtle messages wooing them to the WAB (West Africa Branch) if I thought it was appropriate.

• Continued to sort through colleagues’ stuff. Evert is continuing his chemo. Was able to send his history books (he’s a big history buff) back to Dallas with a short term team. Also began the task of sorting through another colleague’s stuff who is not coming back any time soon due to severe allergies and mi-graines. I wasn’t expecting this task and it’s kind of thrown me for a loop. Prayers appre-ciated.

• Paid house help each Tuesday and Thurs-day...so appreciate him!

• Gave Pular/French calendar to older man who is one of our new neighbors; introduced myself to neighborhood kids in the hopes that they quit chanting “porto, porto” at us.

• Kept in contact with sisters back home about how mom is doing.

• Made video in French scolding Dorcas for acting helpless at school to get attention when she can jolly well walk better than she was.

• Made Bible story video (but couldn’t get it to

load n) for Loralei.

Thank you for praying, Friends! We appreciate you!

Pioneer Bible Translators - April 2017

“WHAT IS A NORMAL DAY FOR YOU?” We get asked this all the time when we are in the States. I was going to keep a log for Pete and me (Amy) for a month, but it would be too long. Branch meeting is coming up too, so I’d lose track. So here is a list of the highlights of the last two to three weeks for each of us. (Editor’s Note: We’ll look at Amy’s Schedule this week. We saw Pete’s schedule last week.)

AMY:

• Three to four mornings a week spent entering data into Quickbooks; responding to finance emails.

• Three CASOG (orphanage) visits.

• Corresponded with Dorcas’ host family about her return the end of May.

• Helped Mercy Ship folks get their supplies out of the PBT Storage Annex.

• Hosted four dinners for colleagues (PBT & other missions); provided supper to a returning family.

• Talked a few missionaries down from the ceiling when life got to be a little much (they do the same for me).

• Continued working on the branch meeting lodg-ing and meal logistics spreadsheet; communi-cated with branch about who’s doing which meals when and gave shopping list deadline (after the deadline they have to shop for the meal they are in charge of).

• Filled out a request from young girl in States wanting to know the ways the people in Africa use the Seven Habits of Happy Kids (a list of the habits was provided) She also wanted to know how the missionaries use the habits while they are serving in Africa?

• Three or four discussions with a possible adop-tive parent.

• Prepared eight pans of lasagna in preparation for April branch meeting.

• Bought ten rolls of a specific toilet paper for a colleague because she knew we were going to a certain store. Also bought office supplies.

• Filled out the “Awesome Spreadsheet of the Petty Cash Reconciliation Kingdom” after Pete did the cash counts. Why make your forms with boring titles?

• Writing the newsletter (including keeping track of what we do). This takes longer than you might think so thanks for reading them!!

• Tried to find dog food our dog isn’t allergic to/decided to try rice and sauce.

• Bought worm meds for dog and cat.

• Created and printed up and filled out new as-signment sheets for Sophia’s next four weeks .

• Taught three “Literature in Movies” classes and
