Grammy® Award and Stellar Award winning Gospel superstar, songwriter and producer Donald Lawrence kicked off his star-studded live recording in Chicago on Tuesday, June 18th to celebrate 20 successful years in the music industry. Lawrence’s live album record-ing for his much-anticipated 20th anniversary album brought together legendary artists, with outstanding performances from Lawrence and his backing ensemble The Co., CCM star Na-talie Grant, the legendary Karen Clark-Sheard, Kierra Sheard, Vanessa Bell Armstrong, Coko (of SWV), DTP Records’ soul singer Rudy Currence, Faith Evans, Lalah Hathaway, Kelly Price, Ted & Sheri, Bishop Hezekiah Walker, and a special dance performance from Lau-rieann Gibson.

Some of the nights highlights included “You Are My God” with Natalie Grant, who sang the song as if it were her last time. Faith Evans sang “Say A Prayer” from Lawrence’s 2004 album, “I Speak Life”, Kelly Price was epic on “When The Saints Go To Worship” and the incomparable Lalah Hathaway was simply incredible on “In The AM” and “Don’t Forget To Remember.” But the main highlight hands down, was “The Rest”, a new song that will be featured on the upcoming release. After about five reprises of the song throughout the night, fans were posting the lyrics to the song on social media days after the recording.

Among Lawrence’s friends and fans tak-ing in the unforgettable night of celebration were award-winning artists Michelle Williams, Richard Smallwood, Edwin Hawkins, Darwin Hobbs, Jonathan Nelson, Wes Morgan, Antho-ny Brown, Dennis Cole (Chicago GAG), Vicki Mack- Lataillade, Vashawn Mitchell, Stephen Hurd, Lance Williams, B. Chase Williams, Shawn Gibbs (The Firm Management), Hasan James (Root Magazine) Catherine Brewton (BMI), Wardell Malloy (BMI), Ricky Dillard, James Robinson, Brother Hahz, J.J. Hairston, Jonathan McReynolds, Neily Dickerson, Don Jackson (Stellar Awards), James Hall, Pastor Kimberly Ray, Mark Hubbard & Byron Cage,

Hosted at Dr. Bill Winston’s Living Word Chris-tian Center, Lawrence, The Co., and the star lineup of performers filled the house with the stirring sounds of celebration and reverence, on hits such as “The Blessing of Abraham,” “Mighty God,” “Seasons,” “Back II Eden,” Lawrence’s newest single “The Gift,” and more. Blessed with an amazing talent to grace the stage for over two decades, Lawrence’s long-awaited 20th anniversary album will be released in September.

One might define a “pep rally” as a meeting of students before an athletic con-test to stimulate group enthusiasm by rous-ing talks and cheers. However, the Kingdom Youth and Young Adult Church of the Love Fellowship Tabernacle Church of PA, added a spiritual kick to the collegiate past time with the Kingdom Pep Rally…”Rep your college…Rep CHRIST”.

The Kingdom Pep Rally is a gospel concert that features various college gospel choirs and Christian step teams, along with students from surrounding colleges and universities. The concert, in its third consecutive year, took it up a notch with exemplary talent, DJ, prizes and more.

The concert opened with a video that showcased highlights from past King-dom Pep Rally concerts. First up was the SpecialOps Drumline from Philadelphia, PA, and they kicked off the concert with a bang! SpecialOps has won countless com-petitions for their amazing drumming ability and technique and the audience was truly amazed by their performance.

Appearing for the second time at The Kingdom Pep Rally, The Alpha Nu Ome-ga Fraternity Inc. took the concert up a notch with their ministry of stepping. Their step routine consisted of scripture quotes, singing, and humorous skits. This was not a watered down version of stepping, Alpha Nu Omega is the real deal and the crowd’s response was proof.

Making their debut appearance at The Kingdom Pep Rally, Millersville Gospel Choir from Millersville, Pennsylvania, sang such hits as “Happy” by Tasha Cobbs and a throwback by JJ Hairston and Youthful Praise- “Awesome God”. In addition, the 2013 Kingdom Pep Rally King and Queen, Kiheem Bynum and Kara Freeman were students of Millersville and received a prize; pack which included Starbucks energy drinks, school supplies, and a commemo-rative DVD of the inaugural Kingdom Pep Rally concert.

There’s a cliché that says “Save the Best for Last”, and what better choir to close the concert than the Virginia State University Gospel Chorale (VSUGC). This electrifying and anointed group of young people has a ministry like none other! The choir opened up with Ricky Dillard’s “Search Me Lord” in a VSUGC style filled with dramatic
