A light entry just before Christmas week met a similar trade to last week with quality making the best prices. Top price per kilo was 189p for a South Devon heifer from Mr. I.C Lobb of St. Ewe purchased by Trevarthens of Roskrow.

Few store cattle but what was on offer sold to a solid trade. A nice run of strong named-sire Aberdeen Angus cattle from Messrs. N.C. & H.E. Pascoe of Constantine, Falmouth saw their leading bunch of 16-18 month old steers top at £800 with younger heifers to £780.

REARING CALVES

A fair entry of calves for the time of year met a cracking trade with plenty of demand around the ring. Leading the way at £325 was a four week old Limousin x bull from Messrs. M. & J. Rowe of Ashton with Messrs. S.M. & J. Blee of St. Martin achieving £305 for theirs, and four week old British Blues to £290 for Sixty Acres Ltd of Zelah. Leading the heifers was a strong three week old Charolais x from Messrs. J. & S. Trembath of Zennor at £268.

Richards Ltd of Perranwell Station. A pen of 47kg butchers’ type Suffolk x lambs from Messrs. J.A. & L.S.M. Tripconey of St. Keverne realised £93, also to J.V. Richards Ltd. Two pens of standard weights achieved 199p/kg, firstly a smart pen of Texel crosses from Mrs. E.M.J. Eggins of St. Breock and also well-finished Suffolk x lambs from Mr. W.D.
