How to Create Keyboard Shortcuts for SymbolsZoe Hill 06/16/16

Creating shortcuts for symbols that frequently appear in grants and contracts (such as β, µ, and α) can save a lot of time and trouble when working on Summary Statements and TERs. This is a short tutorial on how to enable shortcuts on your computer using Word 2013.

The shortcuts are not universal. Word shortcuts work for Word only.

The shortcuts are computer- specific, so if you enable them on your desktop you have to enable them again on your laptop, or when you get a new computer.

You cannot group multiple symbols or words together in this shortcut, however a macro can be made to for multiple step actions.

1. Open Word on the computer where you want the shortcuts.2. Click on the INSERT tab.

3. Go to the Symbols section, click the Symbol dropdown, and select More Symbols.

4. Select the symbol that you want and then click the Shortcut Key.
