S300/S600 Serial Firmware and Motor Database Download Procedure

Download S300/S600 Firmware Procedure The field upgrade of firmware in the SERVOSTAR® 300 & SERVOSTAR® 600 series product requires the application program (CANDownload213a.exe), which can be obtained from www.DanaherMotion.com. The following steps are provided for the use of this software utility.

Firmware Download Process and Servo Drive Set-up

The 24 VDC power supply must be on to the servo drive and the servo drive must also be software disabled. An RS-232 serial port connection (null modem) between the computer and the servo drive (connector X6) must exist. CANDownload213a.exe, along with the firmware file (allxxx), must be accessible by your computer.

1) Run the CANDownload213a.exe software, which is the software package that controls the firmware download process.

2) Select the drive platform from the picture and the firmware file to download in the File to Download selection box. Locate the appropriate directory in which the firmware file (allxxx) is stored and select the file. The file shows up in the selection box as shown below.

3) Select the Firmware Segment in the General Settings selection box as shown below. Locate the proper segment large firmware >=4.00 (lall) for S600 or firmware (all) for S300. This sets the file download with the proper file size.

4) Set the communication Port and Baud Rate in the Serial Port Settings selection

box. Locate the Port selection box and select the correct port for your computer (usually COM1). In the Baud Rate selection box, select 38,400 as shown below.

5) Set the download mode in the RS-232 only selection box. Place a check mark in the binary box to use high-speed transfer in the download process (shown below).

6) Press Download.

7) The warning screen below appears. Make sure the software enable is turned

OFF and the high voltage is removed before proceeding.

8) The next warning screen appears. Make sure you have saved all your motion tasks before proceeding. Press Yes to continue.

9) The software initiates communication and set-up for the drive. The drive displays

a ‘-‘ in the left most character on the 3 digit display while it is setting up. If problems occur click Help and go to the troubleshooting section.

10) When set-up is complete, the ‘-‘ moves to the center character on the 3 digit

display and the firmware transfer begins. The status bar appears.

11) When the process is complete, the success screen pops up.

12) Cycle the 24 VDC supply to the servo drive (turn off then back on) and the firmware download is complete!

13) Close the CANDownload213a.exe software package and your servo drive is ready to set-up for your application.

Motor Database Download Process and Servo Drive Set-up The 24 VDC power supply must be on to the servo drive and the servo drive must be software disabled. An RS-232 serial port connection (null modem) must exist between the computer and the servo drive. Set the communication rate in the servo drive and Hint.exe to 9.6 kBaud for S600 and 38.4 kBaud for S300. 1) Copy the mbase file into the same directory as the Hint.exe file resides on your

computer. The files must be in the same directory for the process to work properly.

2) Launch Hint.bat and press Enter to get a prompt ( ). 3) Type UPDATE MBASE and press Enter. This starts the process of updating the

motor database file that resides in the servo drive (shown below).

4) When the memory locations stop changing, the process is complete. 5) Cycle the 24 VDC supply to the servo drive (turn off then back on) and the motor

database download is complete!

6) To verify that the download was completed successfully, type MDBCNT and press Enter. A motor count should display on the screen, as shown below.

7) If the number is greater than 0, the process was successful. If a number does not

appear, call the Customer Service Center listed below for assistance. 8) Close the Hint.exe software package and your servo drive is now ready to set-up

for your application.
