DEBBIE’S DARING ADVENTURE
PETE’S PLACE Guess what? In about a week many of your friends from FUMC are getting on a plane and jetting to Israel-including me. We are excited! We’ve got our passports, pictures, cameras, phones, clothes, and instructions; all we need is for the 27th to get here-that’s when we leave.
It is hard for me to imagine that we are going to float in the Sea of Galilee somewhere near where Jesus walked on water. We will walk in his footsteps and hear the echo of his voice in the mountains around Jerusalem. We will float in the Dead Sea and affirm our baptisms in the Jordan River and so much more. It is hard to be patient.
You will probably hear more than you ever wanted to hear about Israel when I get back. I plan to have pictures for every service. I’m going to substitute pictures of Israel for pictures of my granddaugh-ter. But when you talk about walking in the footsteps of one’s savior it gets difficult to contain one’s enthusiasm. So I am not going to.
Pray for us to be led by the Holy Spirit while we are there and for a safe journey. May God bless us and lead us and touch our hearts and minds. Amen.
Grace and Peace, Pete
Words cannot express the deep gratitude I have for the people and staff of First UMC. You have been gracious and loving in this time of ministry together and the transition of associate pastors. Your words of love and appreciation have touched me deeply. Lew and I thank you for letting us into your hearts and lives these past six years and for your faithfulness to serve our loving God together. We will continue to pray for you and your ministry. We hope that you will pray for us. Thank you for all the blessings showered upon us.
Grace and peace, Debbie

Join us in wearing red on June 8th for Pentecost. Pentecost is the celebration of the coming of the Holy Spirit with the whoosh of a mighty wind and tongues or fire descending upon the disci-ples. The liturgical color is red, which is one of the colors of flame. Instead of just the para-ments on the altar being red, let’s all be in red to be united as the church open to the Spirit. Join us in worship at 9:30 and 10:45 am.

THE BEST IS YET TO COME
Come, Let Us Worship Together! There are many things I love to do within my calling as a worship leader. I love to sing, I love to be with our singers and players. I love to encourage. I love to mentor. I love to dream big for our church, but as much as anything I love to plan worship. I am one of those Christians who believes that the Holy Spirit will speak right into the middle of our worship plans.
He is faithful to guide our efforts. He has never failed us yet!
What is your expectation of Worship? I imagine that most of you are like me and you expect a lot. Our worship team expects a lot. We begin and end with the single goal to create meaningful excellent worship. Worship that is pleasing to God.
It all starts with great songs. When our worship team sits down to plan worship, we never select from a list of average songs. Av-erage songs bring average results. Great songs bring great worship.
In Psalms 33:3 it says “ Sing to him a new song; play skillfully on the strings, with loud shouts.”
It is clear that playing skillfully is the watch work of this scripture. We are so blessed here at FUMC. All of our musicians play skillfully! We are also blessed to worship in a sanctuary that carries ‘live’ sound with such clarity. In addition, our sound and au-dio-visual teams are an integral part of bringing a great worship experience. They care about our worship and work diligently to create music you can hear and words and videos you can easily see.
All music is a gift from God. He uses words to deliver a specific message. Worship music is meant to minister through a work message and through the spirit touching nature of music. Great songs always start with great words. Without lyrics being heard there is nothing spiritual about what we do. There is no intrinsically spiritual music, only spiritual words. The words bring the message, the meaning. This is not to say that you can’t be spiritually moved my instrumental music, as you most certainly can be, but rather that the meaning, the message is carried specifically in the words.
I would like to encourage you, please, to pray for the worship planning and the worship planners. Bring us your ideas, tell us about your expectations.
In closing, I want to say a personal word of thanks to Debbie Riggsby. She has been a rock for me many times, a listening ear and always a prayer partner. She has supported the efforts of the worship planners as we seek to bring new ideas and new songs into our services. I wish her good fellowship and supernaturally strong leadership skills as she takes the helm at Trinity UMC in Dun-canville.
Debbie, you will be missed by all of us! Many blessings to you and Lew!
The best is yet to come, Carol

COME SEE WHAT’S NEW IN THE LIBRARY
100 DVD’S READY FOR CHECK-OUT Responding to numerous requests, the church ARC Library has added more than 100 DVD’s: including dozens of selections for all age groups. You will find a wide range of titles such as, “Christianity in Overalls”, Growing Kids God’s Way”, “What Wives Wish Their Husbands Knew About Women”, “How to Raise the Strong Willed Child”, and a wonderful series of 3-minute vignettes for toddlers.
These new resources are now ready to check-out thanks to: Some generous monetary gifts from members, and a lot of hard work by an ARC sub-committee coordinated by
Jayne and Roger Stone.
Many of the DVD’s were previous-ly VHS tapes, which Jayne and Roger converted into high quality DVD’s, then labeled and packaged for convenient shelving and check-out. The Inventory includes: ele-mentary children, juveniles, youth, young adults and adults.
All DVD’s are available for normal 3-week check out, and may be renewed by alerting a Library committee person with a note or phone call.

Summer Fun We are planning some fun activities in July and August so be on the lookout for more information! We might get together with kids from another church, or find fun ways to serve our communi-ty!
Summer Camp There is still space available for kids completing 3rd-5th grades. We are going to Student Life for Kids at Austin College, July 5-8, and we’re going to have an awesome time!
Summer WOW This summer in Worship Our Way, in addition to our fabulous worship songs and traditional worship elements, we will focus on the Fruit of the Spirit. I can’t wait to explore the Fruit with our children!
Kids Club A brand new adventure awaits our children this summer with the opportunity to explore exciting books together! Each month, Kids Club members will read a book that encourages Christian values and the joy of reading. Club members will get together at the end of the month to talk about the book and play games and other activities based on the book. There are 3 age levels within the club so your child is sure to enjoy the book picked just for them. Our youngest children (Pre-K and Kindergarten) will have fun listening to their book each month and then playing games and making crafts based on the book. If your child is not a strong reader, or does not enjoy reading, it’s ok! You may read to them as much as you can, and they can still participate in the activities. Cost is just $25 for the whole summer of Kids Club, including books! Sign up with Adrienne at church or by email at [email protected]. Kids Club dates are June 18th, July 16th, and August 13th.
Camp Bake Sale was a HUGE success! Thanks to your gen-erous donations we are able to cover 1/3 the cost for each of our kids going to camp! The generous support of our church never ceases to amaze me. THANK YOU!

RELAY FOR LIFE WRAP UP
The 2014 Relay For Life was held May 16-17. The FUMC Youth Team won the award for selling the most luminarias and raised a total of $2,776.02 for The American Cancer Society. A special thanks for Kaci Crowson for stepping in at the last moment and agreeing to be the overnight chaperone for the kids and to Angela Zahn for helping the kids with fundraising at their campsite. And last but not least, a huge thank you to our church for supporting the kids in their efforts.
