There is something about August; as it brings with itself – joy and felicity in the forms of monsoons, Ramzan, Raksha Bandhan and Indian Independence Day. And Hyderabad always has its way of celebrating these occasions. As we see good times ahead of us, this issue is all about how we observe these festivities.

Everyone is excited about the festival of Ramzan. Fasting during the month of Ramadan is one way of expressing our belief to the Almighty. It is celebrated around the world, as a time of charity, thanksgiving among family and friends. The celebrations can be felt among everyone in the city. The true essence of this festival is – forgiveness and kindness. For more, check the inside pages to know more about the festive significance with Iftar parties, in Hyderabad.

Raksha Bandhan is celebrated all over India and amongst all sections of Hindu society. It truly defines the beauty of Indian culture. It shows us more than simply the bond between a brother and a sister and the promise of security. The celebrations begin a month in advance. Markets sport a colourful outlook as the Rakhi stalls mushroom in every nook and corner of the country. Chocolates, beauty products and gadgets are some of the best goodies to gift your sister. Take a look into how sacred this ritual has been making a brother-sister relation stronger, over the centuries.

As proud citizens of India; it is time again to look back upon and commemorate the selfless services and sacrifices made by fighters who brought independence to our nation, to remember those unsung heroes and to take an oath to make our country proud by contributing more, better and living life as inspiring individuals. The magazine covers the the traditional way this national event is being celebrated over the years.

The cover story features Hyderabadi Entrepreneurs who have excelled in their arenas of professions. It begins with the much known fitness and fashion diva Shilpa Reddy. Shipra Gandhi talks about how much she values her line of business – beauty, in A Day From Her Diary. Vibha and Anand Mehta talk about their love marriage, in Special Bonding. Kerala has long beaches, misty mountains, elegant rivers and charming inland water bodies. Above all, it has the soothing greenery all around. So this issue of Expedition has everything you need to know about the God’s own country, before you visit there. Campuz Buzz features a critical aspect of concern – drug-abuse and how to stay away from it.

TOM CRUISENormal Life For Suri

New York City is hectic, especially if you’ve got the paparazzi hounding you. Despite living in the public eye, Tom Cruise wants daughter Suri to have the life any kid could enjoy. He (Tom) is going to try, despite all the at-tention, to have things be as normal as possible, a source told People, about the newly single dad, who recently split from wife Ka-tie Holmes. Tom arrived in New York to visit his daugh-ter, the first time since his divorce from Katie. Cruise, staying at the Greenwich Hotel with his sister, Cass, was seen carrying Suri into the hotel, followed by his sister, who was carrying lot of gifts for Suri. It’s go-ing to be challenging, the source continued. But he’s going to have a meaning-ful relationship with her, as he always has. Suri will visit him on movie sets when she’s not in school. He’ll call her all the time. Since arriving from filming his upcoming movie, Oblivion, in California, the actor has been seen taking Suri to gymnastics lessons.

EVA LONGORIAOn Being A Good MatchmakerEva Longoria’s single friends and those looking for new projects are in luck! The star stopped by Access Hollywood Live to promote the Lay’s - Do Us A Flavor contest launch, where she dished about

her hook up skills when it comes to rela-tionships in the bedroom and boardroom! I am a good matchmaker - not always just for love, like in business - Eva, who is the Executive Producer on the upcoming reality dating show - Ready For Love, told Kit Hoover and guest co-host Lisa Rinna. I am always pairing people up for business and romantically as well, the star continued,

explaining that she’s helped facilitate projects with writers, direc-tors and producers. As for her upcoming NBC reality series, Eva is ecstatic about her new project. It is so good! I can’t wait for you guys to see it, she said. It’s just really well done. It’s a modern take on the relationship format. The upcoming series – coming to NBC this winter with hosts Giuliana and Bill Rancic – will use Facebook and a team of skilled matchmakers to match women with three men who are committed to finding the right match to share their lives with.

ALOHABen Stiller and Jonah Hill

Sources say Fox is picking up a Hawaii-set comedy pitch as a development project that would see heavyweights Stiller and Hill attached to star and Levy attached to direct. The trio also would act as producers. Nicholas Stoller, the screenwriter who worked with Hill on Get Him to the Greek, is in negotiations to pen the script, based on an idea by Hill. Stiller and Hill fleshed out on the set of The Watch, Fox’s sci-fi comedy that opens soon and is produced by Levy and his Fox-based banner, 21 Laps. Loglines are being kept close to the vest, but it’s vaguely described as an island-set comedy. With that Aloha title, Hawaii seems like the probable locale. The final involvement of the three A-listers will be up to scheduling and Stoller’s script.

JOHN ABRAHAMAngry With Bipasha

John Abraham is miffed with Bipasha Basu’s recent comments, which clearly hint that John Abraham has cheated on Bipasha. Now, it seems that John has taken his revenge by asking the makers of Shootout At Wadala to drop Bipasha from the film. It was reported earlier that Bipasha Basu is doing a cameo in Shootout At Wadala. She was supposed to play the character of Chitra, opposite Sabir (played by Manoj Bajpayee), who is Dawood Ibrahim’s elder brother in the film. John Abraham is playing the role of gangster Manya Surve. But now John has asked the producers to replace Bipasha. In her recent inter-views, she said many things about his past relationship with John. She also hinted that John cheated on her and John was two timing her with Priya, his present girlfriend.

KAREENA KAPOOROut of Ram Leela Kareena Kapoor, who was supposed to be a part of filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s upcoming film Ram Leela, has walked out of the film. While Bebo has given the excuse of her date issues for dropping Ram

Leela, Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s source has revealed the oth-er part of the story. Accord-ing to the source, Kareena can’t be Leela from his film, since she is getting married this year. A source close to Bhansali told a leading daily, - ‘A Juliet no matter how far removed from Shakespeare’s original vision of her can-not be a married woman.’ With images of her wedding festivities flashing all over, it would have been impossible for Kareena to pass herself as a Gujju Juliet, despite her great talent. Deepika Padu-kone is very keen to do this role and she is doing every-thing possible to steal the role. A source told a lead-ing daily, - ‘Priyanka was all but finalized for Ram Leela. Bhansali and PC were in constant touch though she’s abroad working on her in-ternational music album.’ In fact, even her clothes were finalized. And now Deepika has in her petition for the

modern day Juliet, even though she was never on Bhansali’s radar. Interestingly, Bhansali was impressed with Deepika Padukone’s per-formance after watching Cocktail. So, what do you think? Who would suit better for the role of Juliet, Priyanka Chopra or Deepika Padukone?

LIFE OF RAJESH KHANNAIn 1960-1970, Kaka was in a relationship with Anju Mahendru and it lasted for seven years and they broke up. In 1973, Kaka tied the knot with actress Dimple Kapadia and had two children – Twinkle and Rinkie Khanna. Unfortunately, they were separated in 1984, but weren’t divorced. He also had an af-fair with Tina Munim for a shorter period. Known as the first superstar of Hindi cinema, Kaka appeared in as many as 163 Hindi films and made his debut with Aakhri Khat in 1966. He rose to fame with his amazing performance in films like - Raaz, Baharon Ke Sapne, Ittefaq, Aradhana, Kati Patang, Amar Prem, Shehzada, Apna Desh, Mere Jeevan Saathi, Aap Ki Kasam, Ajnabee, Namak Haraam, Maha Chor, Karm, Phir Wohi Raat, Aanchal, Kudrat, Ashanti, Agar Tum Na Hote, Awaaz, Hum Dono and Alag Alag. Kaka bagged three Filmfare Best Actor Awards and fourteen times he was nominated for the same award. He four times won the BFJA Best Actor Award.

In 2005, he was honoured with the Filmfare Lifetime Achievement Award. Undoubtedly, Kaka had a very huge fan following. He used to be mobbed whenever he appeared in public and his car used to have the lipstick marks of her female fans all over it. Many of his female fans sent him letters written with their blood. Mimicry artists copy his style even today. According to film critic Monojit Lahiri, girls married themselves to photographs of Rajesh Khanna, cutting their fingers and applying the blood as sindoor. A source quoted late superstar Rajesh Khanna’s bungalow will reportedly be converted into a museum as per his daughters’ wish. There are plans to convert Aashirwad into a mu-seum, but nothing has been finalized yet. The family members will take the decision after Rajesh Khanna’s chautha. It’s his daughters Twinkle and Rinke’s wish to do so. It will be called Rajesh Khanna Museum and his precious things will be kept in the museum.

AKON SIGNED! NTR’S BaadshahJunior NTR’s upcoming movie - Baadshah, is scheduled to hit the screens on coming Sankranthi festival in 2013. But the curiosity about the film has already reached sky high. The movie has been in news for its story and hero’s role and look. The addition of Akon to its team is adding a lot to its curiosity. Now the rumour mills in the T-Town are abuzz with the news that director Srinu Vaitla wants to rope in interna-tional singer Akon to croon a special song for the movie - Baadshah. If we are to go by the latest reports, the popular actor is currently in talks with the team of the American R&B and Hip-Hop singer. Music direc-tor SS Thaman, who is composing the music for the film, is said to be all excited about the latest developments. The successful composer is desperately looking forward to work with Akon. If everything goes according to the plans of the makers, this would be a dream come true project for him. Meanwhile, producer Ganesh Babu is all thrilled to sign up Akon for his much-hyped movie Baadshah. The producer, who has planned to release the audio of the film, is reportedly ready to shell out any amount of money to bring this singer on board.

MAHESH BABU Blessed With A Girl

Mahesh Babu and wife Namrata Shirodh-kar were blessed with a baby girl recently. The former Miss In-dia turned Bollywood actress, delivered the healthy baby girl in a normal delivery at 8.15 am, at a private hospital. According to a source close to the couple, Namrata was admitted in hospital in the night and her husband Ma-hesh Babu was by her side all through the de-livery. Both mother and baby were fine. Mahesh Babu’s father Krishna, sisters and close fam-ily members were seen visiting the hospital ear-ly that day. The couple also have a 6-year-old-son, Gautam. Mahesh Babu got married to the Bollywood actress Namrata Shirodkar in February, 2005 in Mum-bai after dating for five years. They starred to-gether in the movie Vamsi in 2000 and the movie became big hit at the Box Office.

TRISHA No To RemakeActress Trisha, who entered Bollywood with Akshay Kumar’s film Khatta Meetha, is very busy with her projects in south and she has no time for new offers in Hindi. If we are to go by the reports, the popular south Indian star has turned down the offer of actor-turned-director Prabhu Deva, who wants to remake hit Telugu film Nuvvost-hanane Nenoddantana in Hindi. It was reported earlier that Trisha had rejected the Hindi remake of director KS Ravikumar’s Tamil film

Saamy, starring Sanjay Dutt. Just few days after this, the actress has said no to another Hindi re-make. Sources claim that her close friend Prabhu Deva had approached her for the remake of Nuvvosthanane Nenod-dantana, but she turned down his offer saying she cannot give bulk dates for the project. Sources close to Trisha say that the mak-ers of the Prabhu Deva’s remake wanted the ac-tress to give bulk dates, which she could not ac-commodate. Dates of the Bollywood film were clashing with the dates of her other projects. So the actress walked out of this big budget film. The director has approached actress Shruti Hassan, who is currently in talks with him.

SHOAIB AKTHARTeams Should Not Tour Pak

Shoaib Akhtar has ruffled feath-ers in the PCB and in govern-ment circles by suggesting that the board should avoid inviting foreign teams to the country. The former Pakistan speedster said teams should not visit Paki-stan because of the security situ-ation there. Akhtar, who would regularly clash with the estab-lishment during his playing days, told reporters in Rawalpindi that condition in Pakistan was not conducive for inviting for-eign teams to play international cricket. Our citizens are not safe and there is a war going on in the country. Therefore, inviting a team in these conditions will be risky, he said. What if a visit-ing team is attacked again? So I would advice to the PCB not to invite foreign teams since the country is not in a position to stage any international event, he added. Reacting to his state-ment, a board official said Shoaib needed to understand the sensitivities of some issues. No Test playing nation has visited Pakistan since militants attacked the Sri Lankan cricket team in La-hore in March 2009. And the PCB were being forced to organize its home series abroad at neutral venues with most of these being played in the United Arab Emir-ates in the last three years.

SVISHWANATHAN ANANDLONDON OLYMPICS 2012

World Chess Champion Viswanathan Anand, expressed opti-mism that in the coming Olympics, India would get more med-als than the previous games. He was expecting more medals for India in the London Olympics and there could be at least one gold medal this time, Anand told. On Chess, he said - India could become a super power in the sport in the next 10 years. There is no consistency at the senior level. This will change. Youngsters are doing very well in the under 20 age group, internationally. When they come to senior level, India could become a chess su-per power, he said. Asked if Chess would become part of Olym-pics, he said - It appears very remote now. It is not impossible. Right now it is remote. Success does not happen by chance. It is the result of hard work, positive attitude, strategic thinking and making the most of the opportunities that life offers us. Viswana-than Anand has always demonstrated great sportsmanship abil-ities by translating challenges into turning point moments in his life. His phenomenal win in the recent World Championship is one such example which the youngsters of today can emulate.

GRAEME MCDOWELLOpen ChampionshipGraeme McDowell, already has a dream pairing in his mind for the final round of the Open Championship - but it is with former college rival Brandt Snedeker and not Tiger Woods. Snedeker, equaled the lowest halfway total in Open history of 130 by adding a flawless 64 to his opening 66 at Royal Lytham, but McDowell had no qualms about making up a six-shot deficit after rounds of 67 and 69 left him four under. I haven’t quite gotten into fifth gear. I am probably still in third gear, fourth gear, said the 32-year-old Ulsterman, who was second in the recent US Open after lifting the trophy in 2010. And you just have to play the waiting game a little bit when the golf courses are this hard. I know we’ve got some wind forecast, so if you can be within four or five shots going, that’s right where you need to be. I think the tougher the better for me. I’d like to see the wind, get it up to 10, 15 miles an hour and let’s really test us out here.

From the #1 New York Times bestselling author Nicho-las Sparks comes a tender

story of hope and joy; of sacri-fice and forgiveness - a moving reminder that love is possible at any age, at any time and often comes when we least expect it. At forty-five, Adrienne Wil-lis must rethink her entire life when her husband abandons her for a younger woman. Reel-ing with heartache and in search of a respite, she flees to the small coastal town of Rodanthe, North Carolina to tend to a friend’s inn for the weekend. But when a major storm starts moving in, it appears that Adrienne’s perfect getaway will be ruined - until a guest named Paul Flanner arrives. At fifty-four, Paul has just sold his medi-cal practice and come to Rodanthe to escape his own shattered past. Now, with the storm closing in, two wounded people will turn to each other for comfort and in one weekend set in motion feelings which will resonate throughout the rest of their lives. For anyone who sees strik-ing similarities between this plot and that of The Bridges of Madison County, you win a bonus point. There are so many thematic overlaps that we are calling this Bridges for the New Century.

In the summer of 1973, Joe Castle was the boy wonder of Baseball, the greatest rookie

anyone had ever seen. The kid from Calico Rock, Arkansas daz-zled Cub fans as he hit home run after home run, politely tipping his hat to the crowd as he shat-tered all rookie records. Calico Joe quickly became the idol of every baseball fan in America, including Paul Tracey, the young son of a hard-partying and hard-throwing Mets pitcher. On the day that Warren Tracey finally faced Calico Joe, Paul was in the stands, rooting for his idol but also for his Dad. Then War-ren threw a fastball that would change their lives forever. In John Grisham’s new novel the Baseball is thrilling, but it’s what happens off the field that makes Calico Joe, a classic. It is a surprising and a mov-ing novel of fathers and sons, forgiveness and redemption, set in the world of Major League Baseball. Grisham’s love for the game shines through in the narrative - folk of a small town rooting for their star and the adulation among young fans collecting cards, newspaper cut outs and sitting glued to the radio during matches, the team rivalry and the detailed commentary in the matches.

The Donovans re-main one of Nora Roberts’ most un-

forgettable families. Cap-tivated is the first book in Donovan trilogy. This one is short and sweet. Mor-gana is a witch, natural born. Nash makes mov-ies about the paranormal and wants to interview the local legend - a witch. So, Morgana agrees to give him some insight. Nash doesn’t believe Morgana is truly a witch. He thinks she just capi-talized on the legend to boost sales at her shop. Although she tries in vain to convince him she’s a witch, he stubbornly refuses to believe, until he finds himself falling for her. Once he realizes Morgana is telling the truth and admits to himself that he’s in love with her, Nash starts to have doubts. Love wins out eventually, but there are a few bumps in the road on the way. This is classic Nora Roberts. It is a sweet fairy tale book with no violence and very little language, with a happy end-ing. The book may be available and published with other install-ments of the trilogy. Nash and Morgana characters are adorable. Their story was fast-paced, easy to read and thoroughly enjoyable.

Wanting only a peaceful, obscure life; Dewey Andreas has gone to rural Australia, far from turbulent forces which he once fought against. But powerful men, seeking re-

venge, have been scouring the earth looking for Dewey. And now, they’ve finally found him - forcing Dewey to abandon his home and to fight for his life against a very well armed, well trained group of assassins. Meanwhile, a radical cleric has been elected president of Pakistan and upon taking power, sets off a rapidly escalating conflict with India. As the situation spins quickly out of control, it becomes clear that India is only days from resorting to a nuclear response, one that will have unimagin-ably disastrous results for the world at large. With only days to head this off, the President sends in his best people, in-cluding Jessica Tanzer, to do whatever it takes to restore the fragile peace to the region. Tanzer has only one viable option - to set up and execute a coup d’etat in Pakistan - and only one man in mind to lead the team that will try to pull off this almost unimaginable task in the nerve-wracking short time frame, Dewey Andreas.

A Day From Shipra Gand hi ’s Diary. .

Page 40: Tulip Magazine Aug Issue

After waking up at 6:30, the first thing I do is to pray God, asking him to give me a wonderful day ahead. I wake my son, send him to school, freshen up and do my Surya Namaskar and Yoga. After that, I do my daily prayers with meditation. Then I play with my darling daughter, who gives me all the happiness that I want. I also have a nice chat with Mom over phone.

ROLE OF BEST FRIENDS IN LIFEI have been very lucky to have wonderful friends in my life. I have a few friends who are always there for me even before I tell that I need them. My brother is my best friend with whom I share anything and everything to him.

BEST THING ABOUT MY PROFESSIONMy profession is a blessing to me. I have a parlour named Shivani Herbal Beauty Parlour. This parlour is a gift from my Mom to me. She started the parlour 27 years back and since 9 years, I have joined hands with her. I enjoy my work to the core. I have so much to teach and also learn from people in this profession. Our parlour has a solution to almost all beauty and hair problems. We specialize in our herbal treatments, permanent make-up, non-surgical ear lobe repair, permanent removal of unwanted facial hair and other services.

The best thing about my profession is that I work with my Mom. Which girl doesn’t want this opportunity to meet her Mom regularly, even after marriage? Here we get a chance to deal with smart and professional ladies. We give best of our services and in return gain so much of respect, appreciation and knowledge from them.

By the grace of god, I am super happy with my life and feel like a princess, because I have been blessed with the best of best family and friends. My husband not only loves me beyond limits, but also pampers. I am blessed with two children - Ishan and Etasha. I am a lucky Mom to be pampered by my children as well. My son says that I am the best Mom in the whole world and that’s a lifetime award to me. I am a darling doll of my Papa and Mamma. My papa calls me Doll and also treats me like one. I consider myself to be the happiest and the luckiest person in the world to be blessed with the best of everything.

One thing you always wanted to achieve?I wanted to experience different dimensions of life. I like to take up everything life has to offer me.

What is more important – fitness? Or fashion?Of course, fitness! Without health and fitness, there is no fashion for me.

How do you plan on devoting time for fitness and fash-ion? Fitness is my way of life. It’s my culture! It’s like brushing my teeth every day. So there is no planning needed. But fash-ion is my passion and I pursue it. I actually like to pursue anything which is creatively challenging.

Your secret of success? There is no secret for me as such! The day you realize that success is a journey and not a destination, you will keep on setting milestones.

What was the toughest professional hurdle you ever faced and how did you overcome it?There has never been one. I believe that with time manage-ment and discipline, you can prevent most of those.

If God grants you two wishes, what would they be?A healthy and wealthy life! The rest can be achieved.

Where do you wish to see your brand, in the next five years?Definitely at the national level and beyond.

Your first dream when you were a kid?As a kid, I always wanted to take up medicine as a career. The sole reason for this was my parents showed so much passion for the field and always worked not merely for fi-nance, but for passion to help people.

One thing you always wanted to achieve in life?I always wanted to stand out as a person who gave some-thing different to the world, which the world would recog-nize and appreciate. I want to make a difference in not only the world but try and change it as much as I can, to make it a better place not only for me, but for everyone.

Your secret of success? My parents are my secret of success! They have always taught me that life is a roller-coaster. When you’re up, don’t lose yourself and when you are down, learn from it and you will come up again. Have the serenity to accept things you cannot change. Have the courage to change things you can. Have the knowledge to differentiate between things you can or cannot change, along with people I work with, irrespective of their designation. The greatest lessons I have learnt, are from the smallest of people.

Toughest professional hurdle you ever faced and how did you overcome it?When I joined Aalankrita Resort as a trainee, my father came to me one day and told me, that I have to take over all opera-tions of the resort, as a Manager from the next day. I really did not have much knowledge of the industry then, as I was studying and working at the same time as a trainee. With planned guidance and moral support from my parents, I overcame it all!

If God grants you two wishes, what would they be?To make all people positive! As negativity is a carrier which can destroy not only an individual, but also people around, which in turn affects the whole world.

Where do you wish to see your brand, in the next five years? In the next 5 years, I see Aalankrita reaching a national level and making our country proud.

Your first dream when you were a kid?As a kid and like most others at this stage, I did not have a specific or concrete dream. But when I turned 16, a dream grew within me to start a salon and I was adamant of achieving this, even if it meant struggling against all odds.

One thing you always wanted to achieve in life?To achieve and maintain peace, happiness and a transparent relationship with the people around me; irrespective of their status.

Your secret of success?Total dedication, sincere focus and following the chang-es in the industry - so that I can quickly upgrade myself whenever the need arises.

Toughest professional hurdle you ever faced and how did you overcome it?The year 2003-2004 was a bleak year for us as, our business was not doing the way we had planned. In order to resur-rect ourselves, we had to make major changes like relocat-ing the Anoo’s salon from residential to commercial area, opening up the salon services opportunity for both men and women, so that we had a wider audience to reach out to. It was also the year when we started germinating the idea of working towards opening a beauty school, because we realized the industry was desperately in need of profes-sionally trained technicians. On the whole, our toughest professional hurdle turned out to be a blessing in disguise, as we were able to expand our offerings to reach out to wider audience.

If God grants you two wishes, what would they be?- Everyone should look beautiful inside and outside- There should be no inequality

Where do you wish to see your brand, in the next five years? Currently Anoo’s is present in 12 Indian cities, with 17 facili-ties and one in the USA. Our next plan is to add 19 more centers in Karnataka, Tamil Nadu and of course, in Andhra Pradesh.

Your first dream when you were a kid?As a kid, I wanted to open many retail stores / supermarkets, become a teacher. I also remember having memory streaks of wanting to become a Brain Surgeon.

One thing you always wanted to achieve in life?I always wanted to earn money, create corporations while contributing to the environment. My vision is also to cre-ate low cost environment friendly solutions for emerging economies including India and Africa.

Your secret of success?Pushing yourself to do little more than you can, getting out of your comfort zone and trying and adding value to ev-erything and everyone around. When you start giving and contributing, you start receiving in double folds.

Toughest professional hurdle you ever faced and how did you overcome it?Few years back when I decided to bring about change in my 30 year old family business which was very traditionally run, to transition it into a multinational run business which is more socialist in nature. There was resistance from the board and senior management employees, as they thought they will lose the power of control and there was resistance from the low and mid level employees as they were fearful of their jobs. I started doing orientation, ice-breaking pro-grams, celebrating birthdays and festivals, which bridged the gap. When the board members saw that this was add-ing to the bottom-line, the change was finally welcomed.

If God grants you two wishes, what would they be?I have a big sweet tooth, but I control a lot (laughs). So my wish would be to eat anything and everything sweet I like without worrying about getting fat. To keep my immediate family and best friends close to me always. I can’t imagine a day without them.

Where do you wish to see your company, in the next five years?I envision my company being prominently present in more than 20 countries especially in Asia and Africa, employing thousands of employees across the globe and making en-ergy efficient solutions, which save carbon footprints and contribute to the environment.

Your first dream when you were a kid? When I was a kid, I surely wanted to be an actor like Salman Khan. Once I finished my education and entered business, Donald Trump has always been my idol.

One thing you always wanted to achieve in life?To be the best in whatever I do and give my 100%.

Your secret of success? My secret to success is my desire, determination and dedi-cation into my work and the discipline I try to inculcate into my day-to-day life.

Toughest professional hurdle you ever faced and how did you overcome it?To convince my family to let me diversify into business ventures abroad and the red-tapism I encountered with our various projects in India and I overcome it with my per-sistence and my family’s help.

If God grants you two wishes, what would they be?I can proudly say, I have fulfilled all my wishes till date. If God was kind enough to grant me two more wishes, the first one would be to never let me disappoint my fam-ily and friends. Secondly, I want to reach my idol Donald Trump and make a difference to the society I live in and my name should always be taken with love and respect.

If you wish to change something about your profes-sion / field of interest, what would it be?Today we have diversified into power, infra, entertainment and nuclear technology. I never do anything I don’t like. Hence the question of me wanting to change something would never arise because I don’t let myself be in that po-sition.

Where do you wish to see your company, in the next five years? In the next five years, I see my companies listed in the New York stock exchange.

The best thing about subtle make up is it doesn’t take much time and makes you look naturally beautiful. Along with this, it camouflages your flaws as well as highlighting your best features. It also avoids smudging and other make up disasters.

Tulip meets up with Manju Mahesh Babani, make-up artist from Bos-ton, Massachusetts. She has done her make-up course from Bharat and Doris at Mumbai and worked for them for two years; after running her parlor The Look at Banjara Hills, she moved to Boston and has worked for Estee Lauder for three years and now runs her own parlor.

What is subtle make-up?

Subtle make-up is of three types - frost make-up, nude make-up and natural look. Frost makeup involves use of light shades and tones for the skin like light peaches and pinks. Nude make-up is the look which is given to ac-tresses shooting commercials it involves on base makeup which matches the skin tone and doesn’t look like any make up has been put on. While nat-ural look is making your own skin glow, it is also known as the scrubbed look in which you just a apply a tint moisturizer which is very good for this weather as it sticks to the skin and blends along

with the skin and is actually no make-up at all along with a little lip balm.

What kind of products can be used to get the subtle look?A tinted moisturizer should be used you can use one from Clinique. Studio fix foundation from MAC is an excellent foundation as it also has moisturizing ef-fect as well has an inbuilt sunscreen. One can pick a tone which suits the skin. Also one can mix a little sunscreen with their foundation, but make sure your founda-tion is waterproof. As for mascara one can use waterproof transparent mascara from Dior. This will enhance your lashes. And if you are a big fan of your kohl pencil, then the waterproof kohl pencil from Lancôme is the best as it doesn’t smudge and stays good all day long. For the lips you can choose rusty nude by MAC for the day and Hot kiss by Estee Lauder for the night.

How to get the subtle look for the day?One must start of by applying a sunscreen (Neutrogena). Apply a tinted moisturizer and blend it well along the jaw line and neck and also the shoulders if you wearing a strappy or off shouldered dress. Use a brown shade of mascara instead of the regular black as this will

Rains are loved by all, but monsoon is a time when your skin gets worse due the humidity in the air. It causes a combination of oiliness and sweat which can do harm. Subtle make up is the in-thing during monsoons, as it is about being naturally sexy. A subtle make-up look allows you to enhance your features without the obviousness that excessive make-up applications offer. The

most beautiful faces are those where the make-up does not take over the face, but adds to the features. It’s all about enhancing your beauty and looks like absolutely minimal or no make-up has been applied. It is especially positive when you draw extra attention to one of your favorite features such as your eyes or lips. Subtle makeup can help improve your appearance without drawing over attention to itself.

BEAUTYhigh lighten your eyes. Apply a single coat of clear waterproof mascara and apply a blush in peach or light pink and blend it using a cotton ball. And as for lips, stick to neural shades - light pinks peaches or coral.

There is a myth that subtle look is only meant for the day, but it does wonders in the night. How to get the subtle look for the night?Of course subtle make-up can be used for night as well and it also adds the dash of glamour and class which the gothic lips can never add. For this you must start of by applying a moisturizing foundation which has a slight tint of shimmer in it, do not overdo it and blend along the neck and shoulders as well. To high lighten the check bones you can use Glee by Estee Lauder it has a little shimmer in it and thus must be used at night only. You can high lighten the eyes with a gold eye shadow this will give them a dramatic yet subtle look. You can use black mascara at

night but just a single coat and do not over do by adding fake lashes. A lit-tle kohl can be added to the eyes but avoid the smoky and gothic look for the monsoons. Pan stick rouge by Mac can also be used as it is not pow-dery and will blend in well with the moisturizer. For lips, avoid the lip-liner and use a high shine gloss and you will be all set for a beautiful night out.

Which colours involve in subtle make-up?Lots of nudes and natural colours like pinks, beiges, light brown and even gold is included in subtle make up. Peach is a very important colour. It highlights the skin and camouflages the make-up. It looks like hardly any make up has been put on.

Make-up Tips

F Always sanitize your hands before applying any make-up.

F Start off with the base make-up. Always see to it the base blends properly along the hairline jaw line neck and shoulders. Then use the highlighter and do the eyes and finally the lips.

F A little makeup is usually better than no makeup, but less is more.

F Choose one facial features to highlight. Apply makeup to your entire face: eyes, lips and cheeks, but choose only one to highlight. If you are creating a bold eye statement, don’t overdo it on the lips and cheeks. Apply a neutral shade on the lips and cheeks to focus attention on your eyes. Over-emphasizing all your facial features results in clown makeup

F Always carry paper napkin to dab the skin lightly and avoid sweat and bacteria.

F Always bronze your skin rather than blush. If you are very fair, then should you use a blush on.

F Use toners as they help to close the pores which open up due to humidity.

F Matt primers, lotions are the trick to look perfect.

F Always carry a splash sunscreen during the day and apply after every 2 hours as it prevents the skin from ageing tan-ning and breakage.

F Always remember to clean up even though it is a subtle make-up.

F Never shave off your eyebrows and draw them on. Eye-brows are part of a well-defined face.

‘Soft and subtle are the two words that define my make-up. The reason why I apply subtle make-up is because it looks natural and very light. I don’t like the excessive made-up look. It’s natural and doesn’t shout for attention and still enhances my best features. I use Maybelline Dream Matte Mousse which matches my skin tone and gives a nude look with a tinge of Revelon’s rosy nude lip-gloss and a dash of mascara from max factor and am ready to go.’

- Namrata SatwaniStudent

‘I love subtle make-up because you can never go wrong with it. It’s ideal for all occasions and sea-sons. When I go out, I apply moisturizer, prep and primes compact, a little kohl, a light lipstick or a lip-gloss. And I also make sure to use good brands, because it is the safest option to a healthy skin.’

P SPECIAL

Before the 18th century, India’s relationship with the west had been pre-dominantly trade-related. All this changed, when the forces of the East India Company defeated Siraj-ud-Daulah, the Nawab of Calcutta. That

signaled the arrival of the British. Until the Sepoy Mutiny of 1857, the East India Company, with the Governor General as its head ruled India. The country

witnessed the rise of several leaders like - Gopal Krishna Gokhale, Jawa-harlal Nehru, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel and others. Banded under the leadership of Mahatma Gandhi and his principle of non-violence, the freedom struggle moved ahead with new vigor. With milestones like - Quit India Movement, Non-Cooperation Movement, Khilafat Move-ment and Gandhi’s Dandi March, India got closet to Independence.

As India moved into August 15, Jawaharlal Nehru (the first Prime Min-ister), read out the decisive speech, proclaiming India’s independence from the British rule. The moment ended three centuries of British rule over India. Independence Day remained the only national festival, until it declared itself a republic in 1950.

The day is celebrated to commemorate birth of the world’s biggest democracy. All the schools and colleges across nation hoist the na-tional flag on the rooftops and the buildings to symbolize the stature of the national flag as nation’s pride. Not only the educational institu-tions, but also offices and business areas celebrate this day. People only

go to offices to attend the flag hoisting ceremony. The Prime Minister addresses the Nation after the flag has been unfurled recounting the country’s achievements of the year, discussing current major issues and future plans for the progress of the country. Kite-flying has also be-come a tradition on this day and people can be seen flying numerous kites of all colours, sizes and shapes symbolizing the freedom. Tributes are paid to the freedom fighters who sacrificed their lives.

Along with soaring cadences of national anthem, hopes and dreams for a better tomorrow are renewed in political speeches and replays of the deeds of those who earned us our freedom. Independence Day is an occasion to rejoice in our freedom and to pay collective homage to those who sacrificed their lives, for the nation’s better future. The day also marks the coming together of the all the states. This was probably our biggest diplomatic success.

At the stroke of the midnight hour, when the world sleeps, India will awake to life and freedom. A moment comes, which comes but rarely in history, when we step out from the old to the new. India rediscovers itself.- Jawaharlal NehruHere’s Tulip wishing readers, a very happy Independence Day. Let us all join hands and take an oath to turn your city cleaner, greener and also to help people as much as we can.

Rakhi Utsav was first popularized by Rabindranath Tagore to promote the feeling of unity and a commitment to all members of society to protect each other and encourage a harmonious social life.

This festival is not a ritual, custom and tradition that can change over time; but its style of celebration has become contemporary. Since ages, Raksha Bandhan is being celebrated in the same way. All the traditions are followed with the same enthusiasm.

Everyone start preparing for this festival much in advance. About a week before the commencement of Raksha Bandhan, you can see fancy and colourful rakhis available to purchase from every market. Ladies start shopping for rakhi and rakhi gifts quite early. They shop for new clothes and beautiful gifts, particularly the ones which have to be sent to brothers living afar.

In today’s scenario, the day has a different perspective. The occa-sion involves a pledge of life-time practice of moral, cultural and spiritual values. The values and the sentiments attached to the rituals of this festival are worth inculcating by the whole human race, the sentiments of harmony and peaceful coexistence. The ritual of Rakhi tying has become so important that, come what may, brothers and sisters try to visit each other place on this par-ticular day in order to bring back the oneness of the family, bind-ing the family together in an emotional bond of love.

Celebrating Raksha Bandhan

Relationship is the essence of any festivity. It holds true for every Indian festival. Each occasion brings the family together which calls for a celebration. Raksha Bandhan is a celebration of one such relation - that of a brother and a sister. It is a festival which celebrates the bond and affection between brothers and sisters. It is a day when siblings pray for each others’ well being and wish for each others’ happiness and goodwill. Brothers make a promise to their sisters to protect them from all harms and troubles and the sisters pray to God to protect their brother from all evil. Sisters tie the silk thread called Rakhi on their brother’s wrist and pray for their well being and brothers promise to take care of their sisters.

Prabhjyot quotes ‘Raksha Bandhan is a fraternal festival, is celebrated with fervor in India. The sister ties a sacred thread around the brother’s wrist, feeds him sweets and wishes him the best. The brother, in return blesses his sister and gives her gifts, pledging to be around if she ever needed him. My brother Harpreet is the best brother anyone can have. He is such a gentle person, with warmth and affection for everyone. But I have no doubt that he loves me the most. When he was away studying abroad, I used to miss him the most during this festival. Thank-fully, he is with me this time. I have got a new outfit stitched for this Rakhi and have already brought the auspicious thread that I will tie on his strong wrist. He hates big, decorative rakhis, so I have brought him a simple silver rakhi. I have also bought him a watch that he had been eying for a long time. Last time, he gave me a dress size too big. I hope he gets me the skirt that I re-ally, really want. I have dropped subtle hints also. I know he is very caring, but I hope he is smart and has understood the hints. I love him, nevertheless.’

When you think of Ramzan, what suddenly strikes is lip smacking Hy-derabadi Haleem. Almost every person gets to indulge in Haleem. It is a stew composed of meat, lentil and pounded wheat made into a thick paste. It originated as an Arabic dish and was introduced to the Hyder-abad by the Arabs during the Nizam of Hyderabad rule. Blended with regional traditional spices, it formed a unique Hyderabadi Haleem. Popular Haleem outlets in town, during Ramzan are - Pista House, Shah Ghouse, Sarvi, Shadaab, Bahar café and Hy-line.

Ramzan is the ninth month in Islamic calendar. This is a month in which my family and I wait for eagerly. Ramzan is filled with so much of meaning and goodness. It is a time of spiritual reflection and worship. My kids wait for Iftar – a meal where the entire family joins in to undo their fasting. The meal starts with dates. And not to forget the yummy Haleem – the most awaited dish for my kids and it’s served all through the month as the month comes to an end and when we sight the moon, we start preparing for Eid-ul-Fitr which marks the end of Ramzan. Eid is a very special day for us. The family celebrates Eid in the best dressed attire and it’s a day filled with celebrations, as the entire family greets each other along with relatives and friends.

- Fatima KhanBusinesswoman

This year Ramzan is going to be quite special for me, as I am transforming from being a silent spectator and an enthusiastic guest, to being a host. All this while, Ramzan used to be all about shopping, lights, Iftar Parties and undoubtedly - Haleem. But now, being with my wife (Farha), I have learnt the essence of Ramzan. I am quite thrilled and amazed to know the beauty of this month and be a part of it. In terms of celebrations it’s going to be a lot of Haleem, shopping, hosting an Iftar party, trying my hand at fasting and to welcome guests at my homemade sheer kurma on the festival of Eid.

- Srinivas GunishettyPage 3 Entertainments

Every year I wait for this month to come in. My friends invite me for Iftar parties. Wearing traditional attire is one more interesting aspect about this festival. Going for shopping during the evenings is exciting! I truly love the essence of Ramzan, because religion binds you together as one. There is joy and peace among every celebrating family. I wish the readers of Tulip, a very happy festive time. Cheers!

Vibha – It was during my college days, when I met Anand first, through a common friend. After having a beautiful courtship for two months, we got married at a young age in 2002. We had been to Switzerland for our first anniversary. We were spellbound by the way people decorated their homes. It inspired us to design our home the same way. Working as a teacher at a playschool after marriage was a fantastic experience until Kabir was born in 2007. I then quit work as I had to take care of him. Together we enjoyed holidaying at beautiful destinations like – Hong Kong, Makau, Singapore and Bali. One of the fondest memories of Anand picking me up from my home and going for long drives in my old car and also on his bike often, while hiding our faces in hel-mets, before marriage (laughs). He also used to gift me cards and roses frequently. I still have them safe with me. We are foodies - while I love Chinese, he prefers Indian cuisine. We have good memories connected to every place we used to meet at before getting married. With love marriage being not so common during that time, when we got mar-ried, the whole town talked about it.

Anand – My grandfather came to Hyderabad from Mumbai as he had his work factory here. After that, he had set up his own business into hardware here. He was blessed with five sons. But we are into construc-tions and steel industry also.

Coming to our married life, Vibha and I love partying and socializing. We plan our weekend to be fun-filled. So we have a huge group of friends and meet them every Saturday. But we make it a point to spend Sundays only with family, either at home, watching television and relax-ing or by going out for lunch or dinner. I love catching up with my old friends and partying with them. My principle in life, is to work hard to make money and to attain a lifestyle of my own choice. Although I have an elder sister and a younger brother, I was pampered the most by my parents and I am close to them equally. My grandfather makes it a point to visit my home every morning, just to drop my son to his school, have breakfast with us, before leaving to work. We then meet again in office. As a kid, I travelled a lot with my Dad to many places within India. I got

You don’t need to be on the same wavelength to succeed in marriage. You just need to be able to ride each other’s waves. On a tete-a-tete, Vibha and Anand Mehta talk to Tulip about being friends for a long time and how things changed to better, after marriage…

KINSHIPthe same amount of love and care from my in-laws after marriage, as I always had it from my parents. They accepted and welcomed me well into their family, which was so overwhelming.

Vibha – I was born and brought-up in Hyderabad. Though I wasn’t pampered much, I got enough love from my parents. I wanted to be independent and live by myself, which my Dad didn’t appreciate. But after marriage, everything fell in place. My Mom taught me important family values and ethics. She also taught me to live an organized life. I share a great rapport with my el-der cousin sister (Pragati), who now resides in USA. I also have a brother (Sumeet), who is just five months elder to me and works in Banga-lore. Memories of playing Hide-n-seek and Peek-a-boo with cousins are still afresh in my mind and will remain as best childhood memories.

THREE BEST MOMENTS OF OUR LIVES

VIBHA – My childhood time with cousins! We never needed friends when they were around.

My college life, going on long drives on bikes, meeting Anand, getting married to him and having a cute son now – all these are the best mo-ments of my life.

ANAND – My family trip to Vaishnodevi, when I was young will be a special trip for me. We are inclined to spirituality and divinity.

Kabir and I holidaying in Bangalore for a few days – it was just the father and son bonding trip. We stayed at my sister’s place.

My college life – I had four best friends from different communities. Every time we went out anywhere, it was always us five. And of course, getting married and having our cute kid – Kabir.

If you could possess any extraordinary talent in one of the arts, what would you choose –Vibha – PaintingAnand – Interior designing

Your first impressions on each other upon meeting first –Vibha – I didn’t like Anand at my first sight (laughs…)Anand – I wanted Vibha to be my life-partner

Two things you are most thankful for in your life right now –Vibha and Anand – Our families and togetherness.

While making decisions, what you put first – facts or feelings –Vibha and Anand – It depends on the situation. But we believe both are equally important.

In your opinion, what makes a great parent –Vibha and Anand - Being disciplined, being a little more caring and by giving more time to kids.

Your idea of a perfect date – Vibha – Going on a bike ride with Anand on Harley Davidson, followed by a date with him. He is crazy about bikes. I would like to gift him one in future. Anand – A candle-lit dinner, followed by a long slow walk at the beach.

If you could relive one day of your childhood, which day would that be –Vibha – My childhood days with my brothers, sisters and the joint fam-ily life.Anand – I want to bring back my schooling days, which was one of the best times of my life, where I had no responsibilities or pressure whatsoever (laughs…)

The best relationship advice you ever got –Vibha – Respect, understand, trust and care (from my Mom).Anand – Be what you are and don’t fake it. Gain respect with what you are (from my Dad).

Why do we get pain? What are the reasons for internal pain? How are they caused?Pain should be considered as a gift of god. Pain is a signal that the body has been damaged or something is wrong. Without pain, it is impossible to know that the body has been injured and will prevent necessary protective mea-sures. Acute Pain usually means something new and or serious has happened and we may need to take action (when we fall and hurt ourselves).Chronic Pain is more commonly associated with an old injury or the slow bodily changes which are painful (e.g., growing pains the pains of wear and tear or old age).

Tell us more about the science involved in relieving pain?Relieving pain needs identifying root cause of body damage, preventing the damage and helping to heal the injury as soon as possible.Pain resolves promptly once the underlying trauma or Pathology has healed and is treated with drugs such as Analgesics and (occasionally) Anxiolytics. Effective management of long term pain, however, frequently requires the co-ordinated efforts of the management team. The typical pain management team includes medical practitioners, clinical psychologists, physiotherapists, occupational therapists and practitioners.

How old is the field of Physiotherapy? How is it different from Medicine? When compared with other health care professions, Physiotherapy is very young and blossoming branch of medicine. Physiotherapy is a health care profession primarily concerned with the remediation of impairments and dis-abilities and the promotion of mobility, functional ability, quality of life and movement potential through examination, evaluation, diagnosis and physical intervention carried out by Physical Therapist. In the United States, primary physical therapy practitioner is the Physical Therapist (PT), who is trained and licensed to examine, evaluate, diagnose and treat impairments, functional limitations and disabilities in patients or clients.

How is the progress of Physiotherapy in India over the last 10 years? The concept of Physiotherapy was established in Britain towards the end of the 19th century. Soon following, American Orthopaedic surgeons began treating children with disabilities and began employing women - trained in physical education, massage and remedial exercises. These treatments were applied and promoted further during the Polio outbreak of 1916. During the World War I, women were recruited to work with and restore physical func-tion to injured soldiers and the field of physiotherapy (physical therapy) was institutionalized. In 1918, the term Reconstruction Aide was used to refer to in-dividuals practicing Physiotherapy (physical therapy). The first school of Phys-iotherapy (physical therapy) was established at Walter Reed Army Hospital in Washington D.C. following the outbreak of World War I. Modern physiotherapy is not limited just to Orthopaedics, but also supporting virtually all branches of health care like - Neuro Sciences, Cardio Pulmonary, Geriatrics, Pediatrics, sports, women health and promoting health as well as preventing disability.

P WELLBEING

AUGUST, 201264- As told to Aditya Tej

Page 67: Tulip Magazine Aug Issue

Some of the major reasons behind drug abuse is financial instability, betrayal, loneliness or sometimes just peer pressure. But one has to un-derstand there is nothing hep or cool about doing drugs. There have been several campaigns held all over the country by actors like - Abhis-kek Bachchan, Priyanka Chopra, DJ/VJ Nikhil Chinnapa and others - all educating the youth against drug abuse.

There is an alarming rise in addiction facilitated by easy availability of drugs. Villa Marie College, organised a campaign against drugs on World Anti-drug Day. This day serves as a reminder of goals agreed by creating an international society free of drugs. This day has been creat-ed to help keep the society clean and free from illegal drugs and drug abuse. The college organised a pro-gram to support this cause and discourage the youth from engaging in illegal drug use and spread aware-ness about the global drug problem. Various com-petitions such as poster making competition, flash mob and also a skit competition in which, around 15 groups actively participated in the competition send-ing out creative and informative messages on harm-ful effects of drugs on youth. The entire college took part in this event.

This is an excellent step taken by Villa Marie. Creating awareness and effectively communicating the real dangers of drugs at this crucial stage of their lives, helps them and in turn helps the society as well. And hence, today’s responsible youth go ahead to become tomorrow’s drug-free citizens. Being responsible also means spreading the word of NO-DRUGS to all our loved ones.

Not only is the college imparting theoretical knowledge, but also im-parting students with moral values so that, these students become responsible citizens tomorrow. The college is taking a step be-yond text book knowledge.

When asked the students about this cam-paign, Shita Jain, student from Advertising final year replied, - ‘Despite many interest-ing and inspiring events being held, the first thing that caught my attention was poster making competition as advertising is my forte. The theme for my poster was Face-book timeline, as today’s generation closely

relates to it. ‘BE THE BEST YOU CAN BE - BE DRUG FREE’ was the message, I conveyed on my poster. I created a fiction user Adam Barak and was inspired by the concept of the Israel Anti Drug Authority - drug’s timeline on Facebook. And I portrayed the powerful parallel journey on Adam Barak and compared a year in his life, while on and off drugs contrasting the experience and shocking imagery that tells the story of a man living on the edge’.

Another student, Surbhi Birmech from B.Com, final year stated - ‘While researching on drugs, I found that there are pop-ular myths about the so called harmlessness of

Marijuana, being very safe but the fact is that it’s very harmful to the young minds and bodies of teenagers and stops physi-cal and metal growth. I had added this idea to the poster. It was with the help and sup-port of our teachers who came up with beautiful ideas of con-ducting competition which helped us to do our part in helping the society go drug free. Also she would like to add in - YOU DONT NEED HEROINE TO BE A HERO. It’s easier to stay off drugs than to get off drugs.’

The best way to make someone aware and create an impact on them, is by getting them involved and that is what Villa Marie College, as an educational institute has done. The college literally thought outside the box and built a campaign on Anti-drugs. Unlike having a discussion or a lecture, the college went on to create a real experience, about the whole messaging in a creative way

Understanding the importance of drugs and its harmful effects, the lecturers sup-ported the cause and encouraged stu-dents to actively participate in the event. - Anureeta Das, lecturer at Villa Marie Col-lege says - The college faculty wanted to spread awareness about this evil in the so-ciety. With the number of rave parties and drug dealers increasing in the city, the col-lege felt the need to come up with the idea of celebrating World Anti Drug Day.

SAY NO TO DRUGS!

- By Chandni Parekh

Drug addiction has acquired epidemic proportion and is running the vital section of the society – the youth. The extent of epidemic can be gauged from the increasing rave parties in the city. No one ever questions the severity of drugs and it is devastating to see the number of teens and adult youth involved in this severe addiction. It’s not academics alone that suffer, but people who use drugs are likely to encourage violent behaviour, steal and abuse all for just the addiction...

MIGHTY MOTORSVARDENCHI DRAGSTERTrue to its name, it has the build style of a monster machine, ready to drag race a quarter mile. The 300 mm* 18’’ rear tyre gives it the enormous appeal when seen from behind, while the 5’’* 21’’ front tyre gives it a nimble handling in the front. The headlamp on the Dragster is an innovative concept at Vardenchi. It has a halogen (white) for the high beam and a projector with HID set up for the low beam; together they are a great combination for the dark alley or highway rid-ing on a starry night. The angel eye around the HID gives it the cool modern look like any high end car lighting system. The wheels are billet aluminum CNC machined out to give the peripheral circular cut outs which add a sporty appeal at standstill and a dynamic look while in motion. Some of the other features which add the cherry on top are the triple function rear indicators, the bar end indicators and the matt black heat wrap on the short blast exhaust. While the Drag-ster has a modern street and cruiser blends, it is the while

paint colour with classic racing stripes which give it an 80’s muscle feel. The Dragster boasts of drawing inspirations from drag racing models. It is an addition to an already impressive range of models including the Infinity, Turbo, Slayer and Sunburn. All bikes have unique characteristics. Painted in black and white, this vehicle stands out from the rest of the range. Be it the dull matte finished wheels or the rear belt drive, it has it all that a custom chopper would need.

SPECIFICATIONS – 500 CC UCE engine, 21 liter fuel tank, double sided swing-arm and rear hidden suspension.

RENAULT ALPINE A110-50Renault has officially released details on its Alpine A110-50 concept. Designed to pay homage to al Alpine A110, the ma-chine wears a body crafted from carbon fiber and dipped in a shade of the same iconic Alpine Blue we all know and love. Up front, designers worked in a set of half-ring yellow LED lights reminiscent of the hood-mounted fog lights found on the original. That’s pretty much where the similarities end, however. Based loosely on the Renault Dezir Concept, the new machine boasts proud fender arches, a wild split-wing rear spoiler and scissor doors. The A110-50 Concept rolls on the same chassis as the Megane Trophy, complete with adjustable Sachs dampers, 21-inch wheels and the notable absences of on-board nannies like ABS or traction control. Hefty 14-inch front brake discs are pressed by six-piston calipers. Renault placed a 3.5-liter V6 mid-ship with a full 400 horsepower on hand. A roof mounted-intake funnels air from outside the engine bay into the machine’s carbon-fiber intake. The gearbox is fitted longitudinally behind the engine and incorporates a limited-slip differential (discs and ramps) with adjustable pre-loading. The cerametallic twin-plate clutch is also specific to the car. It is activated automatically when downshifting, guaranteeing fast and reliable gear changes. Meanwhile, a dual-clutch six-speed gearbox allows the driver the choice of disengaging the transmission via a floor-mounted clutch pedal or shifting via steering-wheel mounted paddles. The carbon-fibre bodywork features a new shade of blue which refreshes and reinterprets the famous original Alpine Blue. Every opening panel does so with dynamics worthy of the finest GTs, with the bonnet hinged at the front and the en-gine bay cover opening towards the rear. The doors feature a scissor motion.

SPECIFICATIONS – 300kW at 7200rpm and 422Nm at 6200rpm, semi-auto six-speed se-quential power transmission, 356mm steel discs and six piston calipers.

MOVIES IN AUGUSTREVIEWS

THE DARK KNIGHT RISESThe Dark Knight Rises, is burdened by high expectations - which the film-maker fulfils. The third and climactic instalation of Nolan’s Dark trilogy is a pop culture epic. Nolan’s art and the technology that aids it, has grand, breathtaking sweep. The apocalypse is spectacular. He takes up two big concerns of the world today - terrorism and the cri-sis of capitalism. One of the film’s cautionary sequences breathes of proletariat zeal - when the villain takes Gotham City’s stock exchange under seige. Bruce Wayne (Christian Bale) is paler, more beaten and almost resigned, but as Batman he is still transcendent. With Bale con-trolling the film’s throbbing, Michael Caine, Gary Oldman, Marion Co-tillard, Anne Hathaway, Liam Neeson and Morgan Freeman - a director of Nolan’s calibre is unbridled.

COCKTAILThe film talks about three people who are different from each other – Gautam is contemptible and wacky in nature, Veronica is wild, whereas Meera is a simpleton.Gautam is a flirt and has affair with Veronica. They are in no commit-ment relationship. Meera is a best friend of Veronica and they live to-gether. Both Veronica and Meera have different natures but they come close to each other and turn best pals. Meera, is quite desi at heart, does not like Gautam. But soon the unbelievable takes place and the two – Meera and Guatam, start loving each other. The movie has true urban and chic look which is the plus point of the film. The three characters’ laughter and their enjoying-life-king-size add sparkles to the movie’s worth. The biggest highlight of the film is the three characters’ characterization which has been done with absolute care.

SHIRIN FARHAD KI TOH NIKAL PADI

Director – Bela Leela SehgalCast – Boman Irani, Farah KhanAccording to a Persian story, Shirin and Far-had were two lovers who died without get-ting each other. However, Shirin Farhad Ki To Nikal Padi has a different meaning, as nikal padna in Hindi is a phrase which means to be very much in luck. The movie is a love story of two 40-plus Parsis. It’s an age appropriate film about two people who have missed the bus of the marriageable age.

Also, the sec-ond part will not focus on just one family, but the story will revolve around the whole town.

THE BOURNE LEGACY

Director - Tony GilroyCast - Jeremy Renner, Rachel WeiszThe guy from The Hurt Locker, leaves his du-ties as a bomb-diffuser, to join a highly secre-tive national-security program that requires him to give up whatever modicum of a per-sonal life he had left. After a few syringe shots and creepy speeches about the program, he thinks maybe the government doesn’t have his best interests at heart, so he decides to make it on his own. The government isn’t happy.

EK THA TIGER
