RECREATION COMMISSION UPDATE

Greetings from the Dover Recreation Department and the Dover Recreation Commission!

We hope that you and your family had a very enjoyable summer and that you were able to participate in some of the wonderful activities we offer here in our town and at our beautiful park.

As we begin looking ahead to our fall/winter recreation programs we would like to highlight

some of the projects that have been accomplished and extend a sincere and heartfelt thank you to all of those who volunteered their time and services in assisting with these projects. Without the support and commitment from our town’s people these projects could not be as successful as they have been.

State of the art playground Implementation of a successful full day camp Beautiful children’s garden New baseball fields Structured parking lot for 300 vehicles Enhancements and revitalization of Stone Church

At this time we are very excited to be in the beginning stages of planning the construction of

a new pool, which would be located at Boyce Park. We are also working on planning a community day, a rain garden, equestrian events, and a community garden. Of course, we will continue to offer the quality programs that you have all come to enjoy.

We are very proud to be serving our community and thankful that we live in such a great

town. We all work together to achieve a shared vision of making our park beautiful and welcoming, and our recreation programs enriching and enjoyable for the children and adult residents of our town.

Great things are happening here in

Dover. We welcome all comments and suggestions for any new programs or activities that may be of interest to you and the Dover community at large.

Thank you.

News From the Town Hall

Master Plan Committee Update A Master Plan is a long range plan that guides development in a town through a

vision of what residents would like their town to be in the future. It is a comprehensive document that looks at all aspects of a community including community values, historic preservation, natural resources, population & economic base, housing, community facilities, transportation and existing land use.. Additional sections may be added if a community would like to address other issues more specifically. The Master Plan includes mapping, inventory, analysis, and recommended strategies for accomplishing the goals and objectives of the town. This is a plan created by and for the citizens of Dover.

The Town of Dover began their Master Planning process this year. This document will include some of the basic vision of the 1993 Town of Dover Master Plan revisited and restructured to reflect the results of the new community survey, interviews with town residents, inventories of town resources, and analysis of various needs and opportunities. The research we will do will be used as the basis upon which to formulate goals and objectives and to suggest possible strategies to help the town achieve its goals. Please complete the enclosed Preliminary Survey and mail it to the Town Hall as soon as possible. You may also complete an electronic version of the survey on our website at www.TownofDoverNY.us. A public forum will convene on September 22 at 7pm in the Dover High School auditorium for all those wishing to learn more about what the Master Plan Committee is working on. Thank you for your participation in shaping the future of Dover.

Stone Church Update Thanks to a 2004 grant from the New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation, improvements to the Dover Stone Church have been underway this summer. With the very generous donation of adjacent acreage in 2009 for permanent conservation and open space preservation, the Town utilized the donated value as required matching funds to complete the project.

The improvements include the installation of granite steps and railings on steeper sections of the meadow path, construction of a wood and stone foot bridge over the Stone Church Brook, and planting of red maple trees scheduled for late September.

A "Dedication of the Dover Stone Church Improvements" will be hosted by the Town of Dover, the Dutchess Land Conservancy and the Friends of Dover Stone Church on Saturday, October 9, 2010 from 11am to 3pm with a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 11:30am. The event is free and open to the public and will include tours, refreshments, children's crafts and music. Guests and visitors are asked to park in the Dover Elementary School parking lot and begin tours at the Tabor Wing House, 3128 Route 22, Dover Plains, NY. For more information or to help as a volunteer, please contact Katie Palmer-House at (845) 877-3410.
