O Come Let Us Adore Him
We are both Catholic and Christian. We are Christians because we are called to be followers or disciples of Jesus Christ. We actually bear his name in being called Christians. The word catholic (small c) emerged at a time when some were claiming that the teachings of Christ were intended only for individuals with an extraordinary capacity for the gnosis (knowledge) of God’s revelation. These gnostics were opposed vigorously by the bishops who understood themselves to be the successors of the apostles who were sent into the whole world to teach and baptize all people. We are catholic, then, because we are among the people who believe in the faith that was handed down to us from the apostles. This is why we profess the creed when we gather for Mass on the Lord’s Day. We believe that Jesus, the only Son of the Father, was conceived by the Holy Spirit and was born of the virgin Mary. We believe that our Savior was crucified, died, was buried, rose from the dead on the third day, and ascended into heaven from which he shall come again to judge the living and the dead. We believe in the church which is One, Holy, Catholic, and Apostolic; in our communion with the saints, in the forgiveness of sins, in the resurrection of the body, and in Life Everlasting! As Christians we believe that Jesus Christ is the head of his body, the church. As Catholics we believe that the bishop of Rome is the successor of Peter, who in communion with the bishops of every local church, share responsibility for the teaching, sanctification, and service of Christ’s flock on earth. With all Christians we revere the Revelation of God that is found uniquely in the Sacred Scripture. As Catholic Christians we also revere what has been handed on to us through Sacred Tradition. The latter especially includes the teachings about the Holy Eucharist and the other sacraments of new life. We believe that Jesus Christ is truly present in the assembled worshippers, in his Word proclaimed, in the ministry of the priest, and above all in the most holy sacrament of the altar. When we catholics gather to worship God in spirit and truth, we are doing so by fulfilling the command which Jesus gave to his disciples at the last supper: Take and Eat, Take and Drink in memory of me.

All Christians should pray regularly for all people who suffer from infirmities of every kind. But this list is intended for individuals who are acutely ill or facing surgery until they are back on the mend. Names will ordinarily be removed after 3 weeks, but if the illness persists you can call us and we will keep their names on for an additional three weeks.

JESUS CHRIST IS THE ALPHA AND THE OMEGA, THE BEGINNING AND THE END
For two years now we have been inviting parishioners to journey to a deeper level of faith through a powerful
spiritual experience known as ALPHA.
What’s so special about Alpha and why are we offering it again?
We recognize that on many levels we are not reaching younger generations of Catholics and are witnessing
a major disconnect with church life, especially in terms of Mass attendance. If you are a baby boomer or
older, you will know this first-hand by considering to what extent your children or grandchildren regularly
attend Mass. In point of fact, many people who have been baptized Catholic view themselves as
having no religious affiliation. And here’s a shocking survey result: In the U.S. for every one person
who is baptized Catholic, almost SEVEN Catholics leave the Church
How do we counter this trend ?
Alpha offers a two-pronged approach by appealing to both the churched and the un-churched. First,
for those who are reading this and regularly connect with church, Alpha can spark a deeper level of faith
and a richer personal relationship with Jesus Christ in terms of what it means to be His disciple.
Our faith can grow dormant and our church practice routine. Perhaps we sense a need for more and Alpha
might meet that need. But Alpha is also meant to reach the un-churched.
You who have found Alpha a rich opportunity to deepen faith can be the means of touching the hearts
of family members and friends and invite them to share in the Alpha experience.
By focusing on the fundamentals of the Christian faith in a welcoming, non-judgmental way, Alpha
can gently help a person take the next step in the faith journey. That step may not result in becoming a
zealous committed Catholic right away, but it can be a freely chosen step in the right direction.
By way of a shared meal, an engaging video, and group discussion there is an emphasis on the
relational aspect of faith rather than dogma in an atmosphere where any question can be asked and
every person is respected.
Are you still “on the fence” about Alpha?
Come the first night, take the leap of faith. Not only will you not crash land, will more likely find
yourself in a beautiful place of faith.
A VISION FOR US
We are called to become a
church in which all are welcome to become friends with each other, with Christ,
and with the least of His brothers and sisters;
becoming Holy as God is Holy.

PREPARING FOR BAPTISM CLASS
SUNDAY AUGUST 6TH
1 PM IN ROOM 4
We conduct this one session program for members of our parish who are planning to baptize a child for the very first time. First time godparents are also welcome, but participation is optional. There are other expectations of parents who are going to promise to raise their child in the faith of the Church. Following this class, parents must contact Father Jack to see if there may be any special circumstances in scheduling the actual baptism--at least 30 days before the date you are requesting.
All the busy activities of summer tend to add stress in marriages. Take time for a Marriage Encounter Weekend to relax and fortify your sacramental relationship at the Pastoral Center on September 15-17. Apply by August 18 at http://meoklahoma.org, and receive a 25% off the $100 application fee (promo code: EarlySept). For information, contact Rick & Bev Feller at (405) 323-9119, [email protected].
SAFE ENVIRONMENT
For many decades now, the Catholic Church has worked diligently to make our churches and schools a SAFE ENVIRONMENT for all children. Providing such a nurturing environment results in our requiring all who work directly with children and young people in our parish—especially catechists, chaperones, and nursery workers. We also HIGHLY ENCOURAGE ALL PARENTS WITH CHILDREN IN RE CLASSES AT ALL LEVELS TO BECOME SAFE ENVIRONMENT TRAINED.
Safe Environment Training will be offered:
Sunday, August 6th at 10:30 am in the McConnell Room
