We had the opportunity to visit with performer/director Barbara Graham, one of the founders of LTMT, to learn more about this exceptional organization. 1. Who are the founders of the LTMT? In 2007, I worked with William Parcher in what was then The Parcher School of the Arts. He decided that year that we should put on a summer musical... which we did. After a couple of years, we decided it would be necessary to become a non-profit organization now known as Lake Travis Music Theatre, Inc. and when William closed down his school to go a different direction, the sole responsibility and role of director of the summer musicals was left to me. Musical director, Dr. Leonard McCormick, leads a live orchestra for every summer musical, and most recently led the small instrumental ensemble for A Charlie Brown Christmas. 2. What was the idea behind starting a community music theatre? Having taught voice and acting in Lago Vista, it became clear that our area was blessed with talented people...young and not so young alike. It seemed perfectly logical to try to provide a vehicle and venue for these talented folks to hone their skills and to use their God given gifts by presenting full-length Broadway musicals here in Lago Vista. 3. How many performers make up the LTMT? Auditions for the summer musicals are open to anyone who wants to audition. We have had cast members from all over the Austin area from South Austin to Georgetown to Round Rock to Austin proper to Leander and, of course, from Lago Vista and Point Venture. 4. What types of shows are presented by the LTMT?? Each summer LTMT presents a major Broadway musical. Past productions include Bye, Bye Birdie; The Sound of Music; Oliver; South Pacific; Annie; Guys and Dolls; Fiddler on the Roof; and Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat. Barbara Graham GET TO KNOW Co-Founder / Artistic Director Lake Travis Music Theatre BUSINESS SPOTLIGHT I n this edition of the Lakeside at Tessera on Lake Travis newsletter, we profile Villa Antonia, one of the most beautiful event venues in Central Texas. It was originally conceived and designed by Antonia ‘Toni’, who wanted a very special home in the breathtaking canyons of the Texas Hill Country. The dream became a reality in 1999, and after numerous couples began asking if they could host their weddings at the location, Villa Antonia was born. Villa Antonia is owned by Kate and Matt McCabe, who live in Austin with their two children, Rory (4) and Tess (1). Matt is a CPA at a firm in Austin, and Kate is a practicing attorney in town. The couple became the owners of Villa Antonia in November 2015. The McCabe’s first experience with Villa Antonia was as guests at the wedding of a family friend about five years ago. They loved the views and thought it was such a unique and beautiful venue for a wedding. Almost two years ago, Matt was looking online at businesses for sale and noticed a listing for a wedding venue. When he and Kate found out it was Villa Antonia, they knew they had to really consider it and went and took a tour of it shortly thereafter, with their then-two week old daughter in tow. About six months later, they purchased it. Villa Antonia has hosted all types of social and corporate events, such as weddings, dances, vow renewals, anniversary parties and corporate holiday parties, but weddings are by far the most common type of event that takes place there. According to Kate, “It is just such a perfect place for such a special day, and we love being a part of the story of so many wonderful couples.” One thing that truly differentiates Villa Antonia is its experienced and caring staff that is dedicated to taking care of clients and making every event perfect. There is an event coordinator and assistant coordinator who assist with the wedding on the day of the event, and prior to the wedding couples meet with the team to work out all of the details. “Our goal is to make sure every detail is taken care of and everything runs smoothly on the day of the wedding,” said Kate. For more information on hosting an event at Villa Antonia, visit the website (www. villaantonia.com) or e-email Sales and Marketing Director, Elizabeth Vaughn ([email protected]).
