NOTE: The placement of the two trail emblems depends on which handbook the child completes in the first year. First year trail emblem should be placed on the left. Achievement emblems for the AppleSeed handbook complete the letter A on the vest. Emblems for the HoneyComb handbook complete the letter C.

Cubbies who complete the Apple Acres entrance booklet receive their new vest and their first Green Apple emblem. We encourage leaders to place the emblem in the pocket of the vest when the vests are handed out. Children this age need a lot of motivation and encouragement and they will love seeing their first award with their new vest! Also, this will immediately prompt parents into the habit of attaching emblems. (To make it easy, encourage parents to use the Cubbies® Badge Magic® sheets or give them clear instructions for ironing on awards.)

Cubbies earn both an AppleSeed Trail emblem and the first Red Apple emblem after completing the AppleSeed Trail (Bear Hugs 1 and 2) in the handbook. After that, Cubbies earn apple emblems about every four weeks upon completion of a unit.

Stickers are given to reward section completion. Stickers are also given for completion of the option-al Review and Under the Apple Tree sections.

A Cubbie who completes all available elements of the curriculum for the AppleSeed year will need 4 Green Apple emblems, 4 Red Apple emblems, 1 AppleSeed Trail emblem, 14 Green Apple stickers, 14 Red Apple stickers, 20 review stickers (8 Cubbie Bear stickers, 6 Luvie Lamb stickers and 6 Katie Collie stickers), 30 Golden Apple stickers, and 4 Special Day stickers (a different sticker for each special day). Each Cubbie will also need an AppleSeed Book Award.

During an AppleSeed year, apple emblems are placed on the A of a child’s vest. In a HoneyComb year, apple emblems are placed on the C of a child’s vest.

Requirements for Earning Awards

Children are allowed two helps per Bear Hug verse. They are also allowed two helps for the re-view verses. Note: Since the fourth lesson in each unit is a built-in review for all Cubbies, there is no separate handbook review section on these weeks.

The Cubbies program offers a short and long version of most memory verses. Parents can choose which version best matches their child’s ability and indicate their choice in the handbook. Both 3-year-olds and 4-year-olds can learn either the short version or the long version of the verse. (4-year-olds are encouraged, but not required, to learn the long version and reference.) Regardless of age, Cubbies who learn the long version of the verse must also learn the Bible reference. When Cubbies all learn the same version of the verse, encourage capable Cubbies to also learn the reference.
